"Alone we can do so little, but together we can do so much"- with this conviction we started our magazine in the year 2020. With full force, we were heading towards having a great year, but after a few months, we saw a huge wave of the virus shutting down everything around us. We found new ways to ignite a spark in the minds of the students and wanted to spread a little amount of positivity so that everyone could stay connected.

Founded in 2014, Samarthya is the only electronics club of Banasthali Vidyapith. It is a student-led society that strives to impart enthusiasm and passion for electronics and allied fields among the students of EC, EE, EI, and MCTR. The club organizes its annual fest, Pinnacle: a 3-day long electronics fest, and Utkranti, our annual model-making competition.

In the past two years, Samarthya has proved to be a place where students got to think something out of the box in between their online classes. We conducted various brainstorming sessions so that all year students could come together and know each other, from Orientation to Career hack we did various sessions to stay connected as a community. We didn't end our events here but we conducted competitions like Writech. In this era of Social Media, we reached out to everyone and launched our own ABC reels. Now contributing to this legacy, we have again come up with PHOTON 2.0 where we will share our pleasant and unforgettable moments during the events.

On April 8, 2021, the electronics society of Banasthali Vidyapith Samarthya successfully held its first-ever online orientation session. The event drew a large crowd of 170+ attendees , including students from various domains/streams as well as notable club alumni. The program's main goal was to familiarise students with various areas of engineering, campus life, and Team Samarthya's basic operations.

The Orientation began with a virtual tour of the campus, explaining the benefits of the university's Five-Fold Education, popularly known as 'Panchmukhi Shiksha.' The team members introduced the attendees about Banasthali Vidyapith's culture and way of life.

They provided a brief overview of the university's core technical branches, as well as an introduction to the courses and their current and future scopes.

Furthermore, the core team team members shed some light on Samarthya's history, explain explaining plaining how the only electronics club of Banasthali Vidyapith Vidyapith came to be. They described how the founders of Samarthya Samarthya worked tirelessly to establish this innovative society that allows students from core branches to broaden their horizons horizons by exploring their interests. They also described Samarthya's structural organization, as well as an introduction introduction to the team's various technical events, as well as the the importance of these events in improving an individual's individual's technical and soft skills.

Sneha Vardhan, a distinguished alumna, alumna, shared her lifelifechanging insights and experiences from from her time at Banasthali Vidyapith and, more importantly, importantly, as a member of Samarthya.

Despite the pandemic's dire situation, her generous and inspiring words encouraged the students to excel excel in their respective fields.

Creating a student-led society isn't easy, it requires hard work, dedication, and most importantly a team that has a goal to strive for and impart enthusiasm.

Every year, when our 4th years leave us with a feeling of emptiness, our 1st years join us with a blast of energy and new ideas. This transition is not at all easy, but it’s the circle of life.

To keep the legacy of Samarthya alive, the team recruits new minds annually. For the session 2021-22, the recruitment process was held in the month of April 2021, and the responses from the students were overwhelmingly positive.

The whole recruitment process was divided into 3 exciting rounds.

Round 11- Application form, consisting of challenging questions that tested the intellectual and problemsolving capability of the applicants, warming them up for the rounds to come.

Round 22- Skill-based testing, which was divided into 2 phases.

The first Situation-based phase, tested their Problem-solving, Collaborative decision making, Listening and Presentation skills, while working in teams. The second phase was more of an Interest based round, where the team individually interacted with each of the applicants, while getting to know more about what excites and really drives them.

Although each and every applicant displayed promising potential and put up a tough competition, the bestest of the best made it to the next round.

Round 33- Personal Interview, the round for which everyone was looking forward to. Our finalists gave their everything, leaving the whole team impressed. Each applicant was better than the last, and everyone brought something different to the table. The applicants, as well as the entire team, were enthralled by this round.

Once again, the best team was formed. The whole process was an enriching and learning experience, not only for the applicants but also for the team members. It was a full-on display of the zeal and gusto the students carried, which was not dampened by the pandemic. Their excitement to join Samarthya, brought up the morale to a whole new level, driving the team to work harder for the students of Banasthali Vidyapith.

In the month of August 2021, Team Samarthya organized an interactive event called Career Hack, Hack, which aimed at clearing up all the career-related doubts that tend to fog up the bright minds of the students.

Due to the pandemic, students have experienced quite a lot of changes, the transition from offline to online has made students wonder what lies ahead, as a result, there is a sense of distress and uncertainty that is keeping students away from reaching their full potential.

So, we invited our esteemed guests and respected Alumni of Banasthali Vidyapith, from the four main domains, to guide the students by answering some of the most perplexing questions.

What strategy can be recommended to non-CS branch students, as they start their coding journey?

As one decides to go for placements in the IT sector, time management becomes an essential tool, a student must maintain and simultaneously work on getting a good CGPA and develop their coding skills.

Students should start by devoting small hours to coding at the beginning and then gradually increase the duration for grasping the concepts efficiently.

Maintaining a social media presence could be very beneficial. CORE INDUSTRY

The selection process for internships and placement are largely the same. Some companies have a cut-off CGPA, so it will be beneficial for the student to maintain a decent CGPA of 7.5 or above. Next is the written round which has competitive, comprehensive, quantitative and technical questions. The selection criteria differ from company to company. A Group Discussion round is held before the personal interviews, to test the communication skills of the student.

Exploring new areas and developing hobbies represents a student’s learning agility. Confidence and communication skills are of prime significance as it shows how well one can portray their ideas and thoughts in a precise way.

Can a student belonging to any of the four technical branches do a softwarebased project?

There are no constraints, one can make a software-based project even if they belong to ECE, EEE, EIE, or MT. While selecting the project topic one should be specific about their interests. During the 3rd year project, the student will have a mentor, who is there to guide them. Exploring different software is the best approach to deal with the projects.

A student can start preparing for the GATE exam when they have finally decided to pursue their Master’s in the core field or are interested in research work. Optimum time should be earliest by the second year and latest by the starting of the third year, as devoting time for the preparation and having a headstart is a must for qualifying GATE.

SCI-FI : IS IT THE ODE TO THE FUTURE?

Urvashi ECE | 2nd year “Individual science fiction stories may seem as trivial as ever to the blinder critics and philosophers of today, but the core of science fiction -- its essence --has become crucial to our salvation if we are to be saved at all.”

When I gaze at the stars, sitting a thousand galaxies far away feel oddly relaxed. My presence in this universe is akin to a mere blip and the problems with me are even more so of a minuscule speck. I can assume that most of us at one point in time must have been fascinated by the workings of the vast space spread across thousands of light-years ahead of us. As a child, I always chastised the sun and moon for following me wherever I go. Coming to the angsty rebelling teenage phase, and pitching up a tent in an alien’s house was always at the forefront of my mind whenever things were(and still) not going my way. Jaw-dropping astounding life of mutants and crop circles outside the monotonous daily chores and the dreary cycle of eating, sleep, study and repeat.

Sure then, I was consuming it at an alarming rate because I didn’t want to live in my reality but it has had an impact on my current life. When I see a star move from the corner of my eye, my first instinct is, is it a ufo?

Jokes aside it is always an overwhelming question to ask ourselves that are these things just an otherworldly phenomenon or is there more to what the situation holds?

Conventionally, Science fiction is a way of letting loose and indulging in a fantasy escape world. As Arthur Clarke (2001: A Space Odyssey) once said, "There's no real objection to escapism, in the right places... We all want to escape occasionally.

Our views on scientific progress indeed have a strong likelihood of getting transformed into a full-fledged creation in the future. I once read a comic strip of the late 20th century where the artist demonstrated various scenarios to be implemented with the advent of the 21st century. It included the students in a classroom wearing a cap connected to a machine to learn everything in an instant without needing books. We’ve not reached that stage but we’ve managed to make visors that do take us on a virtual reality tour. The sci-fi movie contagion (2011) gives us a glimpse of what living in a pandemic could be like so many years before the deadly coronavirus even decided to break havoc on society. We can see that the sci-fi genre opens the door of future possibilities by triggering the human mind to think out of the box.

Let’s have a look at the cases of hoax news as a result of the idealization of the concept of aliens. When these things are considered a plausible case in the bizarreness of the Bermuda triangle. when any shiny thing in the universe is considered a ufo without looking for a more clear scientific explanation. We have to sketch a clear line between reality and fantasy.

You might have or might not have had heard about it. Well to easily put it, "Cloud robotics is a field of robotics that attempts to invoke cloud technologies such as cloud computing, cloud storage, and other Internet technologies centered on the benefits of converged infrastructure and Shared services for robotics.” Yeah, so that wasn’t an easy way to put it hehe!!

So here it goes, ever pondered over the fact that how you delete some images from your phone after posting them on Instagram and you can still easily view them anytime on the internet? Well, that’s the CLOUD for ya!

Mainly, cloud computing provides on-demand over the internet. So to have a general idea, just understand that it works to make sure you can access all your important data anytime and anywhere.

So now..

WHAT IS CLOUD ROBOTICS? ROBOTICS? The simplest way to answer this would be to imagine that what if you had a house robot at your home, which right now is not operative because you are not at home but it still is connected to your wi-fi.

Now, you suddenly remember that you forgot to turn off the cooler. But no worries because you can just give a single command through your phone app to your robot who connected to it to just switch off the cooler!

There is a huge need for cloud robots these days to enhance the ways of connecting with machines Over a large distance.

Limitations of cloud robotics Though robots can benefit from various advantages of cloud computing, the cloud is not the solution to all of robotics. ∞ Controlling a robot’s motion which relies heavily on sensors and feedback of controller may not benefit much from the cloud. ∞ Tasks that involve real-time execution require on-board processing. ∞ Cloud-based applications can get slow or unavailable due to high-latency responses or network hitch.

If a robot relies too much on on the cloud, a fault in the network could leave it “brainless.”

But but but….. do not let the limitations discourage you from the endless possibilities and applications of cloud robotics. I mean the term was coined in 2010 so it has just been a decade.

Rescuing the world from the fangs of the global pandemic, constantly being the source of knowledge wider than the deadly disaster we face today, and a place to lighten the world a little bit. That's the power of online social platforms.

Be it Instagram, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Twitter, or any other, you can always rely on them to make yourselves be heard, and your message promoted.

In light of its influence, Team Samarthya has actively been participating in the chain of social promotion via its Instagram, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn LinkedIn accounts, along with the ever-interactive WhatsApp groups, trying to promote what little knowledge there is to offer.

The major events conducted online, such as Career Hack and the team's Orientation session, were streamed live on YouTube attracting a viewership of about 750+ audience.

Maintaining the team's image of spreading knowledge with a fun and interactive touch, a series called ABC Reels was initiated on Instagram, sharing approximately 1 minute long reels on technologies starting from A-Z in alphabetical order. This increased the team's reach by 42% averaging to 2000+ accounts.

The club has also been active on LinkedIn connecting with the students of Banasthali University and using it as a means of communication and official announcements.

Faculty in Research Dr. Pawan Kumar Pathak Assistant Professor, School of Automation (Electrical Engineering), Banasthali Vidyapith His research interests include renewable energy sources, load frequency control, intelligent control, optimization techniques and grid/micro-grid.

Renewable energy is obtained from natural resources that refill in less than a human life without diminishing the planet's resources. They don't have much of a negative impact on the climate or the ecosystem. Understanding the need of the hour, Scientists and engineers are working day and night to devise ways that will provide us and coming generations with much cleaner and sustainable energy sources.

A state-of-the-art review on shading mitigation techniques in solar photovoltaic via metaheuristic approach (Jan (Jan 2022)

This study discusses solar photovoltaic (SPV) power generation and its application as both grid-tied and stand-alone systems. A modified incremental conductance (MIC), termed as error based incremental conductance MPPT, has been proposed.

The paper also includes an intelligent supervisory optimal-fuzzyproportional-integral-derivative (O-FPID) controller for load frequency control (LFC).

This paper includes a comprehensive study on solar photovoltaic-based clean energy production using maximum power point tracking schemes. A meta-heuristic approach and artificial neural network have been used for a comprehensive review of these schemes in solar photovoltaic systems.

Dr. Mohit Jain Assistant Professor, School of Automation , Banasthali Vidyapith Optimization is the problem of finding a set of inputs to an objective function that results in a maximum or minimum function evaluation.

Any complicated system's best possible solution can be found using optimizing algorithms. They are already being used in various fields of science such as operation research, control theory, economics, bioscience, and many other engineering design problems.

Many types of research are being conducted in this field to devise better and more accurate optimizing algorithms which will help us to control and optimize our systems more accurately. One such research paper is mentioned here:

A novel nature-inspired algorithm for optimization: Squirrel search algorithm algorithm The paper utilizes the ability of southern flying squirrels who are capable of locomoting over longer distances via the Gliding mechanism.
