A Message from the Corps Officers Dear Partners in Christian Ministry, As we look back at our arrival in Griffin in June of 2020, we couldn’t have been prouder to have rolled our sleeves up, and work with such a strong and loving community. We are so honored to have been able to meet the needs of this community with your help. It’s because of dedicated volunteers like you that we’re able to further the mission of The Salvation Army and continue doing the most good. Through your service and support for The Salvation Army, we have been able to be a stable source of comfort and help for our community. We are committed to providing a safe place for children in our community through virtual learning in our Community Center, offering financial assistance to individuals who have experienced financial burdens, offering a shelter for the homeless, and providing love and ministry to individuals in need. Without dedicated volunteers like you who continue to trust The Salvation Army to meet the necessities of the community, our programs could not survive. We value you as a genuine friend and partner and are humbled by your trust and support of our programs. You are both an encouragement and inspiration to us, as we continue to work together in serving God and our community. We look forward to continue working with you, and we pray that God continues to bless you abundantly! Blessings,

Lieutenant Sebastian Arroqui

Lieutenant Nathalie Arroqui

A Message from the Advisory Board Chair Greetings to all, This past year has definitely been challenging and has tested us in many ways. We all know God is in control, and He told us these things would come. The COVID virus and racial division are testing us all. I pray for all the families that have been affected. Griffin is blessed to have The Salvation Army as a part of this community. The Salvation Army is blessed to have such a giving and caring community in Griffin. We have been blessed to have such Godly leaders to reach out to the unchurched and churched. Lieutenants Tim and Paula Blevins will be missed, but Lieutenants Sebastian and Nathalie have filled in quickly, and great things are happening. The Salvation Army of Griffin is blessed to have such a strong Advisory Board with one goal in mind: love God and love others. The Salvation Army of Griffin Advisory Board donates time, money and talents to make this community strong. Pray for our nation and its leaders. Pray that we will seek God’s guidance and ask Him to show us the ways we can honor and please Him. Pray for salvation to the lost, food for the hungry and shelter for the homeless. Pray and then ask God for His direction in our walk as to how we can impact others. Search the scriptures and allow God to show us the way according to His purpose. May God shower you with His mercies and grace,

James Jenkins

Mission Statement The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the Universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His Name without discrimination.

he Salvation Army’s year-round programs are not just about a hand out or an easy fix for those in need; they provide an opportunity for individuals to turn their lives around in the right direction. Our goal is not just to treat the symptoms of poverty but to work diligently to heal the epidemic once and for all. All programs center around our mission to “preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in His name without discrimination.”

The House of Hope

The House of Hope is designed to provide an emergency shelter to men, women, and families in need; whether chronically homeless or during a time of transitional crisis. Underlying this program is the motivation to identify the causes of homelessness and to work to combat homelessness at its source. Staff and caseworkers cooperate with clients to help them transition into a more permanent housing situation.

Family Store

The Salvation Army Family Store relies on donations of clothing, furniture, household, and other items from the community and sells them to the public at affordable prices or distributes them as needed to those of limited income. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the store are used to financially support our social services and spiritual community programs.

Community Center for Boys and Girls

In our community, many boys and girls are left to find their own recreation and companionship. Increasingly, children are at home with no adult care or supervision. Young people need to know someone cares about them. Our programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging, and influence.

Emergency Assistance

The Salvation Army provides emergency assistance to help families and individuals survive crisis situations with dignity. Motivated by the love of God, we are committed to serve the whole person—spiritual, emotional, social, and physical—with integrity, respect, and without discrimination. We empower those in need to change.

ust before Thanksgiving, The Salvation Army of Griffin Officer Lieutenant Nathalie Arroqui received a phone call from JoyFM, a local radio station, alerting her that The Salvation Army of Griffin had been chosen as the recipient of its “T-shirts for Turkey” fundraiser. This annual event unites local businesses, media, and nonprofits to raise money for families in need by selling T-shirts. The funds raised are then used to purchase turkeys for hungry families. Representatives from JoyFM, Franklin Financial Bank, Chick-fil-A, and The Salvation Army of Griffin gathered in a Chick-fil-A parking lot to distribute t-shirts and collect donations. At the end of the fundraiser, about 100 turkeys had been purchased with the money raised. With 100 turkeys in their possession, Lieutenant Nathalie held a Thanksgiving turkey drive. “Our goal was to provide as close to a ‘Thanksgiving meal’ as possible for families in need,” said Lieutenant Nathalie. “With the help of our community, we felt like we could do this.” Multiple pastors and local business owners stepped forward and graciously donated an additional 100 turkeys; hundreds of food boxes containing vegetables, mashed potatoes, dessert mixes, and snacks; and food vouchers to The Salvation Army. Lieutenant Nathalie put up a few signs around The Salvation Army of Griffin Corps building that said, “Free turkeys and food boxes from 12-2 pm.” The news spread quickly, and when the clock hit noon, hundreds of families – including homeless, elderly women, disabled veterans, and unemployed parents – sat in their cars waiting to receive a Thanksgiving meal. Many expressed how grateful they were to receive the meal. The signs put up around The Salvation Army building attracted a large crowd, and every turkey, food box, and food voucher in inventory was placed in the hands of a hungry person. “Through all the events that transpired, we were able to provide 212 families in our community with Thanksgiving assistance,” said Lieutenant Nathalie. “It was such a touching experience to witness our community coming together and being there for one another.”

HOPE AND HELP IN TIMES OF NEED There are a lot of reasons people need help. Sometimes, life doesn’t turn out the way they planned. Other times, they experience unexpected circumstances in life, such as job loss or debt following a medical emergency, or an unexpected pandemic. Whatever the reason – whatever the need – for over 100 years, the red shield of The Salvation Army has been a symbol of hope and help to the people of Griffin.

Sharing God's love with people is not just part of The Salvation Army’s Sunday worship. As a faith-based organization, The Salvation Army ensures that every program and service – from food deliveries to emergency shelter – offers the opportunity for spiritual growth as well. Throughout Georgia, every county has a Salvation Army representative ready to assist with a helping hand and a prayerful heart.

At The Salvation Army, we place a high priority on young people. That's why we emphasize programs for children and teens. From young children to teenagers, there are programs for every age group. From after-school tutoring to summer camp, there is a place for kids to get involved, grow and thrive.

The Salvation Army strives to bring hope and help to people in the midst of difficult situations. During the COVID-19 pandemic, The Salvation Army Georgia Emergency Disaster Services helped create an Infectious Disease Shelter Emergency plan for 11 Georgia Salvation Army shelters, delivered meals to COVID-19 testing site workers, distributed free Bordon Milk at 27 different locations for six months, and distributed 80,000 food boxes.

Helping people in their time of need has always been at the heart of The Salvation Army. That help may come in many forms – a safe shelter for the night, utility assistance, help with food insecurity, or long-term emergency disaster assistance, for example. Or it may simply come in the provision of a cup (or bottle) of cool water in the name of Jesus on a hot, crowded day.

Every child deserves to expereince the joy of Christmas morning. The Salvation Army Angel Tree program helps provide Christmas gifts for thousands of children in Georgia each year. The Angel Tree program provides gifts of new clothing and toys to families who otherwise might not have anything to give their children for Christmas.

How can you help financially? Planned Giving: Many people who have normally limited their giving to cash find that they can provide more support by making gifts of appreciated assets or by leaving a charitable bequest in their will. The Salvation Army has trained professionals on call to work with you and/or your financial planner/attorney to see if this kind of giving is appropriate for you.

Appreciated Assets You Can Donate: Do you have an appreciated asset you have owned for more than one year? You can give it to The Salvation Army, deduct the fair market value as a charitable gift, and bypass all capital gain taxes. Or you can institute a life-income agreement that will provide annual income to you and your family, plus provide substantial tax benefits.

CARS Program: Charitable Adults Rides and Services (CARS), a 501(c)(3) organization, gives donors a clear and direct route for vehicle donation. Call 888-SVA-GIVE or 888-782-4483 seven days a week to make your donation of a car, truck, motorcycle, or boat that will in turn, from its sale, help to feed, clothe, comfort, and care for those in need. CARS will tow your vehicle at no cost to you, and you will receive a tax-deductible receipt. Call our office for more information about any of these programs: 770-412-6561
