ALUMNI UPDATES Kirsten Albright ('14), RN, BSN is an ER nurse and part of the Infection Control team in the ER responsible for working with COVID patients at the University of Alabama Birmingham. Kirsten (pictured second from right) recently won the Patient First Award by saving the life of an 85 year old woman when the doctor assumed her confused mental status was due to “Sundowners”. Kirsten wanted to be sure the doctor did not miss other crucial signs, such as blood sugar, since the patient was diabetic. She tested the patient’s blood sugar and discovered the patients levels had dropped to deadly levels and began administering insulin. The doctor praised her and recommended Kirsten for the Patient First Award.
