Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church, Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness' (2 Corinthians 9:10).
It takes a level of faith to realize the benefits that exist in planting a garden. Considering the word harvest as a noun, it refers to the process or period of gathering crops. However, biblically speaking, harvest holds a great significance in the Christian faith. Harvest is used as a symbol for various aspects of life and faith. In reading our text, 2 Corinthians 9:10, it is evident that there were some concerns among the Corinthians where Paul had to intervene by reassuring them that there is an indisputable provider who is God himself.
According to Luke 6:38 there is an imperative, 'a Command', from Jesus to all of us. Jesus says 'Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you'. To reap a harvest, we ought to sow, and equally, if we want to reap a larger harvest, we ought to cultivate a larger portion of the land which means that our harvest will surely depend on how much we invest in the sowing. Paul also echoes the same sentiment expressed by Jesus in Luke 6:38 as mentioned earlier.
The Christians at Corinth were encouraged to exercise their faith and be generous while contributing to the collection of gifts for the Christians in Jerusalem. Maybe, they were contemplating whether or not they had enough to share with others. They were reminded, by Paul, that God, the great provider, who provides seeds to the sowers, not only provides the seed for them but also makes sure there was an increase in their storehouse.
Giving is just like the farmer who sows and expects to reap a harvest in due time. For those of us who understand the grace of God, giving generously should be a way of life. God sees our giving as a clear indication of our love for Him, proving our obedience to Him and showing evidence of our faith and trust in His promises (2 Corinthians 9: 6). In Act 20:35 we read '… It is more blessed to give than to receive'. Just like the sower, giving allows us to store up treasures in heaven as stated in Matthew 6:20 'But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal'. Profoundly, there is a definite blessing that awaits the giver.
Furthermore, 2 Corinthians 9:6 emphasizes 'Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously'. Therefore, we all can agree that the blessings which comes with giving far surpasses any gifts being received. Indeed, the generous giver reaps a bountiful harvest. At the time of preparation, a farmer will go through various stages and encounter many difficulties and suffering. However, at the time of harvest, there is joy and satisfaction, that speaks to the benefits one can enjoy as it relates to sowing and reaping. The farmer in expressing his faith is confident that there will be a greater enjoyment when the reaping time arrives.
I would like to use Hosea 10:12 as my closing words to all of us. 'Sow righteousness for yourselves, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the LORD until he comes and showers his righteousness on you'.
May God richly bless you, as you sow and reap your harvest by faith.

Territorial Leaders, Commissioners Devon and Verona Haughton, our special guests, Commissioners Mark & Sharon Tillsley, distinguished members of the Territorial Governance Council, Territorial Management Board, Training Principal Major Vilece Thomas, Training College Staff, Divisional and District Leaders, Officers, Champions of the Mission, Defenders of Justice, a pleasant good morning to you all! I am so excited to stand before you to share the topic: 'What does the flag mean to me?'
The Salvation Army flag carries profound spiritual significance with its three colours, each with a specific meaning. They play a significant role in the Christian faith. The three colours are blue, red, and yellow.
Blue represents the purity of God, encouraging me to live a life that reflects God’s purity and righteousness.
Red represents the blood of Jesus Christ shed on the cross to save humanity, signifying the sacrifices He made for my salvation. With His great love for me, I am encouraged to be humble, to follow, and serve Him throughout my life.
Today, the flag, continually reminds me that I am washed in the blood of Jesus Christ, who died for me. Doctrine #6 states: 'We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, by His suffering and death, made atonement for the whole world so that whoever will may be saved.' In summary, the flag symbolizes the holiness of God, the sacrificial love of Jesus, and the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit. I will continue to value The Salvation Army flag because of the gospel truth it represents. Songbook #1023 states: 'There is only one flag to me, and I am going to march beneath the yellow, red, and blue. It's too precious a principle to be true; it speaks of power, pardon, peace, and purity. There's only one flag for me!'
To my fellow new Lieutenants, Defenders of Justice,
Yellow represents the fire of God's Holy Spirit, symbolizing His presence and guidance in my life. It inspires me to be a light wherever I go, spreading love, hope, and truth. Additionally, it represents the transformative power of the Holy Spirit, illuminating my faith and empowering me to serve others with passion and conviction.
Let me encourage you, as I am encouraged myself with the words of Song NSB 988: 'We'll never let the old flag fall because we love it the best of all. We’ve taken the field for God, and we’re in this war to fight! Fight! Fight! We’ll march to victory while we sing the praises of our Lord and King. To the end of the world, our flag unfurled, we’ll never let the flag fall. Amen!'
May God bless you all!
On July 1, 2024, Hurricane Beryl caused extensive damage across various islands.
Carriacou, a sister island of Grenada, suffered significant destruction with the collapse of the communication tower at Mount Royal, leaving the area without service. The eye of the storm directly hit Carriacou, resulting in approximately 95% of the buildings losing their roofs. Harvey Vale Cabwit area roads are impassable, and there is no electricity due to downed power lines.
Two people have been confirmed dead.
In St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Union Island experienced severe damage, with 90% of the
houses affected. The island of St. Vincent also faced destruction, including downed power lines, fallen trees, and damaged buildings.
Hurricane Beryl later upgraded to Category 5 and passed the south of Jamaica on July 3, causing extensive damage to many homes and temporarily leaving 65% of the island without power and water supply. The Salvation Army preschool lost its roof and reported damages to the classroom and pieces of furniture.
Throughout these events, The Salvation Army has been active in distributing basic food supplies and providing assistance where possible.
The Divisional Headquarters has revived the Men's Ministry in the Division. The first meeting was held on Wednesday, April 24, 2024. The Divisional Commander, Major Robert Pyle, initiated the meeting by warmly welcoming all the men and expressing gratitude for their presence.
The meeting started with the song 'I've Felt a New and Loving Touch', followed by an Opening Prayer led by Envoy Peter Humphrey. After the prayer, Major Pyle presented a devotion based on 2 Samuel 23:8-12 titled 'Mighty Men of Valor'. The Major spoke about Shammah, the third courageous inner-circle warrior of David, reminding the men present that God seeks men who will stand up for righteousness, persevere in difficult times, and recognize their adversaries. He emphasized that standing firm would lead to victory by God.
Following the devotion, everyone introduced themselves, and the fun activities began with the men participating in a 'Pea Race'. The men were given a straw and a single pea and instructed to blow the pea across the table in a race, resulting in laughter among all participants. This was followed by another game called 'Chain Reaction', which required more mental effort as the men had to use
everyday items to create a chain in the shortest time possible.
In the closing segment, the men were divided into groups to play draughts, card games, dominoes, and chess. Later, the men enjoyed snacks, and the meeting concluded with announcements followed by the chorus – 'The Lord watch between me and thee'. The inaugural men’s fellowship ended with a positive energy, and all participants were pleased with the fellowship.
The total attendance was 12. ‘To God be the glory.’
