HELPING PEOPLE LEARN TO LAUGH AGAIN
‘I often work with volunteers who are in very difficult situations: people with long term illness, family breakdown, mental illness and bereavement. Seeing these volunteers begin to regain a sense of purpose, feel valued and start to laugh again is an incredible privilege. It’s amazing to see a lady who has spent years in an abusive, lonely marriage cry with laughter amongst friends.’

friends. Salisbury foodbank made our Christmas, it was the best we’ve ever had. Thanks to our food hamper we could sit down and eat together as a family for the first time in weeks. We’d been telling the children we’d eat when they’d gone to bed, but the reality was we were going without. The foodbank even gave us small presents for the girls, it meant such a lot and helped us to get back on our feet.’
‘We had to choose between paying for food, heating or rent’ says Mandi. ‘It’s so hard to tell your two young children that they can’t have any Christmas presents or a dinner like their
Every year Trussell Trust foodbanks across the UK transform Christmas by giving hampers filled with festive treats to people in crisis together with a standard foodbox.
In November the Welsh Assembly debated the growing need for foodbanks in the country and praised their work. They’re now considering helping foodbanks to expand across Wales.

POLICE TAKE DESPERATE SHOPLIFTER TO FOODBANK Adam had not eaten for four days when he resorted to stealing bread and eggs. After experiencing 23 days benefit delay Adam had tried begging for food and was desperate. Arrested by plain clothes officers, he was distraught at having got into trouble with the authorities. Fortunately, the police officers were so moved by his plight that they took him to Islington Foodbank. Adam cried with gratitude when he saw the bags of food and the police were so impressed that they asked to become foodbank voucher holders.
