Aswemovetowardtheholidayseason,Iwanttothankeveryonefortheircontinuedhardworkand dedicationtoourstudents.YourpassionfortheirgrowthiswhywecontinueleadinginEducational Excellence. Welcomeback,andtothe2022-2023schoolyear! Ithasbeenawonderfulexperiencetoseeourstudents,staff,classrooms,and communitiesmovingforwardintheaftermathofwhathasbeen,nodoubt,two ofthemostchallengingyearsthroughoutourcareers.Icannotadequately expressmyappreciationforandgratitudetoeachandeveryoneofyouforthe greatworkyouhavedoneinourschoolsandhereattheTCESC. 1

Since its inception in 1964, the Ohio Teacher of the Year program annually identifies exceptional teachers statewide, celebrating their effective work in and outside the classroom. The program ' s mission is to provide opportunities for professional learning to exemplary teachers as leaders and advocates for public education.

Co ElementarySchool3rdgradeteacher MelissaKmetzonbeingnamedthe 2023OhioTeacheroftheYear!The announcementwasmadeon September27duringaspecial surpriseassemblyatLakeview Elementary.Sheisinher17thyearof teachingEnglishLanguageArtsand saysshestrivestosparkan enthusiasmforlearningwithinher students,notingthatsomeofthe mostimportantlessonslearnedin herclassroomgobeyond academics.Eachyearsheconnects herclassroomlessonswiththe communitybyencouragingstudents todevelopvariousserviceprojects. “It’sanhonorjusttobenominated, butbeingtheactualTeacherofthe Yearisjustthebestsurpriseever.” “It’saboutsomuchmorethantestingand curriculum,”Kmetzsays.“Weneedto makesurethatourenvironmentandthe thingsthatwe’redoingareequitableand thatourcurriculumisdiverse,andthatno oneslipsthroughthecracks,that everyonefeelsvaluedandappreciated.”

ThroughExtendedLearningGrantFunds,theTCESC partnered withAIMtoprovideallK 3teachers,administrators,and varioussupportstaffwiththemandatory18-hourtraining. September27wasthefirstofthreetrainingsessionsthisfall. AIMfacilitatorsholdthecredentialsneededtotrainour TrumbullCountyteachers;theyalsoprovidecoursesthat meettheInternationalDyslexiaAssociationAccreditationand AccreditationPlusstatus.
into Literacy The Trumbull County Educational Service Center and the AIM Institute for Learning & Research hosted over 230 educators in September for the rollout of the state-required literacy professional development as stated in HB 436: Ohio’s Dyslexia Support Laws. 5

GovernorJonHusted,andC&ISupervisorJamesRook OnFriday,September16th,OhioLt.GovernorJonHustedvisitedtheTCESC’s EducationExtensioninLordstownasapartofhisNextGenerationJobTour. TheLt.GovernorparticipatedinaroundtablediscussionwithTrumbullCounty publicschooladministrators,workforceleaders,andstudentsattendingthe EducationExtensionprogram.Thepaneltalkedaboutthefutureoftheworkforce, theneedwecurrentlyhaveformoreskilledlaborers,andtheopportunitiesthese studentsattendingtheEducationExtensionhavebeforethem. “Apre-apprenticeshipprogrampreparesyouformanycareersrightoutofhigh school,butyoualsohaveagoodacademicbackground,andthat'swhatwewant ourstudentstohave,”saidLt.GovernorHusted. “Thiseconomywillcontinueto change,andwewantthesestudentstohaveagoodfoundationtolaunchintotheir careersandhaveaprosperousfuture.” WiththesupportofInnovativeWorkforceIncentiveProgram(IWIP)grantfunding madepossiblebytheGovernor’sOfficeofWorkforceTransformationandtheOhio DepartmentofEducation,theTCESCbeganofferinganOhioStateApprenticeship Council(OSAC)recognizedpre-apprenticeshipprogramearlierthisfall. 7
