The Warren City School District recognizes students across all five of our schools for their outstanding achievements and how they each have demonstrated the character traits outlined in the Warren Acronym: Work Ethic Accountability Responsibility Respect Effective Behavior No Excuses Along with being highlighted in our STUDENTS OF THE MONTH/OUTSTANDING STUDENTS publication, each is presented with a certificate of achievement, and a yard sign is placed at the student's residence.

WARREN G. HARDING HIGH SCHOOL Elijah Seifullah David Passek Tyra Moore

SENIOR

Elijah Seifullah Elijah exemplifies ALL attributes of the WARREN acronym.

Elijah has developed a 4.267 GPA over the course of his high school years and coursework.

Elijah holds a managerial position at his current job, and also finds time to volunteer at two churches in Cortland and Mecca. Elijah is involved in several school extracurricular programs such as Robotics and National Junior Honor Society.

In his free time, Elijah enjoys producing music.

ELIJAH HOPES TO RETURN TO WARREN AFTER COLLEGE TO USE HIS SKILLS TO HELP REDEVELOP THE CITY.

SOPHOMORE

David Passek David was nominated for Student of the Month due to his academic dedication, self-determination and self-advocacy.

David participates on the Track and Cross Country teams.

His work ethic enabled David to drop his 3.1 mile time by nearly 8 minutes from his first year to his second year in Cross Country.

FAVORITE SUBJECT: HISTORY Where his teacher has a knack for making it interesting and fun.

FRESHMAN

Tyra Moore Tyra represents the WGH freshman class as a cheerleader. Tyra has perfect attendance so far this year, and she is currently performing well academically in her freshman honors and AP courses.

Tyra appreciates the curricular and extra-curricular programs and opportunities available at Warren G. Harding High School. In addition to cheerleading and an honors/Advanced Placement schedule, Tyra also: Plays clarinet in the school concert and marching bands.

She enjoys the volunteer and leadership opportunities available through band and cheerleading and expressed that doing extra now will benefit her when she applies to colleges, seeks scholarships, and will give her an edge when pursuing a job.

JEFFERSON PK-8 SCHOOL Ava Baskins Charles Weaver Natailia Adams

GRADE 8

Ava Baskins According to Jefferson PK-8 middle school science teacher Ms. Gabrick, Ava is a model student and a natural leader amongst her peers. On a daily basis, Ava models the WARREN acronym with fidelity.

She is always prepared for class and is eager to learn.

She puts 100% effort into all of her assignments.

She is friendly to all she meets and has a positive attitude towards life.

Ava, who is active in the choir program, hopes that these attributes lead to earning a spot on the year-end high honor roll as she seeks to maintain an A average throughout the school year.

Ava has enjoyed her time at Jefferson where she recognizes Mr. Gabrick as her favorite teacher and School Counselor Ms. Vlahos-Hall as an admired adult in the school community for always being there to talk with her when she needs it.

Her favorite subject is science and aspires to work in the medical field and possibly become a doctor.

GRADE 3

Charles Weaver “Since the first day of school, Charlie has shown great leadership qualities by following the WARREN acronym. He is always willing to help someone who is having a difficult time in class. He is well liked by all his classmates. That is why he has been chosen student of the month.” -Ms. Ulrich Charles was excited to be one of our Students of the Month for October.

When he is not being a leader or lending a helping hand, Charles can be found reading from the Hello Neighbor collection, playing video games, or enjoying favorite food – cake.

GRADE 2

Natailia Adams Ms. Laprocina nominated Natailia for Student of the Month for her responsible decision making and work ethic.

Natailia wanted to share that Ms. Laprocina is her favorite teacher and that she really enjoys reading and having books read to her.

Natailia’s favorite food is spaghetti and she really likes to play with Barbie dolls when she is not in school.

GRADE 6

José Diaz “Jose is respectful, inclusive to all of his math team, and strives for excellence in the classroom.”

When I think about what he likes about McGuffey, José mentioned all of his teachers, the people, and the positive incentives in the middle school.

His favorite subject is math and favorite food is rice.

José’s goals for this year include earning straight As on each of his report cards.

GRADE 4

Amazin Davis “Amazin was selected because she is always demonstrating respect for her teachers and her peers. She always has a smile on her face and seems genuinely happy to be in school. She's a great role model of what a positive attitude looks like!!!” -- McGuffey 3-5 Principal Leah Godoy Amazin’s time at McGuffey began in the pre-kindergarten program. Ms. Davis has been her favorite teacher thus far because they had a good bond, she was fun to be around, and of course because they have the same last name.

Her favorite subject is math as she has always been good at it, uses it on a daily basis, and “really loves money”. In fact Amazin earned money this summer through her lemonade stand business. She is combining her hobby of doing crafts with her math skills to start another business making and selling bracelets, anklets, and earrings.

GRADE 1

MARLEY MOREHOUSE “Marley is a hard worker who is always doing her best, both inside and outside the classroom. She has a positive attitude, and tries to see the best in every situation.”

Marley describes her experience at McGuffey as “awesome!” due to all of the kind teachers and students.

Her favorite subject is math and favorite book is the Pigeon Book series.

When asked about her favorite food, Marley shared that it was macaroni & cheese, made by herself, of course.

LINCOLN PK-8 SCHOOL Dajean Zirkle Owen Popour Kai Cashwell

GRADE 8

Dajean Zirkle "Dejean is continually on task, respectful of adults and peers, and always willing to help others. I have the pleasure of teaching Dajean 4 times a day and he is an absolute joy throughout the day.” -- Lincoln Teacher Ms. Borsic When asked about his favorite subject, Dejean could not pick just one.

However, he was able to easily identify Ms. Borsic as his favorite teacher due to her nice demeanor, respectful nature and high expectations.

He has a goal to earn all As throughout this school year.

Dejean enjoys playing tennis, and running track. Outside of school he like to play video games.

GRADE 3

Owen Popour “Owen is always so positive and happy to be at Lincoln. He is always willing to help others and is a wonderful friend to everyone.” Lincoln 3-5 Principal Mr. Guthrie Owen is a ball of energy who really enjoys school. His favorite subject is math and likes doing multiplication. His favorite teacher is Ms. Grayham and he enjoys reading “Monster at the End of the Book” with his mom.

Outside of school Owen likes to hang out with his dad and also play soccer.

Kai Cashwell “Kai Cashwell was selected as our student of the month for consistently displaying fabulous WARREN attributes. She attempts all work with a stunning smile on her face. She is kind to her teacher and her classmates alike. Kai is responsible, remembering her belongings at all times. And, Kai is a talented artist and a great friend.”

Kai thanks Ms. Gibson-Williams for nominating her for Student of the Month. Kai’s favorite subject is moth and she enjoys drawing pictures of people.

Her favorite teacher is Ms. VanKirk because she is “nice and pretty”.

WILLARD PK-8 SCHOOL Dakota Davis Athena Kuptz Je’Laina Driskell

GRADE 6

Dakota Davis Willard 6-8 principal Mr. Rasile cites Dakota’s academic achievement, excellent attendance and respectful demeanor as reasons for her being selected with this month’s award.

In addition to her excellent grades, Dakota plays clarinet in the school band. Her goals for this year include maintaining good grades for the duration of the year.

When asked about her experience at Willard Dakota brought up two of her favorite teachers, Ms. Miller and Ms. Meadows – whom she had in both 4th and 5th grades.

Outside of school Dakota enjoys sewing, doing yoga, and going for long walks.

GRADE 5

Athena Kuptz “Athena comes to school every day with a smile on her face. She is very respectful to her teachers and classmates. She puts in 100% work ethic and never makes any excuses. Her student leadership is remarkable.”

-- Willard 3-5 Principal Skyeler O’Neil In her second year at Willard, 5th-grader Athena has found the staff and students to be nice and helpful.

Among her favorite people at Willard is her 4th grade teacher MS. Constantino who really pushed her to be ready for the 5th grade.

Athena’s favorite subject is math because she like working with number and all of the strategies.

Outside of school she likes to ride her bike, play Roblox, and clean the house. Her favorite food is “15 bean soup” and favorite book is “The Key to Extraordinary”.

GRADE 2

Je’Laina Driskell "Willard PK-8 second grader Je’Laina Driskell was selected as a Student of the Month because “she shows kindness to all her classmates and teachers and is positive and always willing to help others.”

Je’Laina likes to read books and mentioned that “Giraffes Can’t Dance” is one of her favorites.

When asked what she likes most about her school Je’Laina said the she likes to learn, likes her friend and teachers, and really likes PK-2 principal Ms. Polder because she is “nice, caring, and she smells good.”

Je’Laina also enjoys eating pizza and really likes to play on the swing set since she has learned to operate the swing all by herself.

She wanted to pass along that using your legs and holding on are the keys to learning the swings.
