FROM THE DESK OF THE SUPERINTENDENT I want students and families to know that there is a lot of exemplary teaching and learning happening in our schools. State testing is, by far, not the only determinant of a child's success in school or in the future. Each child has unique abilities, aptitudes, interests, talents, and thoughts about what defines their own success that state assessments do not take into account. The most important things we can do is support our kids in their uniqueness and social needs as we continue to implement proven social, emotional, and educational paradigms that work for our kids now and that will help them become who they want and need to be in the future.

Test Tips Get Enough Sleep

Adequate sleep - 8 to 10 hours - helps ensure students have the energy and stamina to make it through tests in top form.

Eat Breakfast

A healthy breakfast can boost memory and help a child be more alert! Howland Local Schools offers breakfast every morning!

Exercise

Studies show that physical activity can help improve attention and how fast students process information.

Think Positive

Science shows that thinking positive thoughts can actually help the brain function. If you start to feel stressed, take it slow, take deep breaths and think of something that makes you happy.

Have Fun

Encourage your child to do something enjoyable the night before a big test. Having fun is a helpful distraction from stress.

Do Your Best

That's all that is expected of students - to do the best they can on a test. Let your child know there may be questions they don't know the answers to or don't understand. Suggest they skip these questions and move on, coming back later when they can perhaps spend a little more time.
