2022!

ear Titan Families,

I hope everyone had a joyous and restful holiday break. The holidays provide us with a wonderful opportunity to spend quality time with our families, enjoy some leisure, and celebrate shared traditions that bring true meaning to our lives. I’m sure everyone is ready (or not) to jump back in the saddle and tackle 2022. However, one of the things I love about a new year is that it affords us a chance to reflect on the year that has passed and hopefully glean some valuable insights. That said, I’d like to share some insight gained on the past year (2021) from a Foundation perspective. 2021 marked the first, full calendar year since the official launch of True North’s Foundation. The mission of the Foundation was set forth to carry the torch raised seven years ago by the Bileca Foundation in bringing awareness to South Florida that a morally excellent education, rooted in a traditional, classical education, can be found within the setting of a public education. The Foundation’s launch in 2020-21 was met with huge success. From the philanthropic side, the Foundation raised more money than ever before: its annual fund raise was $165,000; Give Miami Day was $145,000; outside grants from public and private foundations was $230,000; etc. The fiscal year of 2021-22, from the philanthropic side, has begun with the Foundation far supassing what was accomplished in its launch year: our annual fund raise is - already - at $175,000 (July - December, 2021); our Give Miami Day total came in at over $227,000; and there is much work being done on outside grants that are sure to bear fruit in the near future. From the missional awareness side, much work is being accomplished. True North’s reputation of educational excellence already precedes itself. But the Foundation has worked tirelessly to support the good works being done at True North via newsletters, journals, events, and lots of conversations with parents and outside donors. What’s most exciting is that the True North Foundation will be hosting its 1st Annual Symposium on Classical Education. The Symposium is the fruit of a $30,000 grant that was received, in 2021, from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The Symposium will be April 22-24, 2022, and will gather nationally reknown speakers in the world of classical education and the humanities. There will be no better opportunity to learn about classical education, and what makes True North tick, than by attending the Symposium. The event will spark the beginnings of a public conversation, in South Florida, around classical education. Looking forward to seeing everyone there! You can register by going to www.tnclassicsalsymposium.org and clicking on “register.”

But getting back to those personal reflections... Despite what the Foundation has been able to accomplish in such a short period of time, none of it would have been possible if it was not for the full, support of True North faculty, staff, parents, and students. Each “success” True North has attained, whether on the schools’ side, athletics’ side, or the foundation side, is a reflection of the amazing community that has been built and the people who are a part of it. A very special person in my life once taught me that in order to go from good to great, the “I” has be placed at the service of the “we.” It’s not “I” am True North; it’s “We Are True North.” And so, for all those who gave to True North in 2021, no matter what amount, ... THANK YOU! Every dollar really does count, is recognized, and makes a difference in the lives of our True North students and in building up the best school in the State of Florida. In the new year, the Foundation hopes to continue to raise local, state, and natonal awarensss and philanthropic support of True North schools and its mission of elevating the purpose of education in making virtue, character, and moral formation the core focus. Wishing all of you a blessed, happy, and healthy new year! Warm regards, Marc Snyder, Ed.D.
