Welcome to the latest edition of Truegrip. Well this is the first edition since the elections in the summer in which I was elected as the new club chairman. I would like to thank everyone who voted, and of course thank Kim for all her efforts running the club and all the help even after stepping down. Well the show season is now at an end, and we all prepare for the festive period and some of us have put our beloved motors away for the winter but plans are already being put together for next year and not forgetting 2017 which will be SIDC’s 20th year. There is a provisional list of dates for next year on page 4. Some of the dates have not been released yet so some are just my best guess based on previous years. All the events will of course be listed on the Club Forum so keep an eye out for updates. I have been asked by several people already regarding the future of the club and what changes will be made. In the short term nothing, but that is not to say there will not be any changes. The committee are always looking at ways to make improvements to ensure SIDC is a club our members enjoy being a part of. The one thing I would like to change or at least revitalise, please forgive me for using a buzz word but it is ‘Transparency’. I guess this primarily covers the finances and decision making processes but every aspect of running the club and encourage our member to participate and help grow the clubs future. SUBARU NEWS At the Tokyo motor show back in October, Subaru unveiled the new STI tweaked Limited edition model in a bright yellow. Only 400 S207s will be made and will only be available in Japan so the only 207 you are likely to see in the UK will be carrying a Peugeot badge. If this didn’t make the S207 exclusive enough, to celebrate the class win at the 24-hour Nurburgring challenge, 200 of them will fitted with the ‘NBR Challenge Package’, featuring a larger Carbon rear wing, and a commemorative plaque, while 100 of those will be painted ‘Sunshine Yellow’ creating the ‘NBR Challenge Package Yellow Edition’. The rest will be available in WR Blue Pearl, Crystal White Pearl and Crystal Black Silica. To help distinguish the S207 from the standard model it has been treated to a large front splitter, a model specific rear bumper and a sprinkling of S207 badges.
The S207 is powered by a 2.0-liter Twin-scroll turbocharged engine, producing 323bhp and 317 lb-ft. of torque. STI have also fitted a quick-ratio steering rack (11:1) and Bilstein’s adjustable suspension. A flexible strut brace and active torque vectoring giving much better cornering performance. To help slow the car the brakes have been upgraded to STI branded Brembo 6 pot callipers upfront and 4 pot at the rear surrounded by 19-inch BBS forged aluminium alloys dressed with Dunlop 255/35/19 Sport Maxx rubber.

The award winning Ace cafĂŠ on the North Circular Road in London has been a mecca for petrol heads for decades. Its popularity has become so great that if you pop along in the spare of the moment you might find that the carpark, although quite large, will already be full when you get there. You only have to look at the calendar to see that there is rarely a weekend goes by without a gathering of like minded enthusiast. SIDC has not been for a while but the club managed to arrange a couple of dates securing the carpark for SIDC members and our friends at MLR. The first date was 24th October 2015 and next years date is 4th June 2016.

The weather did its very best to spoilt the day, it rained all night and there were a few light showers during the day but not enough to dampen spirits. There was a good mix of Impreza’s and Lancer EVO’s parked in complete harmony despite the rivalry that is perceived to exist between the different marques and there were no two cars that were the same which was quite refreshing. The staff were very friendly and there was even a carpark attendant to make sure those EVO drivers could park properly :-) The whole day was enjoyable, meeting lots of new people and catching up with friends over a bite to eat, which may I add, was very nice. A great big thank you to Ace café and we look forward to next years meet again with our MLR friends.

A couple of weeks ago I drove the route that is known as the ‘Midlands Tick’. It was such a great route through some of Leicestershire's twisty roads and the few people that joined me enjoyed it too. It made me remember what I loved about the Impreza so much, the way it just loved to be pushed through the twisty B-roads and how the grip just never seemed to end and the smile got wider and wider. This gave me an idea, there a plenty of websites detailing these routes including places to stop and eat and even local hotels so, in 2016 SIDC will organise some routes and have days throughout the year were we can, as a club, tackle some of the best roads our country has to offer.
