Single Drive Vs. Dual Drive Systems

Page 1

Single drive motor vs. Dual drive motor A common misconception is that 2 motors is better than 1 motor. On the Trout River Live Bottom and Crop Hopper trailers, we use 1 hydraulic motor to drive our conveyor system for these main reasons: • Less parts o Less moving parts means less parts that will need maintenance or replacement. o Single drive removes 1 motor, 1 gearbox, and the hoses that are required to feed the second motor • Less weight o Removing parts means removing weight • Same or more power than competitors o Our single drive motor provides more than enough power to drive our conveyor in forward, and reverse, and actually has more power than our dual drive competitors • No need to synchronise o If dual motors are not fed equal pressures and flow, they will fight, sacrificing efficiency, and increasing wear • Does not sacrifice strength o Our single drive system is as strong as our solid 3” cold rolled steel conveyor drive shaft • More simple o Whether its building it in the factory, or maintaining it in the shop, a single drive is half the work of a dual drive o This means initial costs are lower, and maintenance costs will be as well Single drive
