Safety The Trout River Trailer is not “just a trailer”, it is also a powerful machine with various mechanisms that could be potentially dangerous, the following are some general safety rules pertaining to trout river trailers: • • • • • •

• •

Never enter trailer with conveyor in operation When conveyor is running be sure to keep all body parts, clothing, etc. clear of inspection doors, conveyor belt, or any other moving parts; failure to do so could result in serious injury Be aware of the tailgate position, and stand clear when opening or closing When trailer is unloading be sure to stand clear of the rear of the trailer, as to not get injured from load exiting the tub Ladder is designed for a maximum of 250 pounds; do not exceed this limit. Top ladder rung is not meant to be a step, it is only there as a “hand-hold”; do not use as a step Trailer hydraulic system is designed to run in access of 2500 psi, this amount of pressure could be very dangerous; always take care when connecting hydraulic lines, that it is done properly, and replace any damaged hydraulic components immediately. Always be sure system pressure is relieved before maintenance o Always connect return line first and disconnect last Air system can also be dangerous, be aware of air lines, that they are not damaged, and relieve system pressure before maintenance When working on the trailer, be sure all power systems are disconnected, unless otherwise instructed or needed, always be aware of present dangers

Step 1: Remove hydraulic motor • • • •

Mark hydraulic hoses with a paint marker, then remove them o Be sure pump is off and pressure is relieved before removal Remove the 4 bolts (5/16 Allen key) that attach the hydraulic motor to the gearbox o There will be oil present here, and is a good idea to have a drain pan Set motor aside Be aware that there is a rubber O-ring between the motor and gearbox, take note of placement (shown in step 2) o We recommend changing this O-ring when you replace the high pressure seal

Step 2: Remove old high pressure seal • •

Use picks to remove old seal It does not matter if seal is damaged in the removal process

Note: O-ring fits in this grove High pressure seal

Step 3: Install new seal • • •

It is good practice to grease inside diameter of seal before installation, to reduce the chance of damage Punch new seal into place evenly, and gently so the seal does not get damaged Be sure seal is installed properly, as shown below (not backwards)

Step 4: Clean both flanges, install O-ring and silicone • • • •

Clean both motor and gearbox mating surfaces of all oil, dirt, or dried silicone Clean bolt holes and bolts at this time as well Place new O-ring on hydraulic motor, and run a small bead of Silicone (Blue RTV) around the motor flange to ensure seal and to hold O-ring in place during installation Note: There is also a “chatter guard” (Blue) that comes with the o-ring, this can be replaced at this time

Step 5: Re-attach hydraulic motor and hoses • • •

Be sure not to pinch O-ring when installing motor Snug all 4 bolts, first torque to 40 ft-lbs, then to 80 ft-lbs o Tighten in a criss-cross pattern Re-attach Hydraulic hoses at this time o Be sure they are connected to the proper fitting

Page |8

Step 6: Bleed the system •

• • •

Loosen circled bolt (6mm Allen key) a couple of rotations, and run motor o Bolt must be loosened enough so O-ring is not touching o This allows the cavity between the motor and gearbox to fill with oil again Once oil starts seeping around bolt, it can be tightened To speed up bleeding process, remove bolt, and fill cavity manually with hydraulic oil, then do bleeding process Note: Newer trailers will have a hose here instead of a plug (as pictured in step 4), the same steps apply, loosen hose to bleed, remove fitting to manually fill cavity with oil
