SPECIAL SCREENINGS

På TIFF er alle visninger og filmer spesielle, men noen er mer spesielle enn andre. Disse forestillingene gir deg et bredt spekter av unike filmopplevelser, fra filmkonserter på svømmehallen Alfheim til visninger på utekinoen på Stortorget. De fleste av disse visningene går bare én gang i løpet av festivaluka, så det kan være lurt å begynne her når du skal legge opp årets festivalløype.

A special screening is not like other screenings, to point out the obvious. This section offers a whole range of unique film experiences, like film concerts in the closed down swimming pool Alfheim and screenings at our outdoor Winter Cinema. Most of these screenings are also singular in the sense that they take place only once during the festival, so this might be the place to start planning your schedule.

Fat Front

Fire unge, skandinaviske kvinner kjemper mot en fettfobisk verden og lærer seg å elske kroppene sine. Mens de bygger opp selvtilliten, deler de historier om oppveksten som fete kvinner og hvordan de har slitt med å rive ned normative stereotypier.

Four young Scandinavian women fight against a fat-phobic world and learn to love their bodies as they are. As they build up their self-esteem, they share stories of their upbringing as fat women, and how they have struggled to dismantle normative stereotypes.

Gunda

Et roligere liv kan også oppleves gjennom film. Livet på en bondegård er i alle fall innenfor rekkevidde om du henger deg på dokumentaren om grisen Gunda. En vakker og betimelig påminnelse om hvor verdifullt livet er for alle levende vesener.

Gunda is a beautiful and timely reminder of how valuable life is for all living beings. A quiet life on a farm can be a good life, and one gets a peaceful and wholesome experience when watching this documentary about the pig Gunda.

Harlan County, USA

Norsk filmklubbforbund presenterer klassikeren Harlan County, USA. Denne øyeåpnende og medrivende thrilleren av en dokumentar følger en gruvestreik i Kentucky og vant en Oscar i 1975. Førti år etter er den fortsatt brennaktuell.

This eye-opening and captivating documentary depicts a coal miners’ strike in Kentucky, and won an Academy Award in 1976. Forty-five years on, it seems more topical than ever. The film is presented by the Norwegian Federation of Film Societies.

Tromsø filmklubb presenterer Society! Overklasseforakt, tenåringsangst, ritualistiske kulter, beksvart komikk og tonnevis med gørr er bare noen av ingrediensene i dette helsprøe angrepet på rikmannskulturen i Beverly Hills på slutten av 80-tallet.

Upper-class contempt, teenage anxiety, ritualistic cults, black comedy and tons of gore are just some of the ingredients in Society, a vicious attack on the upper-crust elites of Beverly Hills in the late ‘80s. The film is presented by Tromsø filmklubb.

SIDESPRANG av Nasjonalmuseet

SIDESPRANG BY THE NATIONAL MUSEUM

Denne forestillingen i Tromsø er del av Nasjonalmuseets arrangementsserie SIDESPRANG. Fram til det nye museumsbygget og utstillingen «Jeg kaller det kunst» står klart, vil Nasjonalmuseet ta med seg kunstnere fra utstillingen til by og bygd i Norge og vise fram alt fra performance og konserter til samtaler og video.

På med ulltøy, votter og vinterjakke og gjør deg klar for en spesialvisning på Stortorget i Tromsø i samarbeid med Nasjonalmuseet! Tre filmer av tre unike kunstnere tar opp temaer som tilhørighet, liv og død, kvinnekamp, det som splitter oss og det som bringer oss sammen.

Med ulike bakgrunner forteller kunstnerne og filmskaperne historier som kan kjennes fjerne for noen, samtidig som de tar opp universelle temaer - som Umas jakt etter tilhørighet i The Only Story av Uma Feed Tjelta, Shwans kjærlighet til sin mor i Den tatoverte solen av Shwan Dler Qaradaki og den sterke medfølelsen som Mahlets sønn kjenner i Name my dream av Mahlet Ogbe.

This event in Tromsø is part of the National Museum’s event series SIDESPRANG. Until the new museum building and the exhibition “Jeg kaller det kunst / I call it art” are ready, the National Museum will take artists from the exhibition to cities and villages in Norway and show everything from performances and concerts to conversations and video.

Put on your wool clothes, mittens and a winter jacket and get ready for a special screening on Stortorget in Tromsø, in collaboration with the National Museum! Three films by three unique artists address themes such as belonging, life and death, the fight for women’s rights, what divides us and what brings us together.

With different backgrounds, the artists and filmmakers tell stories that may feel distant to some, while addressing universal themes - such as Uma Feed Tjelta’s quest for belonging in The Only Story, Shwan Dler Qaradaki’s love for his mother in The Tattooed Sun and the strong compassion that Mahlet Ogbe Habte’s son feels in Name my dream.

IN ADDITION TO SCREENINGS AT THE WINTER CINEMA, IT WILL BE POSSIBLE TO EXPERIENCE THE FILMS AND GET TO KNOW THE ARTISTS BEHIND THEM AT AN OFF-SCREEN EVENT THAT WILL TAKE PLACE AT DRIV CAFÉ ON JANUARY 21ST AT 18:00.

Velkommen til utekino!

WELCOME TO THE WINTER CINEMA!

Tradisjon tro viser Tromsø internasjonale filmfestival film for alle aldersgrupper på utekinoen i løpet av festivaluka. Det blir filmvisninger fra morgen til ettermiddag, mandag til fredag. Det hele toppes med en eventyrlig familiedag lørdag 15. januar, hvor vi viser både Hålogaland teaters forstilling Utsikt og den nydelige animasjonsklassikeren Sangen fra Havet.

Klokken 09.00 om morgenen viser vi kortfilmprogrammer for barn i ulike aldre. På ettermiddagen har vi visinger 16.30 og 18.30 rettet mot vårt allmenne publikum. Her blir det er rikt program med alt fra nordnorske kortfilmpakker til verdenspremierer på spennende filmprosjekter. Ta på deg varme klær og få med deg filmgodbitene mellom de ordinære visningene! Velkommen! Tromsø International Film Festival takes pride in offering outdoor screenings to all audiences at Stortorget (Tromsø main Square). The screenings take place every morning and afternoon from Monday to Friday, perfectly framed by the snow and darkness of the winter. Don´t miss our annual Family day, Saturday at 15.00.

At 09.00 on weekdays we screen short film programs for young audiences. At 16.30 and 18.30 in the afternoon we will screen films for all audiences. The winter cinema will have a great variety of programs, including regional short films and exciting world premieres. Put on your parkas and catch a show between the ordinary cinema screenings! The Nordic Youth Film Festival (NUFF) is composed of both a short-film festival and a 6-day film workshop for young filmmakers. Based in Tromsø, northern Norway, NUFF will take place for the 19th year in a row in 2021. It has been an international platform for countless young filmmakers since its beginning in 2003, and is an integral part of Filmveksthuset TVIBIT.

During NUFF@TIFF, we present the 5 winner films from the NUFF 2020 film festival.

Together with Riddu Riđđu Festival we present this special audiovisual concert with Elle Márjá Eira. Multitalented Eira brings her cool electronic music with yoik influences together with strong images and stories from her homeland. This is a special experience where you will meet Eira in an intimate setting in one of Tromsø’s most spectacular venues.

After the concert Elle Márjá Eira will meet with Sandra Márjá West in a conversation about Eira’s work process with film and music and what it means to be a Sámi artist today.
