THE AURORA PRIZE

An exclusive selection 10 films are nominated for the Aurora Prize at Tromsø International Film Festival. The films must have their Norwegian premiere at TIFF to be eligible. The intention of the award is to broaden the appreciation of artistically challenging films.

Founded at the Cannes Film Festival in 1947, FICC/IFFS is an international umbrella organization for film societies and non- profit cinemas. One of its aims is to promote outstanding films for a broader audience. As a part of its work, FICC awards the Don Quixote Prize at selected film festivals, such as Cottbus, Karlovy Vary, and Locarno. Tromsø International Film Festival hosted FICC for the first time in 2000.

The Norwegian Peace Film Award (NoPFA) is awarded to a film that spotlights direct, structural or cultural violence, and in a creative way contributes to a deeper understanding of conflicts and violence. The award is presented on a yearly basis by the NoPFA foundation in collaboration with the Centre for Peace Studies (CPS) at the University of Tromsø, Tromsø International Film Festival, and the Department of Culture and Literature (IKL).

2016 FRYSNINGER / COLD SHIVERS Marius Myrmel, Norway The Faith In Film Award was given for the first time in 2017. It was established by KULT - Center for Art, Culture and Church, Norwegian Church Academies and Tromsø Church Academy in collaboration with the Tromsø International Film Festival.

The winner film should engage in and encourage critical thinking and reflection about religion’s place in society and in people’s lives, and it should provide insight into topics of spirituality. The film should be of high artistic value.

The winner of the FAITH IN FILM AWARD receives a hand-painted icon, made in the Carmelite monastery in Tromsø.
