IMAGES ARE CAPTURED WITH THE CONCEPT OF “LINES” IN MIND. THE IMAGES ARE COMPOSED IN A MANNER THAT FOLLOWS THE MOVEMENT AND DIRECTION OF THE LINES. LINEAR PATHS ARE CONTRASTED WITH THE ORGANIC LINES IN THE CENTER.

THREE IMAGES FROM PART A ARE CHOSEN AND ARRANGED INTO ONE LARGER COMPOSITION. HERE, LINEAR PATHS ARE CONTAINED WITHIN ORGANIC ONES.

THE TWO DIMENSIONAL COMPOSITION FROM PART B IS THEN TRANSFORMED AND EXTRUDED INTO A THREE DIMENSIONAL FIGURE. THE CONCEPTS OF RHYTHM, REPETITION, SCALE, AND LIGHT ARE EXPLORED.

WITH MATERIAL CONSTRAINTS, A SITE WAS CREATED TO PROVIDE THRESHOLDS, AND VARIOUS SIZED GATHERING SPACES TO ACCOMMODATE FOR THE CIRCULATION OF VISITORS.

THROUGH THE EXPLORATION OF SECTION AND ELEVATION CUTS, FLOOR PLAN AND SECTION DRAWINGS OF PART A ARE SHOWN. HERE, HIDDEN AND OVERHEAD LINES ARE USED.


OCCUPIABLE WALLS

GIVEN AN EXISTING SITE, TWO APARTMENTS WERE CREATED FOR A SOCIAL SCIENTIST AND AN ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST. THROUGH THE USE OF STRATEGIC GLAZING ON THE FACADES AND THE USE OF SHARED OUTDOOR SPACES, THE APARTMENTS ALLOW THEIR INHABITANTS TO FEEL A SENSE OF COMMUNITY.



ON THE RIGHT, A FLOOR PLAN OF EACH LEVEL AND THREE SECTIONS OF THE APARTMENTS ARE SHOWN.




LIVING LIGHTHOUSE

MICRO-HOUSING LOCATED ALONG INTERSTATE 75/85 EAST OF GEORGIA TECH. THE THIRTY UNIT APARTMENT IS CONNECTED TO CAMPUS VIA THE THIRD STREET TUNNEL. THE BUILDING INCLUDES CLASSROOMS, A POOL, ROCK CLIMBING GYM, FITNESS GYM, AND CAFE.













WALLS AND UNIT CONSTRUCTION

TWO SEPARATE MASONRY WALLS ARE COMBINED TO CREATE A “CORNER”. BY USING DOUBLE THICK HEADER AND STRETCHER BRICK PATTERNS (ALONG WITH OTHER VARIATIONS), A STRUCTURALLY SOUND WALL WAS CREATED. USING A “KEYSTONE” TECHNIQUE, AN ARCHED WINDOW WAS ALSO INCLUDED.




FRAME AS ARCHITECTURE




USING ENGINEERED LUMBER, GLASS, AND WOODEN FRAMING TECHNIQUES, A BUS SHELTER THAT PROVIDES INDOOR AND OUTDOOR SEATING, SHADED AND LIT AREAS, AND STANDING ROOM WAS CREATED FOR USE ALONG GEORGIA TECH’S STINGER BUS ROUTE.
