Critics praise The Grapes of Wrath, “As you’ve never seen it before or are unlikely to ever see again,” (Newport Mercury), “Potent and absorbing,” (Broadway World), “Beautiful, immersive theater that’s been carefully crafted,” (WPRO News) and, “It is the excellent work of the actors which truly makes this performance sing,” (Edge Providence).
"The public's response to this production has been so overwhelming, "states Curt Columbus, Trinity Rep's Richard L. Bready Artistic Director, "Audiences have been reacting on such an emotional level to this story - a tight-knit family driven out of their home and fighting to stay alive. When the opportunity arose to extend the show, the cast immediately asked for us to arrange for one performance to support people facing those same problems today. It was our honor to dedicate this additional Friday performance to benefit DARE and RI Coalition for the Homeless, two groups committed to making a difference locally."
Direct Action for Right and Equality (DARE) Direct Action for Rights and Equality is a membership organization based in the Southside of Providence. They work for political, economic, racial and social justice. DARE’s Behind the Walls Prison Committee has been integral in campaigns for voting rights for former inmates, in the recent Unshackling Pregnant Prisoners Legislation and in last year’s reforms to 32F probation violations.
The Rhode Island Coalition for the Homeless The Rhode Island Coalition for the Homeless’ programs and initiatives strive to highlight the issue of homelessness, increase public awareness, and heighten public involvement in order to solve the problem of homelessness in Rhode Island. They do this through community outreach and engagement, public policy systems change, advocacy, strategic communications and public relations, data collection and analysis, and selected direct services.
