Long time no see, huh? This year Trinity Ball is back with a bang, bringing you a whole range of acts for this years theme... Celtic Revival! I’m sure you’ve missed us just as much as we’ve missed you, so let’s get into what to expect from Trinity Ball 2022. I’m sure this years Trinity Ball (Or T-Ball for those who are just extra cool) is going to be one for the books. It’s been a long time since any of us had the joys or queuing up in the cold for a line up you aren’t really all that happy with, but the FOMO was too much to not buy a ticket. All jokes aside, this year is sure to be a good one. There’s plenty of built up exciement and anticpation for whatever night of madness and music ENTS have put together for us this year. In this years guide to Trinity Ball, we’re bringing you guides on each of the acts, as well as any must-know information you simply need to know before making an absoulte fool of yourself on front square.

This years line-up has some familiar faces, especially if you were one of the poor souls with a Trinity Ball ticket way back in 2020 (rest in peace). This year under our shiny new theme of Celtic Revival ENTS is bringing you Tinie Tempah, Alan Fitzpatrick, Biig Piig, CMAT, and Malaki, just to name a few. Let’s break down the acts so you can be that one cool person who knows all the performers, even if they’re super obscure. Like totally so underground.

Alan Fitzpatrick is known for successfully carving out his only unique niche in the never ending techno world, but how does it stand up against our beloved DUDJ? Fitzpatricks tunes like Haven’t You Heard combine that good old disco grooviness with everything you love about techno. I’d highly recommend bring your Dr Martens for this one so you can get a proper groove on, because trust me, We Do What We Want is sure to make you dance the night away.
Biig Piig is an Irish singer and rapper currently based in West London. Her music is a mix of English and Spanish, adding a whole other level to her work. Her song Feel Right transports you to a whole other dimension with her chilled out vibes and steady beats. If you’re trying to look cool this Trinity Ball, you’re sure to look like the vibest gal in the world rocking away to Biig Piig and her chilled out beats. Biig Piig is one to give a listen to before you get to her set, just so you can enjoy singing Switch while aggresively pointing into the void at whoevers wronged you.
CMAT is a singer, songwriter, and musician from Dublin. Her style is to die for, looking like she’s walked straight out of Lucy’s Lounge. CMAT’s music melds together folk, pop, and country, creating memorable beats that you just can’t help dancing to. If someone can find out, I’d really appreciate if someone could find out what hairspray she uses because that level of quiff and volume is something I can only aspire to achieve.

Tinie Tempah shouldn’t come as any surprise for anyone in the know with Trinity Ball drama. Meant to headline the last Trinity Ball, Tinie Tempah is due to take the main stage on the 22nd. Starting his music career back in 2005, Tinie Tempah is perhaps best known for some of his major hits such as Written in the Stars and Pass Out. Now, we can hope that nobody takes that last hit literarly, but I know for sure Tinie Tempahs time on stage is gonna get people moving, dancing, and enjoying Trinity Ball in all it’s essence.

Malaki is the name to know if you’re trying to get up to date with anything in Irish rap. Emerging into the scene back in 2019, Malaki’s music is explosive and expressive, challenging the ‘hard man’ archetype that so many Irish lads are raised with. Malaki challanges toxic masculinity, fusing together personal messages of self expression and explorations of truth. Malaki’s tunes are vibey with smooth lyrics that you can’t help dancing to. This is one not to miss!
GRACEY’s music is the perfect dance along vibe with head bopping tunes. She might be in the middle of touring, but I know I sure am glad she’s taking the time to stop at Trinity Ball this year. Her songs like Empty Love are a mesh of everything you love about pop but fresh, original, and extra catchy. When I was trying to come up with the words to sum up the vibe GRACEY gives I started listening to the song ‘Got You Covered, and let me tell you, peak Charli XCX vibes!
DJ Seinfeld is the tent you’d expect to find people finger tutting at. You know the gloves with the lights at the finger tips? Yep, exactly that. DJ Seinfeld is the perfect vibe for your house music vibes and head banging dancing, with tunes like ‘These Things WIll Come To Be’ and ‘U’ having a steady rhythm to vibe away to! Just don’t let yourself get completely hypnotised by their music, I’m pretty sure I was transported to a different plane while vibing out listening to their music writing this.
49th & Main are an iconic independent indie-pop electronic duo who started releasing music way back in the hell year of 2020. Between Ben and Paddy, they record their own vocals, play their own instruments, and produce their own work. Impressive, right? Their music is the peak of house music with smooth tunes that are sure to be the perfect vibe to dance the night away.

Guess what guys, that’s right, it’s another electronic duo. Don’t worry though, each of these groups are bringing something different to the table and the same can sure be said about Obskür. Hailing from Dublin, Obskür’s inception back in 2019 has led way to some banging music that brings elements of hard hitting 90’s music, and peak Hip-Hop samples. Obskür are the perfect vibe for some heavy dancing and absolute vibes.
Plantain Papi is a producer and vocalist from Dublin taking music and making it his own. He fuses rap, afrobeat, and pop sounds together and has been making waves since 2017. Plantain has been banging out tune after tune and his songs like ‘Crazy’ and ‘Good Time’ are the perfect song to get your groove on to. His vocals and rhymes hit, but the beats are simply unmatched. To quote the man himself, you better come check out his set so you can ‘let your waistline move’.
If you’re thinking ‘where is my dreamy chilled out pop music!?’ look no further. Just Wondering are the perfect group for your chilled out vibes and bounce along dancing. Their music brings you summery dreamy pop that’s sure to bring you to a whole other world. Make sure to check them out if you’re looking for some raw vocals and absolute peak dance along vibes to get you through the night this Friday.

Prospa is our next electronic duo to come to Trinity Ball this year and they bring something a little different to the table. While they had more of an interest in rock early on in their teens, when they discovered electronic music it all changed for them. Their music meshes together the vibe of classic house and rave-era music. The pair are from across the water in Leeds and we’re excited to have them over at Trinity Ball this year, funky tunes in hand!

Long long ago, back in 1958, Trinity Ball began. Way back then it wasn’t just a night to get drunk at while pointing at the library and saying “ha, I should be in there right now”. Nono, Trinity Ball was a hub of excellent tunes, fabulous fashions, and great times all around. Of course we still can claim that, but I don’t think we’ll ever reach the same level of funky as these pictures way back when. 08_ 08_

Keep the dresses midi to mini if possible. It gets surprisingly muddy when over 7000 people are running around campus. Any longer and you’ll be tripping up yourself, people around you, and creating a bit of a mud bath in the process. If you’re going to go for something uber fabulous, accept that your dress will be a muddy mess.
Vintage and fabulous is all the rage. Expect to see funky shirts and slinky silks spattered all over Trinity Ball this year. Whether you’re going for 90s grunge or the Y2K fashion dominating the world right now, sticking with something a little bit vintage inspired is sure to bode well for your Trinity Ball fashion show.
Let’s hear it for funky jewellery! If you can find anything earring sized, whether it’s toy duck, or anything in anyway sparkly, smack em on your ears and you’ll be hitting all the trend ticks. If you want to level it up, find some chunky costume jewellery chains and rings. Warning, you might turn into a disco ball.

It feels a bit silly saying make sure you bring a phone, but at the very least, try bring a portable charger. You’re going to be playing photographer for the night, and fingers crossed, BeReal will wait till we’re all dressed up before sending out the notifcation, but let’s be real, you’re phone battery isn’t going to last all night. Charge up before you go and get ready to charge it on the go! You might not want to bring your whole wallet or purse with you, but make sure you have the essentails. Have your card/ cash so you can enjoy the food and drink stands. Have your I.D on hand. And don’t forget to plan ahead! If you’re heading home via bus, luas, or train, have the leap card handy too! You don’t want to get stranded when we all get kicked out late Friday night.

Trinity Ball is an event for everyone to enjoy, so we’re going to give you some headsup about the accessibility set up going into this years Trinity Ball. This is going to cover everything from how you actually get in, where you can go to take a breathe if you’re overwhelmed, and some general safety tips to make sure you get the most out of the night. If you need any further information on how to stay safe on the night, check out the SU information on drug safety and what to do when spiked. If you need to reach out to anyone Trinity Ents should be at the ready to help out and answer any questions you might have! Now if you’re looking for somewhere peaceful on the actual night, there’s a few things you need to know. On the night of Trinity Ball the campus doesn’t exactly run as normal, spaces that are normally a place of quiet refuge tend to get a little bit busier. The main tents get pretty crowded, but you can usually find some peace on the greens just outside the tents, especially near the GMB. Access isn’t just whether or not the event is wheelchair accessible, and the ball itself can become a bit of a sensory overload. This year, ENTS are making sure there’s two spaces of respite in case you’re feeling overwhelmed at any point. These spaces have St Johns Ambulance and Trinity medical staff at hand if you need any further assistance too.
On the night you can access the event through the Nassau Street entrance (the Arts Block) or at the Westland Row Entrance (Science Gallery). You must have your ticket with you to enter on the night! There’s also a limited time frame for ticket checking, so make sure to be there between 21:00 and 22:30 to get into Trinity Ball.
Before heading to Trinity Ball, we’d also recommend taking sometime to familarise yourself with any harm reduction information you’re going to need, depending on the type of night you’re planning on having. As part of this, we also highly recommened looking over the posts from both the SU and Ents regarding spiking, and how to help a friend in case this happens on the night. It’s always best to stay informed, even if you think it’s unlikely to happen to you or your friends. Your drink might appear foggy, have excessive bubbles, change colour, or if there’s ice, it might sink to the bottom. If your friend might have been spiked, stay with them, and get help from a member of staff. Don’t leave them with anyone you don’t know or trust, and make sure they stop drinking!
If you’re planning on heading into the college before the ball, or if you don’t have a ticket and you’re just reading this to avoid the rush later in the day, there’s a few FYI’s you should know. On the 22nd, the Front Gate entrance will be closed all day up until midday the next day. You can also access the college through the other entrances as normal up until 2pm on Friday. From then on, you’re going to need to show your student I.D to get into college, and you need to be off campus before half 5! You also have some restrictions to worry about if you’re a resident on campus.
Make sure to stay safe on the night, know your limits, and familarise yourself with the spaces you can take a breather if you need it. Finally, eat before you get there, and don’t go mad at pre-drinks. Know your limits, and just take your time. It’s not a race! Hydrate and eat up, we’ll see you there!
Residents! This ones for you. Unless you have a ticket, you can’t access college as normal. There is no access for residents between 19:00 and 02:00, so make sure to get your shopping in if you aren’t planning on actually going to the ball.

Hydrate! Please! We can’t emphasise this enough. If you drink before hand you’re going to be less likely to start downing every other drink around you. Plus, you’re going to be thankful of it in the morning when you’re fighting off a hangover and the fear. Charge your phone! We know we’ve already said it, but just charge it up before you leave the house. It doesn’t take any effort at all and will save you a headache later on in the night. We all want to have fun at Trinity Ball, but be smart with your fun, okay? Since you’ve already followed our handy little check list, you’ll already have a condom in your bag, so use it! Wrap it up and keep everyone safe while you’re having your fun okay. You can be warm and fashionable in the one! I promise! We’ve already recommended bringing some flats to save your feet from pain, but don’t forget to bring something warm too! You can make it a statement jacket, a cute cardigan, or a scarf turned shawl. Now this might just be me, but the stress of exams and essays has ruined a good night out in the past. Get ahead of the stress now and spend a day or two in the library, even if it’s only for an hour or two. If that sounds like too much, just make a plan for next week so you don’t have to start planning while hungover!

Please eat something before you go out! We’ve all heard the term soakage before, and while shovelling slices of white pan bread into your mouth to literally soak up drink is a bit ridiculous, there’s some truth to be said in it. There’s usually some food stalls at Trinity Ball, but think ahead and get some food in before you go. Eat up, think ahead, and save your bank account a few extra euros.
