Samantha shines for hosts with most Fencing THERE were medals galore for Wrexham Fencing Club as they staged the latest round of the Leon Paul Junior Foil Series. The 100-strong event attracted top-class fencers from across the UK, with 10 of those competing coming from the host club. George Dolan and Stephanie Collister both won gold, in the Under 11s boys and U15s girls respectively, but their superb showings were surpassed by Samantha Fincham. In her first ever competition, Samantha stormed to U9s girls success. Her sister Pippa also fared well, just missing out a top-three finish in the U11s girls. Jed Houghton won U13s boys silver while Cassie Eades would have taken home an U13s girls medal had she not been beaten by the eventual winner. Beth Ellis cruised through the U11s girls poules before being knocked out in the direct eliminations, Luke Potts was so close to a last-four place in the U15s boys, while George Morris was 10th and Jack Davies 19th in the U11s boys. ■ See www.wrexhamfencingclub.co.uk for more information about Wrexham Fencing Club.
