After more than twelve months of prayerful discernment, the Search Committee and Vestry are pleased to announce that the Vestry has accepted the Committee’s unanimous recommendation and called The Reverend Andrew R. Thayer, Rector of Church of the Ascension, Montgomery, Alabama, to be the 26th Rector of Trinity Church, New Orleans. Andy came to Church of the Ascension after serving on the cathedral ttaff at Christ Church Cathedral in Oxford, England, where he was studying for his Doctorate of Philosophy in Theology. Prior to his time in England, Andy served as Rector of Saint Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church and Academy, Corpus Christi, Texas. He received his Master of Divinity from the School of Theology at the The University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee. Andy and his wife Kelsey will be celebrating their 23rd anniversary on June 4. They and their children, William (14), Natalie (12) and James (6), are looking forward to being part of the Trinity Church and School family. The Search Committee took care to listen carefully to you, our parish, as they created our new Parish Profile and began the journey to call our next Rector. The recommendation to the Vestry to call Andy came with peace, joy and the certainty that we had found whom God was calling to lead Trinity into its future. Everyone on the Search Committee, (Nell Bolton, Brooke Duncan, Cres Gardner, Amory Levert, Rivers Lelong, Heather Lonian, Alice Parkerson, Leila Schumacher, Tim Trapolin, and Sarah Young, along with advisors Catherine Freeman and John Wogan, and Co-chairs Kathy Eastman and King Logan), gave unselfishly of their time and their talents. The journey was unforgettable and a deeply spiritual experience. We were blessed with the support of Bishop Morris Thompson, and guided by the knowledgeable and supportive presence of Canon Shannon Manning. Trinity has also been blessed to have The Reverend Corky Carlisle as our Interim Rector. He has been a wonderful pastor throughout his time with us, providing guidance and encouraging us all to do the work we are called to do. This is an exciting time for Trinity as we prepare to thank Corky and to welcome Andy. We are thankful for all of you, who have entrusted us with this discernment. Your support and your prayers have helped us throughout this process. Kathy Eastman, Co-Chair, Search Committee
