As most of you are by now aware, we will celebrate a new ministry together on the 29th of November at 6:00 pm at Trinity. It will be a long time until you have the opportunity to celebrate this occasion again so I hope you have plans to join us - it’s sure to be a grand party. Last week a parishioner wanted to know the date of our Celebration of New Ministry but couldn’t remember the name of the service. “When is your...coronation?” she asked and we both laughed. Of course it is not a coronation, nor is it merely an installation which both makes me sound like a large kitchen appliance, and ignores the communal aspect of what we are celebrating. This occasion allows us to give thanks for where we have been as well as where God is calling us in the future. In the years to come we will all be called to participate in what God is doing at Trinity Church. I will be in the midst of it, but hopefully you will too. The new ministry that we share is all about Baptism and not just my priesthood. Let me give you an example: if you counted up all the things that only a priest can do - preside at the Eucharist and pronounce absolution — it wouldn’t add up to a whole lot of my week. Most of my ministry is attempting to live in to our baptismal life. What we are celebrating on November 29th is living in to the Baptismal promises that we all share in common. It isn’t just my ministry that we are celebrating, it is ours. I hope you will be a part of this special night and, more importantly, participate fully in the Baptismal life that we all share at Trinity. We are blessed so that we may be a blessing. The future looks very bright and I am eager to see what God has in store for us.

Children, Youth & Family Ministries

Feast of St. Nicholas Wednesday, December 6 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm Bishop Polk Hall Join us for a family evening where we will learn about the true Santa Claus and Father Christmas: St. Nicholas, a man of faith who lived his life in devotion to Christ. We will hear the story of St. Nicholas, do a fun activity and maybe even leave with a little surprise!

Children’s Advent Liturgy: Sunday, December 24, at 10:30 am. ​ “​ The Church learned a long time ago that people need a way to get ready to enter or even come close to a mystery like Christmas. So the church set aside four weeks to get ready. This is such a great Mystery that it takes that long to get ready.

During this time, we are all on the way to Bethlehem. We are all making the journey. We are all getting ready to enter the Mystery of Christmas, so let’s go with the prophets, the Holy Family, the shepherds, the angels, the Magi and all the rest to make the journey that was not just back then. It is also now.” From the Godly Play Advent I Script

Come donkeys! Come sheep! Come little lambs! Come prophets! Come shepherds! Come magi! Come angels! Come stars! This year the children of Trinity Church will offer the gift of a Children’s Advent Liturgy during that 10:30 am service on Sunday, December 24. All children (members and visitors alike) are invited to come to church dressed as their favorite part of the story and participate in the Liturgy. As the narrators take us on the journey to Bethlehem, children dressed as their favorite part of the story will be invited up to the altar as the story progresses.

Wednesday Night Advent Offerings!

All Wednesday nights begin with Holy Eucharist at 5:30 pm, followed by dinner and a program from 6:00-7:00 pm.

•December 6: Feast of St. Nicholas Celebration, see above for details. This will also be an opportunity to sign up for our 2017 Giving Tree to benefit CASA children and Kingsley House Seniors.

•December 13: The Rev. Andrew Thayer will host an evening of good conversation and good cheer!

Come get to know our new Rector in a relaxed and informal environment.

•December 20: Caroling We Will Go!!! After a brief Eucharist (we will use the Five-Minute Mass format), we will sing carols in the neighborhood. More information to follow.

• Also this Advent, we will hold a “Liturgy of Light in the Darkness” on Thursday, December 21, at 6:00 pm followed by a reception. This will be a candlelit service of Holy Eucharist. Holidays are not always times of joy for everyone and this beautiful, quiet liturgy acknowledges and honors that reality.

Christmas Giving Tree for Kingsley House Center and CASA Children

Share the abundance of God’s blessings this Advent by helping give Christmas gifts through two of our community partners, CASA and Kingsley House!

At Kingsley House, there are 75 participants in the Adult Day Care program. We will have tags on a Christmas tree in the undercroft with suggested items. Monetary donations are also appreciated if you prefer to have someone else be your personal shopper! If you are interested in accompanying us to deliver these gifts, please contact Kit at Kmclean@trinitynola.com or Maria at melliott@ trinitynola.com. We will visit the folks at Kingsley House on Tuesday, December 21 at 11:00 am.

CASA is a child advocacy program. A tree with “gift” tags will be in the undercroft as well. Help make a child’s Christmas extra special this season!

You are invited to attend a Christmas Tea hosted

by Out and About on Sunday, December 17 at 3:00 pm in the Parish House. Please join us for a cup of Christmas cheer and a scone or two.

Out and About is not a group or a club! Out and About offers and opportunity for you to participate in outings around New Orleans to visit interesting places with friendly people. Our next outing will be to see the beautiful iconography of Raymond Calvert at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church in Metairie. On Tuesday, December 5 Raymond will give us a guided tour of his work. We will leave Trinity at 10:00 am and carpool to St. Augustine’s. We will stop for lunch at a local restaurant after the visit. Walking the Mourner’s Path Facilitator Training

Trinity will be hosting a facilitator training for Walking the Mourner’s Path on March 1-3, 2018.

Christmas Concert with Krewe de Voix

Krewe de Voix Chamber Choir, directed by Trinity’s Interim Organist & Choirmaster, Paul Weber, will return to Trinity with a Christmas concert on Friday, December 8 at 7:00 pm. New Orleans’ premier a capella, early music vocal ensemble, Krewe de Voix will offer a program of traditional carols, works of Monteverdi, and a Christmas cantata from the 1736 Ursuline Manuscript that was given to the New Orleans Ursuline sisters in 1754. Krewe de Voix was formed last year with singers from the Trinity Choir, members of the St. Patrick’s church choir, and other professional singers in the New Orleans area. The concert will be free; donations will be much appreciated; and a reception will follow the program in Bishop Polk Hall.

Thank You The CASA Kids Book Drive has been a huge success! With the books donated by Trinity Church and School, which range in interest from babies to teens and young adults, there are enough to create a library for the kids served by CASA in Jefferson Parish. On behalf of CASA and those kids, we thank you for your generosity!

Trinity Treasures Wise and Wonderful Books and Gifts Trinity Treasures will again be a hub of activity as we enter the Advent and Christmas seasons.

On Sunday, December 3, William Barnwell and some of the individuals mentioned in his book will be making a presentation based on Angels in the Wilderness at 9:15 in the chapel. William will also be signing his book following the presentation.

Trinity Treasures volunteers will be appearing at the Lambeth House Christmas Bazaar on Wednesday, December 6 with an array of special gifts and Christmas cards for the residents to choose from at this one-stop shopping event. Please stop by our table if you’re at Lambeth House that day.

During the weekend of December 9 and 10, Trinity Treasures will offer its sparkling Christmas table at the annual PRC Holiday Home Tour boutique in Bishop Polk Hall. We’ll be featuring Sally Cockerham’s outrageously delicious Sweet and Spicey Almond Crackle, aka “Fat Thigh Crunch!” Come see us. There will be lots of familiar Trinity faces working there!

Finally, as we move into the Advent and Christmas seasons, Trinity Treasures is offering a wide array of tasteful nativities, Advent candles, wreathes and calendars and other meaningful and joyful items that will bring smiles to faces you love.

And don’t forget the exquisitely researched, written and photographed book on The Stained Glass of Trinity by Jim Theis and Ginny Horner. It will make a very thoughtful Christmas gift for anyone who loves Trinity!

The Angels in the Wilderness: Young and Black in New Orleans and Beyond

Conversation on Sunday, December 3 in the chapel, 9:15-10:15 am

When Jesus was in the wilderness forty days and nights, with Satan after him, we are told that the angels ministered to him. Over the years, the Reverend William Barnwell has asked many of the young African Americans he has known to tell their wilderness stories and who the angels were who ministered to them. He soon realized that the 27 young people he interviewed for this book are becoming our angels in the New Orleans wilderness.

Several of them will share their stories on December 3, including Ms. Lindsey Ardrey, chaplain at St. George’s School and co-chair of the Diocesan Commission on Racial Reconciliation, and also Big Chief Tugga Cloud of the only all-youth Indian tribe, the Red Flame Hunters. New Orleans historian Dr. Lawrence Powell, author of The Accidental City, writes in the foreword: “For all of the tragedy that has befallen New Orleans over the years, Angels in the Wilderness is an indispensable reminder that light can still pierce the darkness. It’s a book worth reading, then contemplating.” All profits will go to Trinity Treasures.

Trinity Rummage

Trinity Rummage needs your household, working electrical items, holiday, clothes, linens, toys, books, small furniture, etc. Please help us to fill our boxes and shelves! You can bring the merchandise any day to the rummage box in the church undercroft or to the rummage room on Josephine St. on Tuesday mornings. Preservation Resource Center Holiday Tour Trinity Church is hosting the Preservation Resource Center Holiday Home Tour on December 9 & 10(Saturday and Sunday) from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. The tour features 7 magnificent private homes in the Garden District. Grammy Award winning musician Delfeayo Marsalis and his Uptown Jazz Orchestra will present a special holiday celebration: The concert will feature the Duke Ellington/Billy Strayhorn jazzy rendition of the classic Nutcracker Suite, classic holiday songs and a good oldfashioned 2nd-line ending. The 15-piece Uptown Jazz Orchestra won this year’s Best of the Beat award for “Best Contemporary Jazz CD” and captivates audiences every Wednesday night at Snug Harbor.

“AS Time Goes By,” New Year’s Eve with Albinas Prizgintas celebrating an AULD LANG SYNE, program with a variety of music on piano, organ and harpsichord.
