Professor McCaughrin continues to offer Health Systems Organization and Policy courses to students in both the on-campus and executive programs. These are key courses offered in the first semester of the graduate program. He teaches a very popular undergraduate course on the U.S health care system. Last fall, he co-taught an undergraduate course in global health management, a growing interest of Trinity students. He has had numerous publications in professional journals including Medical Care Research and Review, Quality Review Bulletin, and Health Policy, Politics and the Law.
Professor Schumacher’s paper “Underpaid or Overpaid? Wage Analysis for Nurses Using Job and Worker Attributes,” was the lead article in the April 2012 edition of the Southern Economic Journal. His current research focuses on nursing unions, and he presented “Union Elections and Nursing Wages” at the Western Economic Association’s Annual Meeting in June in San Francisco. Schumacher is currently engaged in a faculty fellowship at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio for summer 2012, where he is helping to improve clinical quality outcomes. He will also help with data analysis and observe meetings with physicians and staff.
