MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

DANNY ANDERSON, PH.D. DEAR TIGER PARENTS, What a remarkable group you are! Thank you for the support you provide for your students and our entire Trinity Tiger community. From your involvement in your student’s success, to participation in parent events, to financial support, you form a critical part of our University. You made my first year as director of parent giving and engagement a truly happy one. Thank you!

You are such a positive part of my life and so I share with you that, as I start this new year out, my oldest daughter is leaving for college.

Now I truly am in your shoes, and I am grateful for the many lessons you have taught me. I have learned from you to be involved in her university community behind the scenes, like our Parent Council. I have learned to trust the University to have her best interest at heart.

And I have learned to trust my child with her decisions.

As for Trinity, I look forward to continuing the wonderful relationships I have developed with parents, and I truly can’t wait to develop new ones as well. Please do not ever hesitate to reach out to me, whether you are ready to join our fabulous Parent Council, or just to ask a question or say hello.

This has been a year of increasing momentum for Trinity University, from completion of the University’s new Campus Master Plan, to admitting the second largest first-year class in 35 years, to the Wall Street Journal’s recognition of our faculty (#6 in the nation). We have taken every opportunity to tell the Trinity story loudly and proudly.

A Trinity education is anchored in touchstone experiences that define a student’s identity, sense of self, and lasting relationship with the University. THE ROBERTSONS CELEBRATE DECADES OF GIVING

Ginny and Jim Robertson P’97 P’00 have always enjoyed their visits to Trinity, happily observing changes and improvements throughout the campus over the years. They have formed relationships with Trinity staff and professors whom they still connect with today.

As parents, the couple made their first gift to the University in the fall of 1993 when their eldest daughter began her studies. Since then, the Robertsons have given annually and have taken advantage of Jim’s company gift matching program.

Now alumnae, their daughters Stacey Maurice ’97 and Courtney Rawlins ’00 chose Trinity after a thorough University search.

“We would like to do what we can to ensure other students will have a similar experience,” said Ginny. “In addition to their education, Trinity’s reputation carries tremendous value. Trinity graduates benefit continually throughout their lives and careers from that reputation.

We want to see the value of that reputation retained and increased.”

In addition to Trinity, Jim and Ginny support their church, their own alma maters, and a variety of other philanthropic opportunities.

They hope their contributions leave staff in the organization feeling valued and appreciated.

“Philanthropy is something we hope we all practice in some form or another,” says Jim. “We all benefit from a variety of institutions or organizations, and it is incumbent upon us to support them in some fashion.”

The Robertsons were initially inspired by their own parents, who practiced regular giving to their alma maters. While the family agrees that philanthropy is an individual decision, they encourage parents to see the benefit of making the Trinity experience and education available to others.

“We hope other parents will also recognize that the Trinity reputation will provide continuing value to their children,” says Ginny. “We hope that they will be inspired to support Trinity beyond the day when the tuition bills stop coming.”

What comes next? I recently began a full-time position with Make-A-Wish Central and South Texas as a Wish Experience/Development Coordinator, and I am excited to use my Trinity education to help San Antonio children battling life-threatening medical conditions.

SCHOLARSHIP CREATED FOR COACH JIM POTTER David ’75 and Janette Prichard are excited to attend the naming ceremony of the Trinity University Intramural (IM) Field in honor of longtime intramural director Jim Potter ’63, ’67. The couple is honoring Jim Potter’s coaching career by contributing $50,000 towards a scholarship endowment in the legendary coach’s name.

The remaining $50,000 needed to establish an official endowment will be matched from alumni and friend contributions.

Potter earned a Bachelor of Science from Trinity in 1963 and a Master of Education in 1967 before starting his 33 year tenure as Trinity’s intramural director. Potter is a decorated football official, former athlete, and proud Trinity alumnus.

“I can think of no one more deserving of a Trinity honor than Jim Potter,” said John Collins ’79, a former student IM leader. “We consider Coach Potter family.

His decades on campus contributed immeasurably to Trinity’s unique fiber and campus spirit still seen today.”

Through Potter’s leadership, Trinity’s intramural program thrived into one of the finest programs in the nation. He mentored generations of students every year to help build the program as well as the students’ leadership skills.

“Many students depended on us to coordinate everything,” said Matt Parker ’07, a former IM program student leader. “We knew this was an opportunity that most schools [our size] didn’t have and we knew that our department helped enhance our college community.”

Potter is just one example of the world-class faculty and staff members’ lasting impact on Trinity’s confident and curious culture that is made possible through the generous support of donors. The memories, mentorship, and connections, built here will last a lifetime.
