J. WILLIAM ROBBINS, DDS, MA
With the increased emphasis on interdisciplinary treatment, the deficiencies associated with traditional methods of diagnosis and treatment planning have become more evident. Historically, the treatment plan was dictated by information provided by study casts. The primary tools available for treating the complex restorative patient were functional crown lengthening surgery and increasing the vertical dimension of occlusion. With the advent of new treatment modalities, the historical method of diagnosis and treatment planning is no longer adequately serving our profession. This course provides a systematic approach to diagnosis and treatment planning the complex interdisciplinary dental patient with a common language.
UPON COMPLETION OF THIS SESSION, ATTENDEES SHOULD BE ABLE TO:
• Describe the “4 Global Diagnoses” which dictate all interdisciplinary treatment planning.
• Describe the “5 CORE Questions” with their corresponding treatment options.
• Describe the “6 Tools” used to treat the Global Diagnoses.

Dr. Robbins maintains a full-time private practice and is clinical professor in the Department of Comprehensive Dentistry at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Dental School. Dr. Robbins has published over 80 articles, abstracts and chapters on a wide range of dental subjects and coauthored two textbooks, Fundamentals of Operative Dentistry – A Contemporary Approach, which is in its fourth edition, and Global Diagnosis –A New Vision of Dental Diagnosis and Treatment Planning. He has lectured to many SSC affiliates on subjects related to interdisciplinary treatment planning.

AI is not meant to replace dentists, but rather to enhance their diagnostic capabilities. Dentists possess invaluable contextual knowledge and expertise that enriches the decision-making process. While AI systems can identify abnormalities and suggest potential diagnoses, it is ultimately the dentist’s responsibility to analyze the information, consider the patient’s unique circumstances, and make informed treatment decisions. By leveraging AI as a complementary tool, dentists can improve diagnostic efficiency and accuracy, ultimately delivering better care to patients.
UPON COMPLETION OF THIS SESSION, ATTENDEES SHOULD BE ABLE TO:
• Understand what AI can and cannot do and learn how dental artificial models are trained.
• Discover the current and future potential of AI to improve oral health.
• Identify opportunities within clinical processes in which AI-assisted care can enhance the processes, patient communication and outcomes.
• Learn how claims could be paid in a more consistent, precise and evidence-based manner

Bridget is an expert Clinical Implementation Specialist at Overjet and has been a dedicated Dental Hygienist for 22 years. A lifelong resident of New York State, her journey in the dental profession began with her studies at LeMoyne College. Bridget stays current in her hygiene expertise by contributing monthly at a local clinic, offering low-cost dental services. She enjoys spending her free time outdoors, boating and biking in the Finger Lakes.

Anxiety, pain, depression, burnout. Dentistry can be difficult and take a toll. Studies show us that dental professionals experience a high incidence of mental illness. Additionally, many dental professionals don’t clearly understand the mental health conditions that our patients present with, which red flags to watch for or what to do/how to intervene. This course explores strategies for working together to improve mental health so we can be our best. Discover how and when to refer to a mental health professional and learn how to manage expectations – both our own and those of our patients. Dental professionals often examine the physical aspects of wellness yet we rarely explore or discuss the mental aspects. It is time to remove the taboo and face the facts.
UPON COMPLETION OF THIS SESSION, ATTENDEES SHOULD BE ABLE TO:
• Discover mechanisms for coping with our personal and professional challenges.
• Learn how to choose the professionals for our own personal wellness team.
• Identify and examine our psychologic triggers and their importance.
