Academic Program

Bridging the Disciplines

Creating closely integrated connections between dental disciplines remains a compelling challenge for everyone committed to providing the highest quality of care.

Our goal with the offerings in Bridging the Disciplines is to foster strong partnerships between stakeholders. It was inspired by one of San Francisco’s most elegant and enduring landmarks, the Golden Gate Bridge. This miracle of engineering is the ultimate monument to the human mind spanning an impossible distance and standing firm against gale force winds and waves. The bridge represents the vision of one man and the work of a team.

By analogy, our mission for this year is to provide a blueprint for the winning combination of dream and determination in the team setting. Our programs will create an opportunity to bridge all the clinical and non-clinical dental disciplines and integrate them with essential skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, collaboration and creativity.

Unlock the ROI: Bringing Digital Dentistry to Life

Lecture up to 2 hours, Participative up to 4 hours

Esthetics/Cosmetic Dentistry, AGD Subject Code 780

There is no doubt scanning has improved workflow and patient experience, but scanning is simply the entry point to digital dentistry—amazing workflows using design software allow you to create smile design mockups, nightguards, surgical guides and removable prostheses in a relatively short amount of time with high predictability. The primary objective of this workshop is to demonstrate how locally designing select cases can drastically increase treatment predictability and case conversion. Attendees will learn how understanding digital design workflows can lead to significant ROI within the first year, as well as have an opportunity to explore designing with exocad and printing with SprintRay.

Upon completion of this hands-on session, attendees should be able to:

• Digitally design a 6–8-unit anterior smile design, shell provisionals, and a Maryland bridge at the time of implant placement.

• Understand the benefits of printing locally.

Dr Parag Kachalia is chief clinical officer for Seattle Study Club and maintains a private practice in San Ramon, California. He is also the former vice chair of simulation, technology, and research at the University of the Pacific. In 2021 he was selected as one of the 32 most influential people in dentistry.

Conventional Restorative vs. True Inter-disciplinary Management of Esthetic and Functional Dilemmas!

Lecture up to 4.5 hours

Multidisciplinary Topics, AGD Subject Code 149

When patients present to the dentist in need of a rehabilitation, most if not all want the easiest path of treatment, the least pain, and the shortest time of treatment possible. Nobody presents to the office desiring Orthodontics or Orthognathic as part of a comprehensive restorative plan. Managing every patient presenting with esthetic and functional issues utilizing restorative and minor surgical intervention only can have dire consequences and compromises in the structural, biological, functional and esthetic results in the wrong case. It is imperative that we, as the restorative dentists, understand the ideal options for treatment, and determine if a compromised plan is acceptable or not.

Only through a systematic protocol and a thorough understanding of the advantages and limitations of all modalities of treatment can a proper plan be implemented. This lecture will focus on decision making to determine when it is acceptable to compromise, and when not.

Upon completion of this session, attendees should be able to:

• When is it acceptable to utilize restorative dentistry only in treating the complex restorative case.

• What are the options for inter-disciplinary care and when is it necessary to utilize these modalities.

• Risks associated with different treatment modalities.

Dr Tal Morr, a dentist in Aventura, Florida, is owner and founder of TMprosthodontics. He is a specialist in esthetic, implant and complex restorative dentistry. Dr Morr has more than 24 years of experience in prosthodontics and diagnosis and treatment of the deterioration of teeth and their supporting structures. He is known for his comprehensive treatment approach as he formulates and executes treatment plans that address not only the mouth, but also the face and jaw.
