Sherman Parks & Recreation Manager’s Message - Hawn Skatepark After several months of planning, the Hawn Skate Park is now open. Earlier in the year, Parks and Recreation contracted with SPA Skateparks out of Austin to design and build a new skate park at Hawn Park. SPA led two community input sessions to find out what the skateboarding community in Sherman wanted in a new Skatepark. Approximately 35 people attended each meeting and gave considerable input. SPA came back with three designs and the final design was chosen by the citizens. In June, the old Skatepark was demolished by City staff and construction began in August. The Skatepark draws a wide variety of ages and skill levels. The Skatepark is intended for skateboards, in-line skates, roller skates, scooters, and BMX freestyle bikes (with covered pegs) only. The Skatepark is equipped with lights that will turn on each evening at dark and closes at midnight each night. Users are encouraged to use helmets and other protective gear. Adult supervision is required for children under the age of 10. We hope that everyone who visits the Skatepark will realize that it is a unique Skatepark that really was the creation of the people of Sherman. Users are encouraged to take care of the park by picking up their own trash and making it a friendly and inviting area for everyone. Vandalism and graffiti will not be tolerated and will result in closure of the Skatepark for a minimum of 48 hours. Parks and Recreation is planning on hosting special events at the Skatepark in 2019. If you are interested in being a part of the planning process, please contact Parks and Rec at 903-892-7344.

Special Notes Swim Lesson Registration will start on April 1 for Sherman Residents and April 15 for Non- Residents Reserve The Splash for your Summer Party! Sherman Residents can reserve beginning May 1, and May 15 for Non- Residents
