Friday, October 11th at Tri-City Americans TAKING ON TRI-CITY: Since moving to Vancouver Island prior to the 2011-12 season, the Royals have posted a record of 16-9-5-2 against Tri-City. In nine of those games, the two teams have combined for nine or more goals. Additionally, since the 2012-13 season, every season series between the two clubs has seen at least one game decided in overtime or a shootout. BACK IN THE LINE-UP: Wednesday’s contest saw the first appearance of the season for Royals’ forward Phillip Schultz. Schultz joined the club last season after being selected by Victoria in the 2018 CHL Import Draft 38th overall. In 60 games last year, Schultz recorded 36 points (19g-17a). POWERPLAY PROWESS: On Wednesday night, Victoria recorded their first multi powerplay goal game of the season. The club went 2/4=50.0% in the contest with the man-advantage. Last season, in games in which the club scored multiple powerplay goals, the Royals went a perfect 10-0-0-0 and outscored their opponents 53-23 in those contests. STREAKING: The Royals currently have a pair of players riding three game point streaks in defenceman Jacob Herauf and forward Logan Doust. Herauf tallied an assist in Wednesday’s contest and has tallied three points (1g-2a) in that span. Doust continued his streak with the team’s second goal of the game on Wednesday. Over his last three games, he has recorded a goal and two assists. FIRST GAME: Victoria prospect Cage Newans played in his first career WHL game on Wednesday against the Silvertips. The Qualicum Beach, BC has since been returned to the Oceanside Generals of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL), where he has recorded 14 points (7g-7a) in just nine games. The 2003-born Newans was selected by the Royals in the seventh round (147th overall) in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft. PROSPECT REPORT: The Royals will have six prospects competing in this year’s WHL Cup. Jason Spizawka (BC), Kalem Parker (SK), Carter Dereniwsky (SK), Tanner Scott (AB), Brayden Schuurman (BC), and Carter Briltz (SK) will represent their respective provinces. The tournament will take place from Wednesday, October 23rd through Sunday, October 27th at the Markin MacPhail Centre in Calgary, AB. The WHL Cup is a round robin format and consists of the four provincial under-16 teams from BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
