Port Moody Police are warning people to watch out for wildlife after a cougar attacked a small dog Monday night on the city’s north shore. According to officers, the cougar picked up the pooch near Chevalier Court and Flavelle Drive and tried to carry it away but dropped the animal after the owner yelled at it. “The dog has since had surgery but is expected to make a full recovery,” PMPD said in a press release. Small children and pets should be picked up immediately and a path allowing the cougar to exit should be clear. • People should also maintain eye contact with the animal and speak to it in a loud and firm voice to “reinforce the fact that you are a human and not an easy target,” said the PMPD press release. • If a cougar does attack, people should fight back, focusing on the animal’s eyes and face. Use rocks, sticks and any personal belongings as weapons, police said.
