A letter from Garry

Summer is here at last and with it, traffic chaos at airports, railways and on the roads. What better excuse to spend some time in this fantastic area enjoying its beauty and supporting local businesses? I say that as we are ‘grounded’ due to the arrival of our new puppy ‘Freya’, a black and white working (though she is highly unlikely to ever have to work) English Spaniel. It’s fair to say she has landed well on her paws!

This time of year is always a busy period for the executive team. We are preparing to publish our annual results, financial statements, and forecasts for the future of our organisation. As we continue to work through the challenges bought by the pandemic, it is a mixed bag of results.

We remain a financially strong organisation, but we do have some challenges to resolve.

These include the back log of repairs and maintenance work and the implementation of service improvements that have been delayed over the last two years. As you know, reducing the repairs and maintenance backlog and improving our customer service are key priorities for 2022/2023.

We are working hard to get back to the high levels of performance across all areas of our organisation and I really appreciate the effort and hard work you are putting in.

We are also continuing to plan for, and learn from, projects to help us on our journey to net-zero carbon. This is an enormous and transformational task, but one in which we are making steady progress.

And of course, alongside these activities we had our inspection by the Regulator of Social Housing this month. The key activities for their review have now been completed and we are awaiting the outcome, which is due in August.

My personal conclusion is that Two Rivers Housing is a self-aware organisation that is focused on all the key issues it should be as a community-based housing association and, despite the disruption of the last two years, it continues to deliver affordable homes and services to local communities.

Furthermore, we know what needs to improve, how to improve it, and have a very capable and committed team in place to do it. I am confident about our prospects for the future and our return to being a high performing organisation.
