Wright-Ups May 2013

Confirmation Sunday May 5 Please join us in worship on Sunday, May 5, for a special day of worship and fellowship. We will be celebrating with Michael Trammell and John Schockley as they confirm their faith and join our congregation as members in their own right. Confirmation is one of the three rites of the United Church of Christ that mark turning points in the lives of our members. (The two other rites are marriage and ordination.) Also on May 5th, Jay Sanderson will deliver the message. Jay recently was recognized as a lay minister at Boise First Congregational UCC and has preached at Wright several times over the last few years. A Cinco de Mayo brunch will be served to honor our confirmands and provide a time for members to reconnect with Jay and Nina.

Search Committee Update We are excited. We are pleased with the results of the potluck and data gathering event held on April 7 following worship. The conversation was great as we discussed our dream and hopes for Wright Congregational United Church of Christ. To date we have received input from over 60 of you representing over 40 family units. If you have not had the opportunity to give your input, please do so soon. Committee members will be contacting those who have not received forms. Survey forms are also available in the church office for your use. We need to have them returned by May 1, 2013, so we can get our Church Profile completed and submitted by June 1, 2013. We will share the results with you at that time. We ask that you keep the Search Committee in your thoughts and prayers.

The Search Committee P.S. the committee will meet Monday, May 6 , May 13, and May 20 at 7 pm in the Upper Room.

W'rocking Wright – 1950’s Bash It is time to start thinking about W'rocking Wright and going back to the 50's for food, fun, old cars, silent auction, dessert auction, and games for kids of all ages. Mark your calendars now, Saturday, June 22, 2013 is the big event and annual fund raiser. The Committee will meet Monday, May 6 at 1:00 in the social hall. A flier is available in the office if you would like to take a couple and get business donations for our Silent Auction. Calling all artists – please think about donating to our W’rocking Wright Fund Raiser silent auction. All items are welcome Also, plan on donating a baked goodie (cookies, brownies, cakes, cupcakes, etc.) to our dessert auction. Yummy!

Reports and Meetings Notes from the Board God knows our hearts. God knows we have limits, and does not want us to be overwhelmed. We allow ourselves to live with joy when we realize and accept our limits. What we chose to do, we should do with our whole heart, as if we are doing this for our Lord. We are asked to carry our own load, we are not asked to carry the whole load. God will give us strength to be ourselves; we simply must listen to God and follow our own heart. We all have different gifts and talents. It takes all of our individual gifts and talents to complete the body of Christ. For example, some of us have the talent to prepare and serve our community supper. Others have the talent of caring for our Church grounds and maintaining our Church property. Others have the talent of music. Others contribute by joining our worship service. We all combine to become our Church. We need each of us to contribute in our own way, following our own hearts, cheerfully carrying our own load. Spring is upon us. We can all feel renewed and re invigorated. We are looking for volunteers to assist with our lawn care. Are you able to mow the lawn a few times over the summer? Are you able to service our lawn equipment? If so, please sign up. Also, please mark your calendar for W'rocking Wright Saturday, June 22, 2013. We have a wonderful Church, with wonderful people. Let us be gentle with each other and ourselves. Respectfully submitted, Will Patterson, Board Chair NEXT BOARD MEETING: Wednesday, May 15 at 7:00 pm in the social hall. It is important that all committee chairpersons be present – we need your input. If you are unable to make the meetings please send a committee member with any reports you may have. Each committee should have at least one member besides the chair. Please let the office know who your committee people are in case we are unable to reach the chairperson.

THANK YOU To everyone who brought their treasures for the Rummage Sale and to everyone who helped to set up, sort, sell, tear down, and clean up. The rummage sale brought in a total of $487.63 for the Women’s Fellowship. AND THANK YOU Thanks also to Flowerama for allowing us to place our sign on their property and donating balloons to draw attention to the sign and to the Idaho Youth Ranch for picking up our leftovers. The cinnamon rolls and coffee that we sold during the rummage sale were a big hit and cleared $88.00. Thank you Ethel Farnsworth for donating the rolls and thank you to Julie Patterson and family for preparing and baking the rolls. For $1.00 you got a cup of coffee and a cinnamon roll. This event was a lot of fun as it allowed us to sit and chat over coffee with the people who came by. AND THANK YOU, TOO! Finally we made the cook books available for sale during the rummage sale. Thank you to everyone who submitted recipes and a big thanks to Mary Ellen Parsons for typing all the recipes, the graphics, organizing it and to Dale Parsons – I understand he tested all the recipes and especially recommends Jane Eubanks' “Best Ever Rum Cake”. You really need to read through the book, besides recipes from congregational members there are also a lot of helpful hints – like how to clean your corset. The first printing of 50 has sold out with orders for more. There will be a second printing before the Wright Ups goes to press so if you did not get one there should be some more available. The proceeds from the sale of the Recipe Books will go directly to the General Fund. They are on sale for $10.00. Again my thanks to everyone who has made these events successful and worked so hard to help Wright Church and its ministries. Janice Aagaard President, Women’s Fellowship
