ONE of the biggest events in the Tresor Paris calendar so far this year was the Press Launch of the Nouveau Hexagone watch collection. Held at Jack Barclay Bentley showroom in Berkley Square, London, the event was a spectacular affair. The supercar showroom proved to be a fantastic venue for the evening of indulgence. With sparkling black and white tiled flooring, skyhigh ceilings and of course two spectacular Bentley’s taking pride of place in the windows, it was sure to be a glamorous event. Tresor Paris Sparkles at the Jewellery & Watch Birmingham 2014

T

his year’s Jewellery & Watch Birmingham was yet another huge success for Tresor Paris. Occupying one of the exhibitions largest stalls, Tresor Paris put on a lavish display of sparkle and indulgence, complete with a scaled-down replica of the iconic Eiffel Tower. As always, the Parisian themed stand was one of the busiest throughout the exhibition, attracting a vast array of guests and keeping the Tresor Paris team on their toes. Jewellery & Watch Birmingham is a unique event, not only is it one of the biggest jewellery exhibitions in the Tresor Paris calendar, but it is also linked to a major gift fair; Spring Fair International. With a total of 372 exhibitors at the February event, it was the perfect opportunity for Tresor Paris to network with existing and potential clients alike. Throughout the week, guests were treated to a chocolate fountain, complete with tasty treats to ensure that visiting the Tresor Paris stall was an experience they would be unlikely to forget. To complete the experience there was a bar stocked with soft drinks under the shadow of the Eiffel Tower. The stand was buzzing with excitement as the wheel of fortune spun, raising money for charities and awarding lucky winners with prizes. One of the first generous donors and lucky winners was the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Mike Leddy. Over the course of the exhibition, Tresor Paris raised nearly £600 for Children in Need, Breast Cancer Care and Marie Curie Cancer Care. The catwalk show was a highlight for all those who attended. Tresor Paris of course featured some beautiful pieces in

the catwalk, including two of the Nouveau Hexagone collection watches. The Noblesse earrings from the Pegasus collection and the Eclat Argent and Eclat Rose rings from the Bellatrix collection were also a huge hit on the catwalk. A pretty flower ring from the Pegasus collection and a stunning Renaissance Tandem Rose bracelet also glistened beautifully under the catwalk light. However, it was the bespoke 1920s inspired Gloriole Rose shoulder piece that truly stole the show. Combining the outstanding craftsmanship that Tresor Paris prides themselves on, with the use of a variety of gorgeous materials, this is an aweinspiring and unique piece. Jewellery & Watch Birmingham 2014 was the perfect opportunity for Tresor Paris to showcase their new collections to existing and potential new clients. The new crystal collection, including the 16 Hearts and Arrows jewellery which features a unique cut to ensure that each piece truly glistens in every light, was extremely well received by existing and potential clients. The Nouveau Hexagone collection of timepieces were exhibited for the first time and received an amazing reception from all guests. Finally, the new Iris diamonds were a definite crowd favourite. Incorporating precious materials including black fresh water pearls and black agate, the stunning diamond collection is truly special. The beautiful and unique Ebène collection, featuring a natural black diamond ring, necklace and pair of stud earrings, really caught the attention of everyone who saw them.

The Beauty of Art What is most challenging about being a mixed media artist? Explaining what mixed media is to everyone including other mixed media artists. Everyone has a very different idea of what that is. For example, I know a lot of fine artists who consider themselves ‘purists’ and would sneer at me for combining computer graphics with traditional media ie. Pen, watercolour, ink, colour pencils. I’d say the insular snobbery from some artists, and the confused look from others. The art itself is never challenging, every step is a pleasure. Art is enjoyable. Hoity toity attitudes is what makes it unpleasant. What do you wish you knew about mixed media before you got started? That everyone would ask me questions about what I consider mixed media, and then offer unsolicited opinions on how I categorize or should categorize my work. Haha. What is your creative process like? I pile on as many elements as I can think off into one sketch and slowly subtract things until it starts to look like something. Like a sculptor who doesn’t make figures out of marble but instead takes away the marble from around the figure inside the block. What do you believe is a key element in creating a good mixed media piece? Not overdoing it. There is the temptation to slap on as many elements, layers, little things as possible. You have to have restraint or the whole thing will look like a Frankenstein’s monster. What is the coolest art tip you have ever received? This isn’t actually a tip but a quote by Andy Warhol that I love so much that I’ve saved it in my folder of inspiring messages to myself: “Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.” and of course the famous lines by Ira Glass on The Gap: “Nobody tells this to people who are beginners...All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But

Left: Artist Jasiminne Yip poses next to her artwork at the Nouveau Hexagone Launch. Below from Left to Right: Platinum Moon, Beryl Celeste, Rose Quartz Star and Onyx Night

there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit...We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work...It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions...It’s gonna take awhile. It’s normal to take a while. You’ve just gotta fight your way through.” What is your favorite watch from the Nouveau Hexagone collection? Onyx Night (black Precision Chronograph with black leather straps)! It’s so dark and sleek. Can I have one? What was the most challenging aspect of creating the watch pictures? Getting all the different elements I had in my head to come

together in a way that looks cohesive, natural, and balanced. Not easy when you have a thousand things you want to throw in; “Oh here’s some watercolour and gold leaf foil texture I found, I want to scan in and include it somewhere, maybe overlay it under a line pattern of cogs and wheels inverted into two colours, how about some film grain to pull it all together? Ooooooh I want to use this crumpled wrapping paper too! Where can I squash it in?” Describe your artistic style is 3 words. Layered, detailed, and unexpected.

Day with Elyar Fox V

alentine’s Day was extra special for a few lucky Tresor Paris fans this year, not only did they get to spend a night, with a friend, in London in a 3 star hotel and a £250 voucher to spend on Tresor Paris jewellery, but they got to meet pop star Elyar Fox. The winners were Diana Semionova, Felicity Challender, birthday girl Ella Cotton and her mother Sarah. The competition, held in association with Capital FM, proved to be extremely popular with Tresor Paris and Elyar Fox fans. With such a fantastic prize, the competition winners were obviously extremely excited. Gathered in the Capital FM studios, the winners eagerly awaited Elyar’s arrival and they were not disappointed. After spending time with their favourite musician and asking him all their burning questions, it was sadly time for the girls to say goodbye. Elyar was of course wearing his favourite Tresor Paris jewellery, including the Hardi

skull bracelet and the Liesse Blanc crystal and black agate bracelet. Tresor Paris favourite Elyar is a British pop singer, musician and songwriter. Over the past few months, Tresor Paris has been keeping a keen eye on Elyar and predicts great things to come from him. His debut single ‘Do It All Over Again’, released in January 2014, peaked at number 5 in the UK Singles Chart. At the age of only 18, Elyar has already established himself in the UK music industry

and has a new single coming out soon, as well as supporting The Wanted alongside The Vamps on their arena tour. He has also been nominated for UK Favourite Breakthrough Act at the 2014 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award, alongside The Vamps, Little Nikki and Neon Jungle. Good luck Elyar! With Elyar’s debut album due to be released in the summer of 2014, he has a very busy and exciting year ahead of him and Tresor Paris cannot wait to hear more from him.

The Nouveau Hexagone The Nouveau Hexagone collection was so named because of the six fantastic features each watch incorporates to make it different from all other watches in the market. Firstly, every watch features a faceted cut glass face, something that every guest admired when viewing the watches. Secondly, the timepieces are Swiss-made to ensure fantastic time keeping. Thirdly, all the watches are made using exceptional quality materials, which is clear to see just from looking at them. Fourthly, the interchangeable bezels are one of the most remarkable features of the Nouveau Hexagone watches and they can completely change the way they look. Fifthly, with at least one diamond in every timepiece, they are guaranteed to sparkle. Finally, to ensure that the watches not only look fantastic but are also extremely functional, the watches are water resistant up to 100 metres. With six excellent reasons to purchase a Nouveau Hexgone timepiece, the only question left is when are you buying yours?

the exquisite watches. The two male models were dressed head to toe in Patrick Hellmann, the women in sparkling sequin dresses and of course their outfits were completed with an exquisite Tresor Paris timepiece. Celebrity guests including Professor Green, Uri Geller, Boyzone members Shane Lynch and Keith Duffy, Phats and Small Ben Ofoedu, DCI Banks actor Ray Panthaki and former Eastenders star Michael Greco were in attendance. It was lovely to see the celebrities come out in force to support Tresor Paris. Most people did not recognise Shane, with his new beard, although he is definitely right on trend with his bushy beard, whilst Uri Geller kept guests entertained with his jaw-dropping spoon bending skills! Honestly, no matter how many times the Tresor Paris team witnesses this, it never gets old! Leo the Lion, former The Streets member, current The Voice contestant and rumoured boyfriend of none other than Kylie Minogue was also spotted at the launch party. Singer/Songwriter Jonny Winston gave a spine-tingling performance. Magician Josh Brett exhibited some of his awe-inspiring tricks throughout the evening whilst Will Cozens of Capital FM DJ’ed the event. As the evening drew on, and we suspect the cocktails began to have an affect, some of the celebrities, in particular the guys from Boyzone, began throwing some serious moves on the dance floor! The new watch collection was extremely well received by all guests and after trying on a variety of the timepieces, they seemed enchanted by the beautiful designs. To top off the fantastic evening, each guest was treated to a goody bag full of luxurious gifts including Hanley’s Confectionary chocolates, Lee Stafford hair products, Kryolan makeup, Retrocorn popcorn, Crabtree and Evelyn Handcream, Invisibobbles, Dalit soap and

candles, a Tresor Paris pen, USB stick, and a postcard featuring a bespoke artwork of a Nouveau Hexagone watch by Jasiminne Yip. It is not long to wait now, the watches will be released for pre-order on the Tresor Paris website 2nd April 2014 and will be available to purchase from stockists worldwide in May. Keep updated with all the latest Nouveau Hexagone news by checking the Tresor Paris website, Facebook, twitter and blog regularly.

young people to live healthily. In 2012 the JLS Foundation was re-launched and joined forces with Cancer Research UK with the aim of raising £2million to fund research into cancers affecting children, teenagers and young adults. The ultimate aim of this collaboration is to bring forward the day when all youth cancers are cured. In January this year, Tresor Paris partnered with Capital FM for a cheque presentation of the proceeds from the ‘Capital Rocks’ event. Former JLS member, current Capital FM presenter and host of BBC One’s The Voice, Marvin Humes was on hand to accept the

cheque, worth an amazing £23,859.40, from Tresor Paris on behalf of the JLS Foundation. The money raised will be used to bring better and kinder treatments to children with cancer across the UK. Tresor Paris recently collaborated with the JLS Foundation to create a collection of jewellery. Ranging in price from £10 – £39, this collection features lilac or purple coloured crystal designs. 25% of the price of each item of jewellery is donated to the JLS foundation. As he accepted the cheque, Marvin was wearing a bracelet from the JLS Foundation collection from Tresor Paris and it looked perfect!

The Great Daffodil Appeal IN November 2013, Tresor Paris were headline sponsors for the ‘Capital Rocks’ charity event at The Roundhouse in London. The annual event was held to raise money for Capital’s Help a Capital Child, a charity that supports young people affected by a variety of issues across the UK, and the benefactors of the evening; the JLS Foundation. The sold out event attracted an impressive array of celebrities including Little Mix, Jessie J, Eliza Doolittle, Lawson, and of course JLS as well as many more. After being greeted with a tropical cocktail from London nightclub Mahiki, guests were treated to an evening of fundraising and fantastic entertainment. Hosted by Marvin Humes and Capital London Breakfast show presenters Dave Berry and Lisa Snowdon, the evening was a sparkling success. Along with watching some amazing performances, guests were given the chance to win one of the over 200 prizes donated by Tresor Paris. One lucky guest even went home with a bespoke crystal covered digital radio after purchasing it for over £3,000 in the auction. Set up in 2010 by the four members of JLS; Aston, JB, Marvin and Oritsé, the JLS Foundation has three main objectives. Firstly, they aim to improve lives, leading to brighter and better futures for all. Secondly, they want to increase awareness and education in young people in the benefits of leading active, healthy lives. Finally, the foundation funds projects which are close to their hearts and support issues that affect JLS fans – now and in the future. The boys from JLS wanted to use their fame to inspire the next generation to learn about important health issues and in doing so, they aim to excite, energise and empower

Princess Diana ‘The People’s Princess’

W

Régalien Bleu, Sterling Silver Cristal Necklace, Tresor Paris £89.00

12 | First Quarter issue

ith worldwide fame throughout her life, and a lasting legacy that the British public refuse to forget, Princess Diana was truly ‘the People’s Princess’. Born 1st July 1961 in Sandringham to the then Viscount and Viscountess Althorp, the former Lady Diana Spencer was a neighbour of the Royal family and therefore had known Prince Charles for years before they announced their engagement. The wedding was a spectacular affair held at St Paul’s Cathedral in London on 29th July 1981 and was attended by crowned heads from all over the world. Approximately 1 billion people watched the wedding on television. Diana’s wedding dress became infamous over time, featuring antique lace and a 25 foot train of ivory silk taffeta, it was, at the time, one of fashion’s most guarded secrets. Princess Diana was renowned for her sense of style and throughout her life was closely associated with the fashion world. As a royal, she was expected to wear British designers in order to boost the economy. However, after her highly publicised divorce from Prince Charles, Dianna began to experiment more with her fashion sense and was often pictured in dresses that were a lot more daring than her previous outfits. Since her death, Princess Diana’s dresses have become even more infamous and at various auctions have reached jaw-dropping prices, including a blue and blush pink strapless dress by Catherine Walker that reached $50,000. The midnight blue Victor Edelstein evening gown that she wore the night she memorably danced with John Travolta sold for a staggering £240,000 at an auction in March 2013. It was not only her fashion sense that propelled Diana to become an icon, but also her amazing collection of jewellery. As a princess, it was inevitable that Diana would have an enviable collection of jewellery. The most obvious of which is her collection of tiaras. Although, one of the most memorable pieces of her collection and one that she was repeatedly pictured wearing was the Spencer family tiara, belonging not to the Royal family, but to Diana’s own aristocratic family. The beautiful piece features diamonds in silver settings, mounted in gold in floral shapes including stylised tulips and star-shaped flowers. Diana was also given the Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara to wear by the Queen but she found this heavier and therefore more uncomfortable than the Spencer tiara. Diana also became known for adapting her jewellery to match her own unique style, as was the case with two chokers that she wore around her head to create a dramatic look. Throughout her life, Diana was pictured wearing some truly magnificent pieces of jewellery featuring countless diamond, pearl and every other precious stone you could imagine. Finally, Princess Diana spent many years throughout her short life focused on her charitable work. Whilst married, she was a patron to over 100 charities and she

continued to focus her efforts on working with charities after her divorce. The Princess of Wales was famous for changing the public opinion of HIV/AIDS sufferers and in 1987 she became the first-high profile celebrity to be photographed touching a person with the HIV virus. Perhaps most notably was her work as a campaigner for a ban on the manufacture and use of land mines. In 1997, she memorably visited Angola where she was pictured wearing a flak jacket and ballistic helmet for protection. It is clear to see the legacy that was left by Princess Diana, from her engagement ring being passed onto the Duchess of Cambridge, to the Diana Memorial Foundation in Hyde Park, to Prince Harry visiting an Angolan minefield. If you love Diana’s style, take a look at the Bellatrix collection to get a similar style for yourself. The Régalien Bleu, Souverain Bleu and Altesse Bleu are sure to make you feel like a princess yourself!

How long have you been working at Tresor Paris? I started in September last year as an Intern, and have been working full time since January this year, so I am the newbie at the moment. What do you like most about the jewellery business? I love how fast paced it is in the jewellery industry, there is always a deadline to meet and always something important to be done. However, most of all, it is fantastic to be working in a industry that I am really passionate about. What are the highlights of your job? I love working in a small team because you can see all the different aspects coming together and I get to actually see how my work makes a difference. Where do you see yourself in five years time? I think the brand is unique because it can be suitable for every person, for every occasion. Many celebrities have come into the Tresor Paris showroom, who are your favourites? Well, they didn’t come into the showroom, but I would have to say Keith Duffy and Shane Lynch. They attended our Nouveau Hexagone launch party and were just so lovely and so much fun! What is your favourite piece of Tresor Paris jewellery and why? Ahh I knew that one was coming! There are just so many to choose from! Although I have to say I really love some of the pieces from the new crystal collection. The Lys Argent necklace, bracelet, ring and earrings are really unique and would look amazing this Spring!

he current winter season has been a sparkling affair for Tresor Paris. Having sponsored both Ice Rink Canary Wharf and the Westfield London Ice Rink, the Tresor Paris team have become fairly accomplished ice skaters. November 2013 saw the press launch of the Westfield London Ice Rink. Celebrity guests were greeted with a glass of champagne and canapés, and for those who wanted to, there was a chance to go and meet Father Christmas. The magical evening was topped off with amazing performances from Burlesque on Ice and Jack Topping. Along with the fantastic indoor ice rink, located in the Atrium, there was a Tresor Paris pop-up boutique. With the entire Tresor Paris collection in stock, there was something for everyone. Proving ever popular, the shop was a roaring success, particularly with all those eager Christmas shoppers. On the other side of London, Tresor Paris also had great fun at Ice Rink Canary Wharf. Not content with simply sponsoring the ice rink, Tresor Paris decided to attempt to break the world record for longest conga on ice. The event, held in aid of BBC Children in Need was a huge success, and with the help of 352 skaters, Tresor Paris broke the world record. Tresor Paris have created a collection of BBC Children in Need Jewellery, with 25% of the product retail price going directly to the charity. With every piece featuring a Pudsey bear with a sparkling Tresor Paris crystal in the centre, there is no better way to show your support for BBC Children in Need. When guests stepped off the ice at Ice Rink Canary Wharf, they were given the opportunity to warm up in the Tresor Paris pop-up shop. Although not content with the fantastic array of crystal jewellery, a couple of shoppers each purchased a show-stopping Tresor Paris crystal skull. One of the highlights of Ice Rink Canary Wharf had to be the amazing skate path that takes you through twinkling trees, the only of its kind in the UK.
