Welcome Replacement heifer inventory is at the lowest that it has been in decades. It will take a few years to build those inventories back to acceptable numbers that can supply the demand. For us as beef producers, especially as cow/ calf producers this indicates a favorable and strong market for us in the next few years. None of us have a crystal ball, but the future for us has a bright outlook for a few years. Our profit margins are on the rise and input costs are coming down some. There couldn’t be a better time to input new genetics into your program and increase your herd. Over the years we have seen more and more producers recognizing the value and profitability of strong genetics and a closely managed herd. of our business. Each mating that we produce has combinations that provide opportunity’s to meet certain goals. The embryos offered in this sale provide some of the strongest possibility of herd building genetics that we have offered in quiet some time. Calving ease EPDs represent the ease with which progeny of an animal are born to first calf heifers. The EPD is expressed as a percent probability, with a higher value representing calves with a higher probability of being born unassisted.

Stayability (Stay) The Stay EPD reflects differences in the probability that a sire’s daughters will remain in production to produce 3 consecutive calves when retained as breeding heifers.

Birth Weight (BW) Birth weight is an indicator of calving ease. Higher birth weight EPDs usually indicates more calving difficulty.

Cow Weight (CW) The Cow WT EPD reflects differences in the mature weight of a sire’s daughters. This is important as it is related to maintenance energy requirements.

Weaning Weight (WW) The weaning EPD reflects progeny growth differences up to 205-days.

Yield grade (YG): Differences in yield grade score, which is a predictor of percent retail product. Smaller values suggest that progeny will have a better lean-to fat ratio.

Yearling Weight (YW) The yearling EPD reflects progeny growth differences through to 365-days.

RibEye Area (CREA) The REA EPD reflects differences in rib-eye area carcass measures in feeder progeny.

Milk The (milk) EPD indicates the ability of a sire’s daughters to provide their calves with an environment that encourages growth from birth to weaning, through mothering ability and milk production. This EPD is expressed in the expected difference in pounds of calf at weaning.

Marbling (MARB) The MARB EPD reflects differences in carcass measures of marbling in feeder progeny, using USDA marbling scores.

Total Maternal (TM) Also known as Milk + Growth, this EPD combines the milk EPD plus ½ the weaning weight EPD. It is expressed in pounds of calf weaned at 205-days and combines the genetics for preweaning growth and the influence of the maternal environment on the weaning weight of the daughter’s progeny. Calving Ease Maternal (CEM) Calving Ease Maternal EPD represents the ease with which a sire’s daughters will calve as first calf heifers, when compared to daughters of other sires. The EPD is expressed as a percent probability, with a higher value representing daughters with a higher probability of unassisted calving.

Fat (CFAT): Differences for fat thickness, in inches, for a carcass over the 12th rib, smaller numbers of fat thickness are preferable as excess fat can be detrimental to yield grade. Cattle is how we make our living, and our herd health, conception rate, and performance is what makes us money. We simply can’t afford problems that can be prevented and improved on by a good mineral program. We have been using Gro-tec mineral and fly control for 8 years. Since that time the 3 areas that I mentioned have improved remarkably. When you compare the Gro-tec label, quality, of ingredients and the consumption rate to other minerals, you just can’t beat it. You might pay a few dollars more up front for a bag, but your actual cost in the long run will be cheaper than most minerals that are usually not anywhere close to providing you with a complete mineral that will cover your cattle’s needs. If you’re not on a mineral program and in the cattle business, I don’t care what anyone says you’re making a mistake. In my opinion if you’re not using Gro-tec you’re leaving money on the table.
