The following day, at the same venue, the annual church garden fete was declared open at midday. All the stalls were set out in the marquee, this year to protect from the hot sun and not the usual rain and chilly breezes. Stainton Wood Turners displayed their beautiful carved items; Amanda Smalley had a wonderful range of handmade crafts

The warm sunshine contributed to the lovely evening some seventy-plus people spent on Friday 22nd June. We provided our own food and drink, this included Chinese takeaways for some party goers (“What a good idea!” thought some others who had taken the more usual picnic fayre), all washed down with wine or something stronger! The Force provided the music, a very lively group who played music and sang songs from the 70s era up to the present time. There was a chance to win a bottle of malt whiskey and

No garden fete is complete without its tombola stall, the usual lucky tickets ending in zero or five was very popular and there were some excellent prizes. There was a good selection of books on the book stall for the many people who enjoy reading. Kettlethorpe WI put on a display of their craftwork, walks and activities, WI news and magazine. Centre stage was the WI photo album, photos taken over the past few years of their events and this year Kettlethorpe WI celebrates its 45th birthday. LIVES were in attendance promoting the excellent role they play helping to save lives in Lincolnshire. Paul Sturgess visits Newton on Trent Church of England Primary School

on Trent Church of England Primary School on Wednesday 6th June with Mark Waters as part of a ‘Basketball Wow Day’. Mark and Paul spent the day teaching a range of basketball skills to each class and shared some very important messages during their assembly. They encouraged the children to eat healthily, exercise and adopt a positive approach to their school life, identifying their own strengths and skills and realise that everyone has an important role to play in the various communities they belong to.

Headteacher, Mrs Alyson Bristow, explained that the day helped to promote the school’s vision of ‘Aiming High, Enjoying the Journey’. ‘We are delighted to welcome Paul and Mark who are bringing such positive messages for our children. They certainly put the ‘Wow’ into the day and the children loved every minute of it.’

Details: The traditional hotel will be converted into a one-stop shopping event from 10:30am to 6pm each day. Visitors will be able to browse over 70 stands which include Christmas Cakes, Festive Foods, Jewellery, Gifts and the infamous book room. Hot food and drinks will be on hand alongside live seasonal music to keep visitors refreshed and entertained, while wares including the charity’s Christmas cards, tea-cup and bowl gift sets will be on sale.
