From Princess Diana’s signature blue eyeliner to the crazy looks pulled on the runways, colored eyeliner has long been a go-to for makeup artists to really make the eyes pop. And Wwith spring just around the corner, now is the perfect time to add some fun color to your makeup collection! The right color not only stands alone for an easy, one-step eye look, but will also make your eye color stand out and shine. Choosing an eyeliner color involves many factors depending on the effect an indvidualyou wants to have. For a statement look, black will always be a staple and compliments most eye makeup, however white is an equally forgiving color to play with. Makeup artist Michael Ashton, calls white eyeliner the secret weapon of every makeup artist. He says using it on the waterline makes the eyes more open, and bright, and replacing your normal black cat eye with white will make theyour lashes appear fuller. Willow Smith has also brought the bright look back into popularity during her appearance at Dior’s most recent Spring/ Summer Haute Couture show. Eye color is also another factor you can emphasize with colored eyeliner. In many respects, the color wheel is very helpful for choosing the right color for your eyes as it identifies the colors opposite each other. Makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury, strongly recommends copper and gold liners for blue eyes, as well as warm metallics to brighten the eyes. Colors with red undertones, such as garnet and bronze really help green eyes pop, however Tilbury recommends lining with black first to prevent the red making the eyes look tired. Amethyst purple is also a suggested color for green eyes. Brown eyes look especially good with midnight blue, as the dark shade brings out the light specks in the eyes. Earth tones and mink gray are also particularly flattering. FAnd for hazel eyes, Tilbury recommends emerald green, gold, and plum to really make the green color in hazel shine. (This paragraph is a bit long, could I separate it into small chunks for each eye color? Or is that too many short bits? I can definitely talk more about each eye color if I need to.) Metallic shades are another idea to consider when playing with colorful liner. Metallics are perfect for a subtler approach to colored liner while still allowing your eye look to shine.
