Spot on...
Michele Ross is a classic example of the woman who liked the business so much she bought it. Formerly a PA and events manager with the Society for Underwater Technology, she’d been an enthusiastic client of The Yoga Spot in Aberdeen.
Participants can practise all levels of power yoga - derived from the Ashtanga Vinyasa system - from beginner to serious enthusiast, Mysore and Vinyasa Flow classes.
When the owner Gill McClean decided to sell up, Michele resolved to give up her job and take over the business herself.
The Yoga Spot, the only West End yoga studio, also offers pregnancy yoga, has a small, private studio for individual clients and runs regular workshops with renowned practitioners leading exercises and lecturing on anatomy and physiology.
Now she’s a full-time yoga instructor with her own studio, taking nine classes a week plus private clients, supported by a team of regular instructors including Jodi, Holly and Siobhan. Not bad for someone who never considered taking up yoga until just two years ago. Previously a gym fanatic and runner, it was only when she suffered constant injuries that it was suggested that the discipline might help. After a couple of classes she was hooked. “I fell in love with it and a few months later I started coming to The Yoga Spot. I then did teacher training and knew I wanted to teach.” Discovering that the business was for sale was pure serendipity - the chance to merge business with pleasure. In the cool, tranquil studio in Ruthrie Terrace, where early morning sessions are often accompanied by birdsong, she offers a wide range of classes throughout the day, evenings and weekends. 26
It also houses the Deeside Treatment Studio, where Holly Scotchburn-Snell offers osteopathy, sports and remedial massage and pregnancy massage. The Yoga Spot 1a Ruthrie Terrace, Aberdeen, AB10 7JY E: michele@the yogaspot.co.uk M: 07745 929660 www.theyogaspot.co.uk
