Perché è una Tav senza indugi... Un uomo solo al comando, il suo ciuffo non è ancora grigio, il suo nome è … Mauro Tavella. Si fanno tante riunioni al Fuoristrada Club 4x4 Pordenone, più o meno allargate, da un ristretto G4 per le cose strettamente confidenziali, a un più vasto G7, G8, G9 e via elencando quando gli argomenti riguardano una vasta platea di persone. Ma poi funziona una specie di “centralismo democratico”, nel quale una decisione viene presa a maggioranza e poi tutti si impegnano a rispettarla. Solo che la decisione suprema la prende (quasi sempre) l’organizzatore supremo di Italian Baja, viene avallata con un consenso plenario ed è questo il motivo per cui gli indugi sono davvero pochi e la corsa avanza ogni anno come un incessante fuoristrada.

Because it deals on a Tav without delay... One man in command, his quiff didn’t become grey yet, his name is … Mauro Tavella. Meetings are always on the agenda, at the Fuoristrada Club 4x4 Pordenone, involving more or less people, from a close G4 when dealing on the most confidential things, to a wider G7, G8, G9 and so on, when arguments concern more people. Then a sort of “democratic centralism”, as each decision is made by the majority and everybody then commits to respecting it. But the supreme decision is made (almost always) by the supreme organizer of the Italian Baja, confirmed by a full approval and this is why there are really few delays and the race advances year by year like an incessant off-road vehicle.

■ È un piccolo, grande miracolo quello che ogni anno si rinnova in Friuli, dove un gruppo straordinario di professionisti e di appassionati, riuniti nel Fuoristrada club 4x4 Pordenone e guidati dall’infaticabile Mauro Tavella, riescono a far disputare, in mezzo a mille difficoltà, una delle prove più interessanti della Coppa del Mondo FIA Cross Country Rally, ovvero l’Italian Baja. La gara delle gare che si corre sui greti dei fiumi, giunta ormai alla sua ventiseiesima edizione, è proprio per questo universalmente apprezzata dagli specialisti del settore che, come ogni anno, giungono in massa da ogni parte del mondo. Sfida bella, ostica, ma soprattutto un evento ormai radicato profondamente nei cuori della gente del luogo, che viene coinvolta anche direttamente con riordini e cerimonie particolari nei vari punti più interessanti del territorio. Un mix sapiente di grande evento sportivo e grande vetrina di un contesto straordinario, fa di Italian Baja uno dei fiori all’occhiello dell’attività sportiva dell’Automobile Club d’Italia. Non mi resta quindi che dare il benvenuto a tutti i piloti ed i team protagonisti dell’evento e ringraziare tutti quelli, donne e uomini di ACI Sport, Forse dell’Ordine, Soccorritori e Autorità locali, che hanno contribuito e contribuiranno con la loro presenza, alla riuscita della manifestazione.

■ It can be considered a little big miracle the one which year by year is reconfirmed in Friuli, where an extraordinary team made by experts and people fond of this specialty and belonging to the Fuoristrada club 4x4 Pordenone, is led by the tireless Mauro Tavella and despite difficulties able to let dispute one of the most interesting Legs of the FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rally, that’s to say the Italian Baja. The big challenge developing along the riverbeds, now at its 26th edition, is for this reason Internationally appreciated by experts, copiously coming every year from all over the World. A nice challenge, hard, but above all an event deeply rooted in the heart of local people, involuntary involved in the race thanks to regrouping and particular ceremonies taking part in the most interesting places of the Land. A competent mix of a great sport event and a wide showcase in an extraordinary context, allowing the Italian Baja to be considered a pride of the Automobile Club d’Italia. It is now time to welcome all protagonists of the event, pilots and teams, and thank all people who contributed and will contribute with their presence in the success of the event, ACI Sport women and men, Law Enforcement, Emergency Staff and Local authorities.

■ Appuntamento fisso nel calendario regionale sin dal lontano 1993, Italian Baja rappresenta un momento importante non solo per gli appassionati di motori ma per tutto il Friuli Venezia Giulia che, grazie al prezioso lavoro degli organizzatori, beneficia di una vetrina di assoluto prestigio a livello internazionale. Il successo della kermesse è dunque una vittoria per il territorio, che ancora una volta saprà farsi conoscere e, ne sono certo, apprezzare per le sue molte qualità - paesaggistiche, culturali ed enogastronomiche - che lo rendono unico e, agli occhi dei turisti, indimenticabile. Buon divertimento!

■ Since 1993 the Italian Baja represents a fixed date in the regional calendar and an important moment, not just for all motor’s fans, but for the whole region Friuli Venezia Giulia, which takes advantage of organizers’ work through an International prestigious showcase. The success of the kermes represents therefore a victory for our Land, which once more will be able to show its many qualities, I am sure deeply appreciated - landscapes, culture, food and wine – which make it appear as a unique and unforgettable tourist destination. ■ Appuntamento fisso nel calendario regionale sin dal lontano 1993, Italian Baja, la prova di Coppa del Mondo FIA Cross Country Bajas che si corre sul nostro territorio, è l’ennesima dimostrazione che abbiamo ottimi organizzatori che godono della più completa fiducia della Federazione. Se la pianificazione di questo importante evento automobilistico è affidata in continuità allo staff di Fuoristrada Club 4x4 significa che i piloti di livello mondiale apprezzano particolarmente la qualità e le caratteristiche tecniche dei percorsi approntati. Abbiamo un tessuto produttivo fortemente votato all’innovazione, che ben si coniuga con la ricerca tecnologica, per cui associare lo sport, il divertimento e lo stimolo competitivo con la modernità e il progresso, rappresenta una perfetta sintesi del dinamismo del nostro territorio. ■ A fixed date in the regional calendar since 1993, the Italian Baja, the World Cup race for the FIA Cross Country Bajas which takes place in our Land, demonstrates once more that we dispose on very good organizers, who benefit from the trust of the Federation. As the planning of this important event is still entrusted to the staff of the Fuoristrada Club 4x4, it means that World champions appreciate especially both qualities and technical characteristics of those tracks. Our Land really has a gift for producing and innovation and it is easy therefore to combine also technologic researches; the association of sport, fun and competitive stimulus with modernity and progress represents a perfect summary of the dynamism of our Land. The City Administration invests enormous resources in sport, as it consider it above all a stimulating exercise not just for young people, but also a promoting instrument able to spread the image of highlights and characteristics of our Land. Una vetrina per la regione Friuli Venezia Giulia, un “motore di ricerca” che fa conoscere le nostre indubbie prerogative: lavoro, serietà, competenza e ospitalità.

Since long time this programmatic frame has been perfectly including the Italian Baja, the event of the FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rally which since over 25 years involves an International audience composed by fans of the OffRoad specialty. The race this year will involve a wide area, with start and arrival line in Pordenone, a race faced along the Tagliamento riverbed also along its right bank and a sumptuous parade in Lignano Pineta with regrouping in Brugnera. A showcase for the region Friuli Venezia Giulia, a “search engine” revealing our affirmed qualities: work ethic, seriousness, competence and hospitality.

■ Rivolgo il mio personale saluto all’Italian Baja e a tutti gli organizzatori di questa manifestazione sportiva di altissimo livello e in continua crescita. Eventi come questi rappresentano un volano per l’economia regionale e garantiscono una grande visibilità alla Regione non esclusivamente collegata all’evento sportivo in sé ma come vetrina per i numerosi visitatori e i media nazionaliinternazionali che riescono a far conoscere, attraverso i propri strumenti di comunicazione, le bellezze naturalistiche, paesaggistiche e artistiche di un territorio ricchissimo come quello della Destra Tagliamento. ■ I wish to personally greet the Italian Baja and all organizers, able to offer a highlight sport event, improving it year by year. Such an event represents a springboard for the regional economy and guarantees to the region great visibility, not just referred to the sport event, but considering it a showcase addressed both to the many visitors and to the National and International Media which are able to spread through their communication instruments the beauty of a Land, in terms of nature, landscapes and art, as represented by the right bank of the Tagliamento river. The Italian Baja demonstrates how such a highlight International event can be organized also in our region and I really hope we will go on in the excellent direction we decided to follow since long time.

■ Un evento che unisce i più grandi professionisti del fuoristrada a livello internazionale in una competizione che toccherà diversi luoghi della nostra regione: è questo l’appuntamento con Italian Baja nella gara friulana valida quale terzo round della FIA World Cup for Cross Country Bajas ed anche del Campionato Italiano Cross Country. Fra le manifestazioni sportive della nostra regione, Italian Baja è sicuramente tra quelle di punta, grazie anche al numero dei partecipanti e del pubblico proveniente sia dall’Italia che dall’estero. Non a caso Italian Baja è il terzo evento nazionale automobilistico dopo la Formula 1 a Monza e il Mondiale Rally che si tiene in Sardegna. Un’occasione non solo per valorizzare il grande sport, ma anche per promuovere il nostro territorio e le nostre peculiarità. Base della manifestazione sarà la Fiera di Pordenone, mentre il tracciato di gara toccherà principalmente la sponda sinistra del Tagliamento, facendo passerella anche a Lignano Pineta e Brugnera. Agli organizzatori va il mio migliore augurio per la riuscita della manifestazione, così come ai partecipanti ed a tutto il pubblico porgo il mio più sentito saluto, sperando che con l’occasione possano rinnovare la soddisfazione e l’affezione verso il Friuli Venezia Giulia.

■ An event which brings together the greatest International rally drivers in a competition involving several parts of our region: this is the ”Italian Baja”, the race valid as third round both of the “FIA World Cup for Cross Country Bajas” and the Italian “Rally Cross ACI Sport” Championship, taking place in the region Friuli Venezia Giulia from June 21st to June 23rd 2019. Among sport events in our region, the “Italian Baja” is for sure one of the highlights, also thanks to the constant increasing of participants and spectators, coming not just from Italy but also from abroad. It is not by chance that the “Italian Baja” is considered the third car racing National event after the Monza “Formula 1“ and the “Rally World Cup” in Sardinia. A chance to promote great sport events as well as our Land and our characteristics. The event’s headquarters this year will be at the Pordenone Fair, while the track faced by participants will mostly develop along the left bank of the Tagliamento river, offering a special parade also in Lignano Pineta and Brugnera. I wish all organizers all the best for the success of the event and warmly greet all participants and spectators, in the hope that they will once more feel satisfied and attached to the region Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Dopo i primi due round della Coppa del Mondo FIA CrossCountry Bajas in Russia e Dubai, il russo Vladimir Vasilyev è in testa, ma incontrerà i forti rivali a Pordenone, tra cui il campione in carica Jakub Przygonski e il ceco Martin Prokop. Vladimir Vasilyev do Bajas arrivano sulle piste italiane per il terzo round della nuova serie dopo aver sperimentato la neve e il deserto. La Coppa del Mondo FIA Cross Country Bajas è iniziata a febbraio con Baja Russia - Northern Forest, l’unico evento internazionale su ghiaccio e neve. Dei 44 partecipanti provenienti da 15 paesi in fila per la partenza, 37 equipaggi hanno terminato. Il finlandese Tapio Lauronen e Toni Tapio Lauronen (Mitsubishi) sono diventati i primi vincitori della nuova serie Baja davanti all’equi-

paggio russo di Vladimir Vasilyev e Konstantin Zhiltsov. Dopo una bella battaglia con il ceco Miroslav Zapletal e il suo navigatore slovacco Marek Sykora, il terzo posto è andato al lituano Benediktas Vanagas e al suo co-pilota polacco Sebastian Rozwadowski, che ha partecipato per la prima volta all’evento russo. Tre settimane dopo, il 7-9 marzo, la Coppa del Mondo FIA Cross Country Bajas è proseguita negli Emirati Arabi Uniti con Dubai International Baja. Il campione in carica della Coppa del mondo Jakub Przygonski (Mini), che ha saltato l’apertura della stagione, ha conquistato la vittoria con il suo nuovo co-pilota, il tedesco Timo Gottschalk sulle dune del deserto di Al Qudra. Sventolando la bandiera per gli Emirati Arabi Uniti, Khalid Al Qassimi (Peugeot) e il suo navigatore francese Xavier Panseri hanno dovuto accontentarsi di una medaglia d’argento, perdendo la vittoria per un minuto e dieci secondi. Per l’ultimo posto sul podio, c’è stata una dura lotta tra il ceco Martin Prokop (Ford), co-guidato da David Kripal, e l’equipaggio russo di Vladimir Vasilyev e Konstantin Zhiltsov (Toyota), con i cechi che si sono dimostrati i più veloci. Tuttavia, il quarto posto è stato sufficiente per Vasilyev e Zhiltsov a prendere il comando nella classifica generale. Prima di arrivare in Italia, dietro a Vasilyev, 33 punti, Lauronen e Przygonski hanno entrambi 30 punti. Vanagas è quarto con altri quattro punti indietro. Prokop, attualmente 7., ha sicuramente buone possibilità di salire più in alto nella classifica, anche se quest’anno non prevede di partire in ogni appuntamento della serie. Vasilyev arrives in Pordenone as World Cup leader

or the 2019 season, the format of FIA’s international cross-country series was completely redesigned, with two different World Cups created for bajas and cross-country rallies. After the first two rounds of FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Bajas in Russia and Dubai, the Russian Vladimir Vasilyev is in the lead, but he’s going to meet strong rivals in Pordenone, including defending champion Jakub Przygonski and Czech Martin Prokop. World Cup for Bajas participants arrive to the Italian tracks for the third round of the new series after experiencing snow and desert. FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Bajas started back in February with Baja Russia – Northern Forest, the only international event on ice and snow. Out of the 44 participants from 15 countries lining up for the start, 37 crews finished. Finland’s Tapio Lauronen and Toni Tapio Lauronen (Mitsubishi) became the first winners of the new Baja series in front of the Russian crew of Vladimir Vasilyev and Konstantin Zhiltsov. After a nice battle with Czech Republic’s Miroslav Zapletal and his Slovak co-driver Marek Sykora, third place went to Lithuanian Benediktas Vanagas and his Polish

co-driver Sebastian Rozwadowski, who participated in the Russian event for the first time. Three weeks later, on 7-9 March, FIA World Cup for Cross-Country Bajas continued in the United Arab Emirates with Dubai International Baja. Defending World Cup champion Jakub Przygonski (Mini), who missed the season opener, stormed to victory with his new co-driver, German Timo Gottschalk in the dunes of the Al Qudra desert. Flying the flag for the UAE, Khalid Al Qassimi (Peugeot) and his French co-driver Xavier Panseri had to settle with a silver medal, missing out on the victory by one minute and ten seconds. For the last place on the podium, there was a fierce fight between Czech Martin Prokop (Ford), co-driven by David Kripal, and the Russian crew of Vladimir Vasilyev and Konstantin Zhiltsov (Toyota), with the Czechs proving to be the faster. Nevertheless, the fourth place was enough for Vasilyev and Zhiltsov to take the lead in the overall classification. Before arriving to Italy, behind Vasilyev, 33 points, Lauronen and Przygonski both have 30 points. Vanagas is fourth with another four points behind. Prokop, currently 7th, definitely has a good chance to climb higher in the rankings, although he doesn’t plan to start in the whole series this year. In passato avevamo 13 gare all’anno, troppe per i team privati. - Qual è l’obiettivo per il cross country rally e qual è l’obiettivo per la baja? L’obiettivo per entrambi è quello di interessare più concorrenti, ottenere una maggiore presenza mediatica e cambiare la Coppa del Mondo in Campionato del Mondo. Un Campionato del Mondo rivaluterebbe la specialità del Cross Country Rally. - Sappiamo che la FIA sta lavorando per un Campionato del Mondo di Cross Country, pensi che sarà possibile mettere insieme rally e baja com’era nella Coppa del mondo fino all’anno scorso? Meno eventi riducono i costi per le squadre. Quindi non dovremmo avere troppe gare. - La XXVI edizione dell’Italian Baja sta per iniziare, qual è la tua opinione su questa gara? Amo l’Italian Baja. L’ho vinta io stessa una volta. L’organizzazione è grande e gli spettatori sono molto entusiasti.

Cross Country rally is still a big adventure for the competitors. The stages are much longer compared to other races and the team are not able to train the stages.

- It was decided this year to make two world cups: are we in a time of growth or just in a time of change? It is definitely time of change. To enable growth the competitors need one whole series. In the past we had 13 races per year, too many for private teams. - What is the goal for the cross country rally and what is the goal for the baja? The goal for both is to interest more competitors, to gain more media presence and change the World Cup to World Championship. A World Championship

would revalue Cross Country Rally Sport. - We know that FIA is working for a World Championship Cross Country, do you think that it will be possible to put together rallies and bajas as it was in the World Cup until last year? Less events reduce the costs for the teams. Therefore we shouldn´t have too many races. - The XXVI edition of the Italian Baja is about to start, what is your opinion on this race? I love the Italian Baja. I won it once myself. The organization is great and the spectators are very enthusiastic.

Dietro le quinte c’è una montagna di lavoro che non si vede, che non balza all’occhio di chi si gode lo spettacolo di tre giorni in derapata e controsterzo sui greti di Meduna, Cosa e Tagliamento. Realizzare una competizione valida per una Coppa del Mondo FIA significa stare sotto i riflettori della massima autorità sportiva internazionale, e significa anche assumersi una grande responsabilità nei confronti della propria autorità sportiva nazionale, che ci tiene eccome a far bella figura nel contesto iridato. La gestione dei tre giorni di gara – “tutto in 72 ore” è la formula 2019, dall’apertura delle verifiche sportive giovedì 20 giugno alle ore 17, alla conclusione della cerimonia di premiazione domenica 23 giugno alle ore 17 – passa al vaglio degli osservatori FIA e Acisport, ma è comunque solo il momento topico di un’impresa che nasce di anno in anno e si alimenta dell’impegno per lunghe settimane di una cerchia di collaboratori professionali, ma non professionisti, dato che la struttura operativa è quasi integralmente composta di volontari alimentati da una passione gigantesca. Uno sforzo da tappone in salita in ogni componente, dalla tracciatura del percorso (il greto dei fiumi muta continuamente) alla comunicazione mediatica (che comprende anche la stampa di questo tabloid in 15 mila copie distribuite su Pordenone e Udine), con tutto quello che ci sta in mezzo tra pratiche di autorizzazione e ricerche di supporto istituzionale e di sponsorizzazione privata. Così se vi capiterà di assistere all’Italian Baja 2019, di trovarci qualche difetto e lacuna, siate comprensivi e consapevoli che equipaggi da ogni parte del mondo vengono qui da noi perché ospiti di gente unica.

To realize a competition valid for a FIA World Cup means to be examined by the most important International sport authorities but also to assume a great responsibility towards our own National sport authority, which cares a lot in giving a very good impression inside the World Cup. FIA observers and Acisport sift through the management of the three days race – “all in 72 hours” is the 2019 formula, from the opening to the scrutineering on Thursday, June 20th at 5pm to the end of the Prize Giving Ceremony on Sunday, June 23rd at 5pm – but this is just the decisive moment of a feat increasing year by year thanks to the dedication of professional but not expert colleagues, as it mostly deals on volunteers fond of this specialty who have been working since long weeks. An enormous effort demonstrated by each member, from the planning of the track (riverbeds ceaselessly change) to the Media communication (including also the printing of this in 15 thousand copies, distributed in the Pordenone and Udine areas), involving also authorizing procedures, institutions’ support and private sponsors. Thus, if it will happen to you to find some flaws and gaps in watching at the Italian Baja 2019, please be understanding and remember that crews come here from each part of the World because they feel guest of unique people.

Le stesse domande di Jutta, ma l’arringa dell’avvocato libanese apre nuovi scenari… - Dal tuo punto di vista, come vedi in generale la specialità del Cross Country? “Il Cross Country è definito nel regolamento FIA come un rally sportivo il cui itinerario copre il territorio di uno o più Paesi in tre tipi di competizioni: cross country rally, cross country marathon e cross country baja. Ogni tipo ha le proprie condizioni e caratteristiche. Questa specialità è diventata negli ultimi anni molto popolare e attraente, riceviamo ogni anno molte richieste di adesione al nostro calendario sportivo da parte di diversi paesi, e questo è a mio avviso uno dei tanti altri segni di successo. Costruttori e giovani piloti troveranno nel cross country un terreno di opportunità!”. - Quest’anno si è deciso di realizzare due coppe del mondo: siamo in un periodo di crescita o solo in un momento di cambiamento? “Onestamente, la cosa sta diventando confusa. Abbiamo già molte difficoltà a definire un calendario adeguato per bajas e rallies soprattutto con nuovi eventi integrati e con molte complicazioni logistiche. La soluzione di organizzare due coppe del mondo è sicuramente un risultato della crescita, ma solo il futuro potrà mostrare se questo diventerà un cambiamento permanente o forse qualche combinazione potrebbe creare da due coppe un Campionato del Mondo mantenendo le due coppe separatamente”.

I rally richiedono maggiore resistenza e sforzi di navigazione nelle fasi su terreno aperto, mentre la maggior parte delle baja mantiene le caratteristiche di un terreno limitato e fasi più brevi. Entrambi attirano piloti e tifosi, ma i rally sono più interessanti per le grandi squadre che possono permettersi le spese elevate e correre su tappe più lunghe per diversi giorni. Le baja sono eventi più brevi, ma possono essere più divertenti e coinvolgenti, un’opportunità perfet-

Each type has its own conditions and characteristics. This specialty became in the few past years very popular and attractive, we are receiving every year many requests from several countries to join our sporting calendar, and this is in my opinion one of many other signs of success. Rallies requests more endurance and navigation efforts in open terrain stages, while most of Bajas keep the characteristics of a limited terrain and shorter stages. Both are attracting drivers and fans, but rallies are more interesting for big teams who can afford the high expenses and run on longer stages for several days. Bajas are shorter events but can be more funny and entertained and a perfect opportunity for young drivers or new comers with limited experience and budget”. - We know that FIA is working for a World Championship Cross Country, do you think that it will be possible to put together rallies and bajas as it was in the World Cup until last year? “As I just up mentioned, one of our main goals is to step from world cup to world championship. To become a championship as per the FIA regulations , the events should cover 3 different continents, but this condition is not so far available in any of these two disciplines by itself. If none of rallies or bajas will fulfill this condition, the only available solution to organize a championship might be an eventual combination between rallies and bajas events”. - The XXVI edition of the Italian Baja is about to start, what is your opinion on this race? “It is hard for me to give an objective answer about Italian Baja. I didn’t miss any version of it for the few last years. But I believe that Italian Baja is an iconic event in our calendar, a mixture between high standard organization, great staff experience, innovation, sport challenge and mostly a wonderful and cheerful ambience. All this together made Italian Baja what it is today”.

Ma dal momento che hanno dedicato la stagione 2019 alla partecipazione alla FIA World Cup appena creata per il Cross-Country Bajas, godersi il rally non è di gran lunga l’obiettivo più importante per loro. Stanno arrivando per fare punti, il più possibile! Benediktas Vanagas della Lituania e il suo copilota polacco Sebastian Rozwadowski sono stati una sorta di eroi non celebrati del Rally Dakar 2019. Nella prima metà della gara, più volte si sono trovati sull’orlo del ritiro poiché Ben aveva iniziato la dura maratona con problemi di

salute. Tuttavia, sono riusciti a raggiungere il punto di mezzo della corsa in un ottimo undicesimo posto, che hanno conservato fino al penultimo giorno. Per l’ultima fase, hanno compiuto uno sforzo eroico per chiudere la distanza di 4/5 minuti dalla decima posizione. Infine, l’equipaggio lituano-polacco ha portato il loro Black Hawk (una spettacolare Toyota Hilux tutta nera) al traguardo e hanno perso la top 10 solo per 5 secondi dopo 3000 chilometri di prove speciali! Per la stagione 2019 il loro obiettivo è quello di competere nella Coppa del Mondo Cross-Country Bajas, e dopo un 3. posto in Russia e un 5. a Dubai, arrivano a Pordenone con il 4. in classifica.

Vanagas. “Siamo molto contenti di iniziare quest’anno con l’Italian Baja, tanto più che questo è stato il nostro primo evento di cross country insieme nel 2015, prima che decidessimo di andare alla Dakar. È stato un evento molto bello, e ho anche iniziato nel 2013, quindi per me sarà la

terza volta. Ho un buon ricordo e spero che quest’anno avremo molta fortuna, perché vogliamo raccogliere più punti possibile “, ha aggiunto il co-pilota Rozwadowski. Guardando il ritmo e la determinazione dell’equipaggio, di sicuro possono essere buoni per una bella sorpresa a pordenone!

Vasilyev: “L’Italian Baja è una gara incredibile”

La mia prima partecipazione alla Coppa del Mondo è stata in Italia nel 2011. La mia prima vittoria in Coppa del Mondo è stata in Italia nel 2012. Non vedo l’ora di disputare questa sfida ogni anno. La Coppa del Mondo è divisa in due parti diverse: bajas e rallyraid. Abbiamo una scelta di dove

andare, dove abbiamo più possibilità di punti. Mi piacciono le bajas così come i rally-raid, dipende dal luogo dove si svolgono. Ma se la Coppa del mondo Cross-Country Rally o un futuro Campionato aggiungerà anche i marathon, sarà una serie troppo estesa. Per me è più interessante quando bajas e marathon rimangono separati. Si potrebbe partecipare meglio in uno o nell’altro. Se si farà un campionato di 12 gare più il Silk Way Rally, per me è troppo”.

They are coming for points, as many as possible! Lithuania’s Benediktas Vanagas and his Polish co-driver Sebastian Rozwadowski were some kind of unsung heroes of the 2019 Dakar Rally. In the first half of the race, they were sometimes on the verge of withdrawal since Ben started in the gruelling marathon stage with health issues. Nevertheless, they managed to reach the half-point of the race in an excellent 11th place, which they preserved until the penultimate day. Finally, the Lithuanian-Polish crew brought their Black Hawk (a spectacular all-black Toyota Hilux) to the finish line and they missed out on top 10 only by 5 seconds after 3000 kilometres of special stages! In the 2019 season, we are fighting in FIA World Cup for Bajas, at the moment we are fourth overall. This year we dedicated to the Baja World Cup and we are in a close fight, so Italian Baja will be a very important race for us,” Vanagas said. “We are very happy to start in Italian Baja this year, all the more because this was our first cross-country event together back in 2015, before we decided to go to the Dakar. It was a very nice event, and I also started there in 2013, so for me it will be the third time. I have good memories from this event, and I hope this year we will have a lot of luck, because we want to collect as many points as possible,” co-driver Rozwadowski added. Looking at the crew’s pace and determination, for sure they can be good for a nice surprise in Italy!

VASILYEV: “the ITALIAN BAJA IS VERY AMAZING”

My first participation in World Cup was in Italy in 2011. My first victory in World Cup was in Italy in 2012. I’m looking forward to this race every year. World Cup is divided in two different parts: bajas and rally-raids. We have a choice where to go, where we have more chances for points. I like bajas as well as rally-raid, depend on place where is a race. But if World Cup Cross-Country Rally or Championship will add marathon race, it will be too big championship. For me is more interesting when bajas and marathon are separate. You could participate better in one or in other. If twelve races plus Silk Way will be in one Championship, it is too much.

Martin Prokop: “Spero di battere Kuba quest’anno” D

urante la Baja italiana dello scorso anno, Martin Prokop ha combattuto un duello spettacolare con il suo rivale polacco e amico Jakub Przygonski. Quest’anno, il pilota ceco arriva a Pordenone direttamente dalla Sardegna dove si è presentato in WRC dopo una lunga assenza. - L’anno scorso c’è stato un feroce duello tra te e Kuba, con il secondo posto alla fine. Come ti ricordi quella gara e quale potrebbe essere la chiave per battere il tuo amico polacco quest’anno? - La gara dell’anno scorso è stata per me un’esperienza completamente nuova. Le tappe sono difficili perché ci sono un sacco di angoli nascosti dietro i cespugli. Ci vuole un po’ di tempo per abituarsi. Inoltre, anche le condizioni meteo non sono state facili. Sì, è stata una bella battaglia e mi sono divertito, spero di battere Kuba quest’anno. - Cosa ne pensi dell’atmosfera della Baja italiana? - Come ho detto prima, le prove sono speciali e molto impegnative. Pordenone è una città ospitante molto bella, con un’ottima atmosfera serale. - Dopo il Rally Dakar e diverse altre gare, questa sarà la prima volta per la vostra nuova auto sul suolo europeo. vista tecnico Shrek 2 è una storia diversa. Si tratta di una vera e propria auto da rally con miglioramenti in tutte le curve. Di sicuro lo sviluppo continua e ci sono alcuni piccoli cambiamenti rispetto alla Dakar. - Quest’anno non si partecipa a tutta la serie sia in Coppa del mondo o Bajas. Perché? Come si sceglie la gara in cui si parte? - Questa è una risposta facile. Il calendario e la suddivisione del campionato in due serie non hanno senso e non è interessante per me. È stato un bel mix l’anno scorso con Bajas e Cross-Country. Per quanto riguarda gli eventi in cui gareggiamo, quest’anno è più o meno un compromesso. Voglio

continuare a guidare per non perdere il feeling. Ecco perché abbiamo fatto la Baja Dubai e l’Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge. Ora iniziamo con qualche Bajas e poi il Rally del Marocco come preparazione per la Dakar 2020. - Sarete su una doppia azione italiana, arrivando a Pordenone dopo il round WRC Sardegna. Avere gare di due tipi diversi così vicine è un vantaggio o uno svantaggio? - La Sardegna è principalmente divertente per me, ma anche una buona preparazione per la Baja italiana. L’auto WRC è molto più veloce di quella da fondo, quindi mi aiuterà a prepararmi per le tappe del’Italian Baja. Vedrò se è un vantaggio o meno. Spero di sì alla fine.

Martin Prokop: “ I hope I will beat Kuba this year”

uring last year’s Italian Baja, Martin Prokop fought a spectacular duel with his Polish rival and friend Jakub Przygonski. This year, the Czech driver arrives to Pordenone straight from Sardinia where he showed up in WRC again after a longer absence. - Last year there was a fierce duel between you and Kuba, with you finishing second in the end. How do you remember that race and what could be the key this year to beat your Polish friend? - The race last year was completely new experience for me. The stages are tricky as there are a lot of hidden corners behind bushes. It takes some time to get used to this. Further, the weather conditions were not easy either. Yes, it was a nice battle and I enjoyed it, I hope I will beat Kuba this year. - What do you think about the atmosphere of the Italian Baja? - As I said before, the stages are special and very demanding. Pordenone is a very nice host city with great atmosphere in the evenings. - After Dakar Rally and several other races, this will be the first time for your new car on European soil. How big is the difference compared

to your old Shrek? Did you make any adjustments on the car based on the experiences of Dakar? - Both cars still look the same but from technical side Shrek 2 is a different story. It is a proper rally car with improvements on all corners. For sure the development continues and there are some small changes since Dakar. - This year you do not participate in the whole series either in the World Cup or Bajas. Why? How do you choose the races you start in? - That’s an easy answer. The calendar and split of the championship into two series are nonsense and is not interesting for me. It was nice mix last year with Bajas and Cross-Country. Regarding the events we compete in, it is more or less a compromise this year. I want to keep on driving not to lose the feeling. That’s why we did Baja Dubai and Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge. Now we start in a few Bajas and then the Morocco Rally as preparation for Dakar 2020. - You will be on a double Italian action, arriving in Pordenone after the Sardinia WRC round. Is having races of two different types so close an advantage or a disadvantage? - Sardinia is mainly fun for me but also good preparation for the Italian Baja. The WRC car is much faster than the cross-country one so it will help me to get ready for the Italian Baja stages. I will see if it is advantage or not. I hope so at least.

ACI Sport, its Car Sport Direction and the OffRoad and Cross Country Sport Commission shape the Italian series to meet the requirements of one of the most spectacular specialties. Appointment at 9.45pm in Lignano Pineta by the enchanting Piazza Marcello Dâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;Olivo, in front of the Tenda Bar, meeting point of the movida in this Friuli Summer beach, which will also host the presentation of the crews taking part in the World Cup. Lignano is one of the most appreciated tourist destinations of the Adriatic coast thanks to its fine golden sand and its location, as it is situated on a green peninsula about 50 km from Udine and 90 km from Venice. Ernest Hemingway christened it the European Florida. A beach covering 8 km, divided in three different areas: Sabbiadoro, Pineta and Riviera. Unforgettable the link between Lignano and the 12 hours Enduro, the competition born in 1985 and become one of the most prestigious races in the World. A hit formula, an enchanting race, technically hard. An explosive mix of sport, show and worldliness, whose protagonists along the beach and the Tagliamento riverbed were the greatest pilots in the specialty World. Also the Italian Baja discovered the charm of the challenge on the golden beach in 1997, with the opening super special starting from the Terrazza a Mare. Absolute protagonists were the Citroen Zx Rally Raid driven by Ari Vatanen and Pierre Lartigue, both of them already pluriwinners of

progetto Mirabilia, che riunisce le Camere di Commercio di tutta Italia in cui siano presenti siti Unesco come i nostri. Con Mirabilia, queste località si promuovono a livello internazionale con la forza di un network, ma che valorizza le sue singole, infinite peculiarità. Ecco, questo è un aspetto fondamentale della promozione della nostra regione, che dalla cultura e dalla storia, oltre che dalle iniziative sportive come l’Italian Baja, può trarre vantaggi notevolissimi in grado di sviluppare tutta l’economia”.

In our two provinces there are five of them and they represent a priceless wealth to be emphasized in a common contest to draw visitors, also intercepting the enormous streams of tourists attracted by Venice. For this reason we are active part of the Mirabilia project, which join the Italian Chambers of Commerce including Unesco sites like ours. Through Mirabilia, these locations are promoted at International level with the power of a network, emphasizing on the other hand its numberless single peculiarities. Well, this is a fundamental aspect of the promotion of our region, which takes great advantage by culture and history, but also by sport events like the Italian Baja, able to develop the whole economy”.

A Brugnera con l’orgoglio Jeepers S

abato 22 giugno l’Italian Baja farà sosta a Maron di Brugnera (ore 19.30), in piazza del Mercato, per una cerimonia di presentazione ed esposizione di tutti i concorrenti. Un omaggio alla cittadina e in particolare alla locale associazione J.E.S. Jeepers East-coast Side, fondata nel 2003 come sezione nord-est del Club nazionale Jeeper’s Generation Association. Nel 2004 comincia a organizzare dei propri eventi: corsi di guida, raduni all’insegna della conoscenza e sostegno delle malghe del nord-est, corsi teorici e pratici di orientamento. Nel 2005 rinnova i precedenti appuntamenti e partecipa alle rappresentazioni fieristiche di Pordenone con la Protezione Civile. Nel 2006, la conferma dei corsi vale il riconoscimento dalla Sede nazionale come miglior sezione organizzativa. Nel 2007 aggiunge agli eventi consolidati la presenza presso le pro-loco di zona per far conoscere la tecnica e l’uso del 4x4 e il mantenimento dei mezzi storici. Indìce inoltre riunioni al fine di istruire e aggiornare i soci e simpatizzanti sulle norme regionali che regolano il transito nelle aree di Interesse Comunitario (SIC). Diventa Associazione Sportiva Dilettantistica riconosciuta dal CONI. Nel 2008 continua a organizzare gli eventi di calendario, oltre ad impegnarsi nel sociale presenziando alle iniziative provinciali indette dal CONI a favore dei giovani, schiera tre soci nelle gare di agonismo nazionale ed europeo con la disciplina dell’estremo, ottenendo risultati tra i primi tre classificati. “Siamo soprattutto persone motivate e disposte ad impegnarsi in attività di volontariato – proclamano orgogliosi i Jeepers – che nel nostro caso sono attività sportive mirate alla promozione e divulgazione dello sport e della passione per un mito che si chiama Jeep, oltre a far conoscere i beni culturali ed ambientali della nostra regione, il Friuli Venezia Giulia, senza preoccuparsi di ricevere in cambio alcun tipo di compenso economico. Ogni anno siamo presenti in Assistenza all’Italian Baja con un nutrito gruppo, ricoprendo la mansione di Commissari di percorso e capiposto. Altro impegno condotto con cura

e merito è quello rivestito dall’associato Alex Piccinin (“Mocambo”) quale Commissario Tecnico Asi”. Questi i programmi istituzionali di J.E.S. Jeepers East-coast Side: “Utilizzare il 4x4 inteso come tecnica di guida, divulgare il turismo, gli usi e i costumi della nostra regione, valorizzando le mete dei nostri raduni verso realtà come le malghe, gli agriturismi e i beni culturali caratteristici del territorio, sempre nel rispetto della natura e delle norme dettate dalle leggi regionali; animare la disciplina dello sport dando vita ad una serie di manifestazioni dove ogni partecipante può misurare la capacità tecnica sua e quella del suo mezzo nel superamento di ostacoli di varia natura; far conoscere, con corsi e prove pratiche tenuti da istruttori di guida riconosciuti, il comportamento di un fuoristrada e le nozioni fondamentali delle norme di sicurezza del proprio mezzo; sostenere la solidarietà devolvendo a beneficienza parte del ricavato delle manifestazioni”.

n Saturday, June 22nd the Italian Baja will stop in Maron di Brugnera (at 19:30), in piazza del Mercato, for a ceremony of presentation and parade of all participants. A homage to the town and in particular to the local association J.E.S. Jeepers East-coast Side, founded

in 2003 as North-East section of the National Club Jeepers’ Generation Association. In 2004 it started organizing its own events: driving courses, meetings in the name of knowledge and support of North-East Alpine huts, orienteering theoretical and practical courses. In 2005 it re-proposed

previous appointments and took part in the Pordenone fair demonstrations together with the Civil Protection. In 2006, its courses were recognized by the National Seat as best organizing section. In 2007 beside the consolidated events it offered its presence by the tourist offices located in the surrounding area to show the technique and use of 4x4 and the maintenance of historical vehicles. Furthermore, it realized meetings in order to teach and give to members and symphatizers updated news about regional laws regulating the transit inside the areas of Community Interest (SIC). It became Amateurish Sport Association recognized by CONI. In 2008 it went on organizing the events’ calendar, but also applying itself in social works attending the CONI initiatives in favor of young people, lining up three members at National and European agonistic competitions, getting the first three positions. “First of all we are persons motivated and inclined to voluntary service – proudly declare Jeepers – which is represented by sport activities aiming to promote and spread sport and passion for a myth called Jeep, but also culture

and landscapes of our region, Friuli Venezia Giulia, without worrying if there is no reward. Every year we are represented at the Italian Baja by a considerable group in the Assistance area, working as track Officer and Chief Officer. L’anno successivo Juan “Nani” Roma (Ktm), formidabile sulle 2 e 4 ruote come dimostrano le successive imprese alla Dakar (vittoria 2004 su Ktm e 2014 su Mini All 4 Racing). Nel 2001 approdarono all’Italian Baja anche i quad, con dominio del padrone di casa Angelo Montico (Yamaha). Moto assenti nel 2007, a differenza dei quad con vittoria di Dario Segato (Suzuki); poi di nuovo appaiate ai “fratellastri” sino al 2016: vittoria di Vanni Cominotto (Husqvarna) e Amerigo Ventura (Yamaha). Senza dimenticare che sua maestà Stéphane Peterhansel (recordman di sigilli Dakar, 6 in moto, 13 in auto) venne a compet-

ere nel 2013 accettando la sconfitta da Alessandro Ruoso (entrambi su Yamaha) con il pordenonese, ovviamente favorito dalla estrema dimestichezza con il percorso, che poi andò a conquistare il titolo iridato baja. Dopo il 2016 più nulla, nonostante piloti, addetti ai lavori, appassionati e curiosi chiedano con

insistenza all’organizzazione di far tornare moto e quad all’Italian Baja. E allora che si fa? “Da parte mia sono assolutamente disponibile al ritorno delle moto in questa competizione” afferma Daniele Bergamasco, presidente regionale FMI. “Eventi di così grande caratura non possono che essere di stimolo e traino per agonisti vecchi e nuovi. Farò tutto quanto è nelle mie possibilità per riannodare il filo con Italian Baja, del resto le moto sono tuttora protagoniste nelle competizioni fuoristrada più importanti, dalla regina Dakar ai motorally e baja sparsi per il mondo. Nella nostra regione ricordiamo con nostalgia anche la mitica 12 ore di Lignano, abbiamo una forte vocazione per l’enduro e l’Italian Baja rappresenta sicuramente l’opportunità di un valore aggiunto per la nostra disciplina sportiva”.

he love affair of the Italian Baja with motorbikes and quads is the history of a complicated, deep and passionate love. The race, born exclusively for cars in 1993, in 1998 opened its doors to motorbikes. We used to ride along the stony “grave” represented by the Cellina-Meduna riverbeds, on the area of the Ariete Observatory, an extraordinary contest emphasized by the World Cup which contributed in let It be known all around the planet. The race was won by the giant rider from Bergamo Fabio Farioli (Ktm) thanks to an enormous gap gained ahead on his challengers. One year later victory was gained by Juan “Nani” Roma (Ktm), formidable pilot both with two- and fourwheeled vehicles as demonstrated by his following victories gained at the Dakar (won in 2004 with Ktm and in 2014 with Mini All 4 Racing). Quads appeared at the Italian Baja in 2001, edition dominated by the local master Ange-

lo Montico (Yamaha). No bikes in 2007, but quads, represented by the winner Dario Segato (Suzuki); then both together until 2016: victory signed by Vanni Cominotto (Husqvarna) and Amerigo Ventura (Yamaha). Unforgettable the presence of His Majesty Stéphane Peterhansel (record-man as for victories gained at the Dakar, 6 by bike, 13 by car) in 2013 when he accepted to be defeated by Alessandro Ruoso (both of them with Yamaha), as the biker from Pordenone was obviously used to face this kind of tracks, in fact he also gained the World Cup title. After 2016 no more bikers, although pilots, experts, fans and curious people go on asking the organizers to allow bikes and quads to take part again in the Italian Baja. So what is happening? “As for me I absolutely agree in welcoming bikes again in this competition” affirms Daniele Bergamasco, FMI regional President. “Such big events can be considered a stimulus for old and new challengers. I’ll do my best to join the Italian Baja again, as bikes still play the main role in the most important off-road competitions, from the Queen Dakar to the Baja bike rallies hosted all around the World. In our region we still remember with a bit of nostalgia the mythical 12 hours of Lignano, we have great vocation for enduro and the Italian Baja certainly represents the opportunity of an added value for our sport specialty”.

ulla è impossibile, soprattutto per l’elettrico. Dalla Formula E alla Dakar, passando per Pordenone, il Motorsport è sempre più green. L’ambiente da diversi anni è la nuova sfida per il mondo dei motori, perché le automobili, così come le moto, consumano carburante, inquinano e fanno rumore. Ma l’uomo non vuole rinunciarvi. E allora l’obiettivo delle Case è realizzare prodotti che gravino il meno possibile sull’ambiente, sia durante la produzione che sulle strade. Oggi si parla sempre più spesso di motori elettrici, di ibrido, recupero di energia e altre soluzioni per un futuro più pulito. - Anche il Motorsport sta diventando più verde? Negli ultimi anni Jean Todt e la FIA hanno imposto tecnologie pulite nelle corse, la Formula E come chiave di volta. Tutto è cominciato nel 2014 con Renault che ha contribuito alla nascita del campionato occupandosi dal punto di vista tecnico di tutte le monoposto. Poi è diventata una sfida open perché altre Case hanno potuto progettare motore, trasmissione, inverter, sospensione posteriore e software, rimanendo in comune il telaio in fibra di

Nicola Villani carbonio e le batterie. Così, oltre al brand francese, sono arrivati Audi, Jaguar, Mahindra e marchi “elettrici” come Venturi e NIO. In questa quinta stagione è entrata ufficialmente BMW, Nissan ha preso il posto di Renault, DS è al fianco dei campioni del mondo in carica di Techeetah. Stanno affilando le armi anche Porsche e Mercedes Benz che debutteranno a fine 2019. - La Formula E è il volto nuovo del Motorsport: la categoria che meglio di ogni altra esprime l’evoluzione del mondo dell’automobile. Dal punto di vista tecnico costituisce una piattaforma per lo sviluppo del settore dei prossimi decenni, offre ad ogni Casa l’opportunità di mostrare la propria tecnologia in un ambiente molto competitivo, garantisce equilibrio

tra contenimento dei costi e sostenibilità. Il tutto avviene nelle più belle città del mondo: le monoposto elettriche, silenziose e non inquinanti, consentono di correre nel cuore delle metropoli. Un nuovo concetto di sport unisce velocità, potenza e sostenibilità ambientale, senza perdere neppure un briciolo di adrenalina. - Alejandro Agag, l’imprenditore spagnolo che ha inventato la Formula E, ha deciso di alzare ancora l’asticella presentando a Londra la serie Extreme E. Riservata a fuoristrada elettrici, prenderà il via nel 2021 e affronterà i luoghi più unici e remoti del pianeta: gli equipaggi si sfideranno in ambienti estremi, ma anche luoghi di straordinaria bellezza naturale, minacciati dai cambiamenti climatici, come l’Artico, l’Himalaya, il deserto del Sahara, la foresta pluviale amazzonica e le isole dell’Oceano Indiano. Un concept innovativo che tenterà di unire la pratica sportiva alla sensibilizzazione verso argomenti di natura ecologica. - Strada già intrapresa dalla leggendaria Dakar, consapevole del suo impatto ambientale, aprendo a una nuova categoria per veicoli con energie alternative. Mezzi che vanno a gas, carburanti biodegradabili, bioetanolo, idrogeno o dotati di motorizzazioni ibride. Quando è comparsa la categoria per i veicoli elettrici, è entrata

E SE UN GIORNO DIVENTASSE UNA ITALIAN E-BAJA? in scena Acciona, multinazionale spagnola leader per infrastrutture sostenibili ed energie rinnovabili, appoggiando la sfida di Ariel Jatón e Tito Rolón, capaci al terzo tentativo di raggiungere il traguardo del rally raid più difficile al mondo nel 2017 con un fuoristrada elettrico. Nessuno prima di loro. - Dopo aver fatto la “storia”, l’Acciona 100% EcoPowered si è presentata al via della 24° edizione dell’Italian Baja, in una speciale categoria per veicoli a zero emissioni. Giustificato l’orgoglio del Fuoristrada Club 4x4 Pordenone per aver tenuto a battesimo nel 2017 in una gara FIA europea l’E-Prototipo iberico, tanto più che a condurlo in gara è stata Andrea Mayer (la signora Peterhansel…) assieme a Emma Clair. Nonostante le difficoltà di quell’edizione, una delle più dure che si ricordino, con un percorso devastato dalle piene dei mesi precedenti e un caldo soffocante (sarà così anche

quest’anno?), l’esperto equipaggio femminile ha affrontato con successo i greti friulani, il “Valvadrom” e il mitico “Salto di Rauscedo”, per la gioia anche di chi ama e rispetta questo territorio unico. - Anche i più scettici dovranno ricredersi: nulla è impossibile per l’elettrico. Nel 2018 l’Argentina ha accolto un rally-raid 100% elettrico, The Green Expedition. Aperta ad auto, moto e addirittura bici elettriche, la sfida consisteva nell’affrontare ben 5000 km, dalla

Patagonia alla frontiera con la Bolivia, lungo la mitica Ruta 40. Sfida tecnologica, sportiva ed ecologica: con lo spirito della Dakar ma puntando alla resistenza, più che alla velocità. Gli stessi organizzatori quest’inverno hanno dato vita a un nuovo raid elettrico, da Parigi a Capo Nord in 14 giorni: test probante per i veicoli elettrici, che di sicuro a -35°C soffrono molto, riducendo la propria autonomia e allungando clamorosamente i tempi di ricarica. Adottando uno stile di guida il più efficiente possibile, anche auto di serie semplicemente dotate di gomme termiche sono riuscite a raggiungere l’ambito traguardo, dopo un viaggio tra paesaggi incredibili, in perfetta armonia con la natura. - Siamo riusciti a convincervi? Se così non fosse, preparatevi perché il futuro è dietro l’angolo e presto anche all’Italian Baja la sfida si farà sempre più elettrica. E non pensate che vi abbia scritto questo perché da un paio di sta-

gioni commento la Formula E su Italia 1: godo ancora a viaggiare a capote aperta con un bel cabrio, adoro divertirmi tra le curve con una sportiva ben piantata per terra, insomma amo guidare e ho qualche annetto di più, quindi sono cresciuto con ben altra idea di mobilità. Eppure sono convinto che il futuro per le nostre città e per la salute nostra e dell’ambiente passi per auto piccole e a zero emissioni per tutti. Credo anche che il Motorsport sia un banco di prova straordinario per le nuove tecnologie: guidare più pulito non è una sfida impossibile, ma un impegno per il futuro. E adottare nuove energie non significa perdere piacere di guidare e facilità d’uso. Insomma, tranquilli, in futuro potremo ancora divertirci con il nostro “mezzo” a due e quattro ruote, con la velocità, ma nel rispetto dell’ambiente e dello sviluppo sostenibile. Come? Ve lo racconteremo lungo le strade più belle dell’Italian Baja.

Environment is since several years the new Motorâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s World challenge, because cars, as well as motorbikes, consume fuel, produce air pollution and are noisy. People donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t want to give them up, anyway. The aim of Companies is to realize environmentally-friendly products through a more ecological system. We often talk about electric engines, hybrid vehicles, energy reco-

very and other solutions towards a cleaner future.Â - Is Motorsport becoming more and more green? During last yearsÂ Jean Todte and F Â IA imposed clean technologies for races, with the E Formula as keystone.Â Everything started in 2014 with Renault which contributed to the championshipâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s birth dealing with single-seater as for the technical aspect. It then became an open challenge, because other companies had the possibility to project engine, gearbox, inverter, rear suspension and software, sharing a carbon fibers structure and batteries. It happens therefore that, besides the French brand, arrived also Audi, Jaguar, Mahindra and â&#x20AC;&#x153;electricâ&#x20AC;? brands like Venturi and NIO. In this fifth season officially entered BMW, Nissan took the place of Renault, DS is at the Techeetah World championsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; side. Porsche and Mercedes Benz, de-

buting at the end of 2019, are also sharpening their knives.Â - The E Formula is the new Motorsportâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s face: the class which best can express the evolution of carâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s World. From the technical point of view it represents a platform for the sectorâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s future development, offers to each Company the chance to show its technology in a very competitive environment, guaranteesÂ a balance between reduction in expenses and sustainability. It happens in the nicest cities in the World: the electric single-seaters, silent and ecological, allow to drive in the middle of a metropolis. A new concept of sport join speed with power and environment sustainability, without losing a grain of adrenalin. - Alejandro Agag, the Spanish businessman who invented the E Formula, decided to even improve his project, presenting the

Extreme E series in London. Addressed to electric off-road vehicles, it will start in 2021 to face the most unique and distant places in the World: crews will challenge in extreme locations, but also places characterized by an extraordinary natural beauty, threatened by climate changes, as the Arctic, the Himalaya, the Sahara desert, the Amazon rainforest and the Indian Oceanâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s islands. An innovative concept to join sport practice with the environmental awareness.Â A road already taken by the legendary Dakar, aware of its environmental impact, opening a new class for vehicles powered by alternative energies.

spect this unique Land.Â Also sceptics will have to change opinion:Â nothing is impossible for electric vehicles. In 2018Â Argentina hosted a 100% electric rallyraid, The Green Expedition. Addressed to cars, motorbikes and electric bikes, the challenge consisted in facing a 5000 km track,Â from Patagonia to the Bolivian border, along the famous Ruta 40. A technologic, sport and eco-friendly challenge: keeping the Dakar spirit but aiming more to endurance than to speed.Â Organizers themselves, last Winter, realized a new electric raid, from Paris to Cape NorthÂ in 14 days: test for electric vehicles, certainly suffering the-35Â°C, reducing their autonomy and considerably prolonging their recharge times. Adopting the most efficient driving style, even cars which dispose just of thermal wheel were able to gain the arrival line, after a travel through unbelievable landscapes, in perfect harmony with nature. Didnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t we convince you yet? If not, be prepared because the future is round the corner and soon also the Italian Baja challenge will become more and more electric.Â Donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t think I wrote this because since last two seasons I comment the E Formula on the Italia 1 channel: I still enjoy driving an open cabriolet, I like to have fun in steering with a solid sport car, in conclusion I love to drive and I am not very young, so I grew up with another opinion about mobility. But I am sure that the future of our cities, in the name of our health and environment protection, must count on small cars and zero emission for all vehicles. I believe Motorsport is an extraordinary test bed for new technologies:Â it is not an impossible challenge to drive â&#x20AC;&#x153;cleanâ&#x20AC;?, but on the contrary a task for the future. To choose new energies doesnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t mean to lose the joy of driving and an easier use. Donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t worry, in the future we still be able to have fun with our two or four wheeler â&#x20AC;&#x153;vehicleâ&#x20AC;?, enjoying speed, but in accordance with environment and eco-friendly development. How? We will tell it along the nicest routes of the Italian Baja.
