SPECIAL SECTION: WALHALLA HIGH SCHOOL
D
uring the month of May, Trehel Corporation completed work on the new $47.8 million Walhalla High School in Walhalla, SC. This milestone project for the firm was the largest project ever completed during our 33-year history. Not only was the project completed ahead of schedule, but it was also significantly under budget as well. The main building is 260,000 square-feet and will accommodate up to 1,300 students. The facility contains 6,169 cubic yards of concrete, 366,209 concrete blocks, 173,000 bricks and 1,146 tons of steel. An interesting fact, Trehel team members self-preformed all of the concrete work associated with the main school building and surrounding areas. The scope of work also included construction of a 4,168-seat football stadium and multiple support
buildings for both spring and winter sports. Amenities for these facilities include; coach’s offices, locker rooms, restroom facilities, concessions, baseball & softball fields, football and soccer practice fields, track & field event venues and tennis courts. Trehel served as the Construction Manager for the project and handled construction administration, scheduling, and procurement of all materials, systems, and subcontractor selection. McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture of Greenville, SC provided architectural design services. Congratulations to all team members and additional Trehel support staff involved with this milestone project! It has been an incredible journey from site work to completion. We hope the students at Walhalla enjoy the new facilities, and the school will
serve many future generations of Oconee County.
