Spring Home Refresh: Easy Updates to Brighten Your Space BUCKET LIST DENTED

As the days grow longer and flowers begin to bloom, spring is the perfect time to refresh your home and embrace a lighter, brighter atmosphere. Whether you’re looking to update your interior or enhance your home’s curb appeal, a few simple changes can make a big impact. Here are some easy ways to bring new life to your space this season.

1. Refresh Your Walls with Color & Art

Winter’s darker tones can make a home feel heavy. Swap out deep colors for soft pastels, airy whites, or fresh greens and blues to create a more inviting atmosphere. If a full repaint isn’t on your list, consider:

• Removable wall decals or murals to add character without long-term commitment.

• Framed artwork or canvas prints featuring spring florals or coastal landscapes.

• Decorative wall lettering with uplifting quotes or family names.

2. Brighten Up Your Entryway

Your front door sets the tone for your home’s curb appeal. Simple updates can make it feel fresh and welcoming:

• A new coat of paint in a cheerful hue like sunny yellow, deep teal, or classic red.

• A custom house number sign to add a personalized touch.

• A spring wreath made of fresh greenery, flowers, or rustic wood elements.

• Outdoor signage with seasonal messages or a stylish welcome sign.

3. Let in More Natural Light

Spring is all about brightness, so maximize the natural light in your home:

• Swap out heavy curtains for sheer drapes or light linen panels.

• Use mirrors strategically to reflect sunlight and make rooms feel larger.

• Clean your windows thoroughly inside and out for a crystal-clear shine.

4. Add Fresh Greenery

Nothing says spring like fresh plants and flowers. Bringing nature indoors instantly lifts the mood:

• Potted plants like ferns, peace lilies, or snake plants add freshness and improve air quality.

• Fresh floral arrangements in pastel vases create a seasonal centerpiece.

• A small herb garden in the kitchen provides both beauty and functionality.

5. Update Outdoor Spaces

As the weather warms up, your outdoor areas become prime spots for relaxation and entertaining:

• Repaint or stain your patio furniture for a fresh new look.

• Add string lights or solar lanterns to create a cozy evening ambiance.

• Use outdoor rugs and cushions in fun springtime patterns.

• Consider custom outdoor signage for a stylish backyard bar or poolside retreat.

6. Declutter & Organize

A clutter-free home feels more open and inviting. Spring cleaning doesn’t have to be overwhelming—start with small steps:

• Switch out winter clothes for lighter spring attire and donate what you no longer need.

• Tidy up entryway spaces with stylish storage baskets for shoes, keys, and mail.

• Rearrange furniture to improve flow and give rooms a refreshed layout.

7. Make Small but Impactful Changes

Not every refresh requires a major investment. Try these quick and easy swaps:

• New throw pillows & blankets in pastel colors or floral prints.

• Seasonal candles or essential oils with scents like lavender, citrus, or fresh linen.

• A stylish doormat to welcome guests with a pop of personality.

Spring Into a Fresh Start

Refreshing your home for spring doesn’t have to mean a complete overhaul. A few thoughtful updates can make your space feel light, airy, and ready for the new season. Whether you’re adding a pop of color, embracing natural light, or enhancing your outdoor space, these small changes will bring renewed energy into your home.

How will you refresh your home this spring?

EUROPEAN STYLE

Marie Antoinette, Harry Potter, the Eiffel Tower and Big Ben were among the unwitting allies that waged war on my bucket list. Normally, our Winnebago is our vacation-on-wheels to check off must-sees and experiences but this time, my hubby Chris and I opted for Christmas in Paris and New Year’s in London.

Our European adventure began Dec. 19th aboard the Viking in the heart of Paris with the Eiffel Tower visible in the distance. Our cruise, “Christmas on the Seine” was an 8-day voyage on this romantic river with stops for walking tours, shopping and sight-seeing.

Every day was a baptism from culture to cuisine with our feeble attempts to speak the language from our “French for Dummies” book. Luckily, the ship’s daily newsletter was our compass for everything from the weather report and mealtime to on-board fun, facts and shore excursions.

Highlights included: Watching the Eiffel Tower glitter from top to bottom on Christmas Day. Touring the Palace of Versailles to see Marie Antoinette’s bedroom with escape door and the famous Hall of Mirrors – a decadent corridor of gilded statues and crystal chandeliers – where the signing of the 1919 treaty ended World War I. Strolling the Champs-Elysees, Latin Quarter and Christmas markets in festive splendor. Melting into the masses at the Louvre Museum to eyeball the Mona Lisa. Discovering a pedestrian tunnel, bypassing the busy traffic circle, to touch the Arc de Triomphe commissioned by Napoleon in 1806. Entering the Notre Dame Cathedral – an 860-year-old wonder of stained glass, stone carvings and religious artifacts – that recently opened to the public after the devastating fire.

Amid white Latin crosses and stars of David, we walked the hallowed grounds of the Normandy American Cemetery, the site of nearly 9,400 graves and memorials; and then stood at Omaha Beach where D-Day casualties were highest.

Ports of call included the village of Vernon for an organ recital in a

Medieval church. In Les Andelys, we braved a steep hill to the ruins of Richard the Lionheart of England’s castle, built in 1196. In Rouen, we toured a cathedral that impressionist Claude Monet painted over 30 times and the marker where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake in 1431.

From Paris, we rode the Eurostar, a high-speed train to London, including 35 minutes under the English Channel through the Chunnel. Our hotel room, though small and cramped, was an easy walk to Trafalger Square, Big Ben, the London Eye and Houses of Parliament. Nearby, the British Museum is world renowned for its massive collection from mummies to the Rosetta Stone.

Easy transportation was the Tube (subway) and the double-decker Toot Bus with guided tour from London Bridge and 10 Downing Street to the Tower of London, Harrods and Buckingham Palace.

On New Year’s Eve, we watched London’s spectacular fireworks on

television since tickets were sold out. A bigger blast was a New Year’s Day tour of Churchill’s World War II bunker with war room, kitchen and even the prime minister’s bedroom and signature cigar.

Aptly, we spent our last day at a British pub with pints of Guinness and fish and chips across from the St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel. The redbricked Victorian-Gothic masterpiece, opened in 1868, is unforgettable in the flying car scene in “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.”

Unfortunately, there was no Hogwarts Express for a fast-track home to Palm City. That would take more than a dozen hours of travel, long lines and bad food. All of which was magically forgotten with good memories, photos and a much shorter bucket list.

The History of St. Patrick’s Day & Fun Ways to Celebrate

Every March 17th, people around the world don green attire, enjoy festive parades, and raise a glass to St. Patrick’s Day. But do you know the history behind this lively holiday? Let’s take a look at the origins of St. Patrick’s Day and explore some fun ways to celebrate!

The History of St. Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick’s Day honors the patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick, who was born in Britain in the late 4th century. At age 16, he was kidnapped by Irish raiders and taken to Ireland as a slave. After several years, he escaped but later returned to Ireland as a Christian missionary. He is credited with spreading Christianity throughout the country and using the shamrock to explain the concept of the Holy Trinity.

St. Patrick is believed to have died on March 17, 461 AD, and the day has been observed as a religious holiday in Ireland for over a thousand years. It wasn’t until Irish immigrants brought their traditions to the United States that the holiday became the grand celebration we know today, filled with parades, music, and cultural pride.

Fun Ways to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day

Whether you have Irish roots or simply enjoy the festivities, there are many ways to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day:

1. Attend a Parade

Many cities host St. Patrick’s Day parades with marching bands, Irish dancers, and festive floats. Some of the biggest celebrations happen in New York City, Boston, and Chicago, where the river is dyed green!

2. Wear Green

Green is the official color of St. Patrick’s Day, symbolizing Ireland’s lush landscape. Wearing green is also said to make you invisible to leprechauns—so you won’t get pinched!

3. Enjoy Traditional Irish Food

Celebrate with classic Irish dishes like corned beef and cabbage, shepherd’s pie, Irish soda bread, or a warm bowl of Irish stew. For a sweet treat, try Irish cream-flavored desserts or shamrock-shaped cookies.

4. Raise a Toast with Irish Drinks

Many people enjoy Irish whiskey, Guinness beer, or festive green cocktails on St. Patrick’s Day. For a non-alcoholic option, try an Irish cream coffee or a green smoothie.

5. Listen to Irish Music and Dance

Put on some traditional Irish folk music or Celtic tunes and try your hand (or feet) at an Irish jig. Many pubs and community centers host live music and dance performances.

6. Learn About Irish Culture

St. Patrick’s Day is a great time to dive into Irish history, literature, and traditions. Read up on Irish legends, watch an Irish film, or try learning a few words in Gaelic.

7. Host a St. Patrick’s Day Party

Decorate your home with shamrocks, leprechaun hats, and green lights. Serve Irish-themed snacks and drinks, play trivia games about Ireland, and have a costume contest for the best St. Patrick’s Day outfit.

8. Give Back with Irish Spirit

Since St. Patrick was known for his kindness and generosity, why not honor the holiday by giving back? Consider donating to a charity, volunteering, or performing random acts of kindness.

9. Look for a Four-Leaf Clover

While shamrocks (three-leaf clovers) are the symbol of Ireland, the rare four-leaf clover is said to bring extra luck. Head outside and see if you can find one!

10. Try a DIY Irish Craft

Get creative by making your own St. Patrick’s Day decorations, like paper shamrocks, leprechaun hats, or rainbow crafts with a pot of gold at the end.

A Celebration of Irish Heritage & Joy

St. Patrick’s Day is more than just a day of parades and parties—it’s a time to celebrate Irish heritage, history, and culture. Whether you go all out with a big celebration or keep it simple with a homemade Irish meal, there’s a way for everyone to join in the fun.
