Meeting planners, it’s time to give Portland another look. Our city is in the middle of an unprecedented hotel boom: Our central city room inventory is on pace to grow nearly 50% from 2016–2021. That means if you haven’t checked out Portland’s offerings recently, you’re missing out! The 600-room Hyatt Regency at the Oregon Convention Center, opening in early 2020, will give Portland a long-awaited headquarters hotel. To complete the package, the convention center is also making major renovations that will complement the new hotel. But that’s just part of the picture: Large, small, boutique, citywide — we’re growing across all sectors and providing new reasons for every group to meet in this one-of-a-kind destination. Of course, Portland’s appeal isn’t limited to our hotels. With no sales or food & beverage tax, we save you green — and we’re one of the nation’s greenest spots when it comes to sustainability, too. Your delegates will gobble up our acclaimed food scene and diverse cultural offerings and feel welcome in our communities. And Travel Portland’s staff works with our hospitality partners to provide the best service in the nation. There’s never been a better time to meet here. Let’s play. Let’s plan. Let’s Portland!

With an already enviable collection of big-name and boutique hotels, Portland’s hotel inventory is skyrocketing: The current central-city inventory of 8,660 rooms will grow to over 10,000 by 2020. Most anticipated among the new developments is the 600-room Hyatt Regency, slated to open in early 2020. This headquarters hotel will offer planners a committable block of 500 rooms — right across the street from the Oregon Convention Center (OCC). Guests will also benefit from the ongoing revitalization of the surrounding Lloyd neighborhood, which is bringing more public spaces, stores and dining options to the area. “The new hotel makes the Oregon Convention Center an attractive choice for larger groups,” said Scott Cruickshank, general manager of Metro Visitor Venues, which manages the OCC. “Its LEED certification contributes to the Lloyd district’s emerging identity as a pioneer of new strategies for urban sustainability.”

“Portland was a very attractive destination for our participants. The Oregon Convention Center is well located and reasonably easy to access by our participants from hotels in the city. Travel Portland was a key partner throughout the full planning process and onsite experience.” — Elizabeth Pollard, World Parkinson Coalition 2016, 4,500 attendees

D N A — E VALU VALUES OOD DEAL FOR PORTLAND PROMISES AFOGR THE PLANET. YOU, FOR PEOPLE AND In Portland, there’s no sales tax and no food & beverage tax — which means instant savings for you and your delegates. And our three-meal total rings up at $82, compared to $94 in Salt Lake City and $95 in Seattle.* While you’re balancing your budget, attendees will delight in tax-free shopping and affordable dining in one of the nation’s top culinary destinations. As committed as Portland is to saving you cash, we’re also committed to the social and environmental components of the triple bottom line. In simple terms, we put our money where our mouth is to support
social equity and sustainability — and we make it easy for you to incorporate these values into your meeting. For example, the Oregon Convention Center’s waste diversion program keeps more than 500,000 pounds of waste out of landfills each year through recycling, donation or composting. And Travel Portland has a robust corporate giving program, with 50% of funds going to nonprofit organizations serving communities of color. *Source: Runzheimer International, 2018.

MAKES GETTING AROUND Visitors ranked Portland as No. 1 in the nation for public transportation and pedestrian-friendliness, according to a Travel + Leisure survey — and there are plenty of reasons to agree. Portland’s MAX light rail system connects Portland International Airport (PDX), the Oregon Convention Center (OCC) and the downtown hotel core — making it easy for your delegates to get where they need to go. Getting from PDX to the city center on MAX takes just 38 minutes and costs just $2.50. PDX is a star in its own right, named the best airport in the country by
Travel + Leisure readers for six consecutive years. Both convenient and comfortable, PDX offers efficiency, ample amenities, unbeatable shopping and delicious eats (along with nonstop service from more than 60 cities worldwide). In addition to MAX light rail, the OCC is served by the Portland Streetcar, which travels to the city’s hottest shopping districts, including the Pearl District and the Central Eastside. Delegates can also roll like locals with Biketown, the city’s bike-share program, or utilize Portland’s abundant carand ride-sharing services.

FOOD K N I R D & F PLACES YOU’LL NEVER RUN OUT OLAND. TO SIP AND SUP IN PORT With lush farms, rivers and the ocean all nearby — along with masterful chefs, artisan producers, creative makers, innovative bartenders and baristas in the city — it’s no surprise that Portland offers an unsurpassed food and drink scene. Local chefs make the most of bounty from nearby fertile farmland, often letting the haul from one of dozens of farmers’ markets dictate their menus. Portland restaurants, food carts and chefs have drawn widespread national and international acclaim, racking up countless prestigious awards. In 2017 alone, 16 Portland restaurants were semifinalists for
the prestigious James Beard Awards — tying us with other major foodie destinations, like Los Angeles and Manhattan. It’s not just chefs who find inspiration in the region’s bounty. Vintners produce worldrenowned pinot noirs from the hillsides of the Willamette Valley, while microbrewers craft award-winning beers with Oregongrown hops. Portland (aka “Beervana”) has over 75 craft breweries — more than any other city on the planet. Nearly 20 urban wineries bring wine country to the city, while a cadre of distilleries use local grains and fruit to create spirits with a distinctly Oregon flavor.

A cultural hub of the region, Portland offers delegates a variety of choices: established opera, ballet, symphony, theater and modern dance companies; nationally touring Broadway productions; boundary-pushing art, music, cultural and literary festivals; and popular cultural destinations sprinkled throughout the city. Literally and figuratively, Portland’s arts and cultural offerings are all over the map: In the middle of the city, Lan Su Chinese Garden is an urban oasis of water, stone and poetry, reflecting its authentic Suzhou craftsmanship. Downtown, attractions range from live music venues and performance spaces to the renowned Portland Art Museum and the newly expanded Portland Japanese Garden. Y T I L I B A N I SUSTA N IN PORTLAND, BEING GREE IS IN OUR NATURE. In ways both big and small, Portland has long been obsessed with keeping its environment unspoiled. Residents’ recycling and bike-commuting rates are among the highest in the nation, and city planners are committed to preventing sprawl and preserving the working farms and natural wonders that ring the metropolitan area. This eco-friendly ethos and sustainable infrastructure make it incredibly easy to plan a green meeting here. In 2004, the Oregon Convention Center became the first convention center in the world to earn LEED
certification. It was recertified as Silver in 2008 and achieved Platinum LEED status in 2014. Other LEED-certified facilities in Portland include the nation’s first gold- and platinumlevel renovations of historic buildings (the Jean Vollum Natural Capital Center and the Gerding Theater at the Armory, respectively). There are also many green hotels in the city core — including the new Hyatt Regency headquarters hotel, slated to open in early 2020 — with certifications ranging from LEED to Green Seal and beyond.

The Oregon Convention Center (OCC) is the largest convention facility in the Pacific Northwest. It offers 255,000 square feet (23,690 sq m) of contiguous exhibit space, 52 meeting rooms, two grand ballrooms, full-service catering and an 800-space underground parking garage.Visitors can get to and from the downtown hotel core and Portland International Airport with ease via light rail and streetcars. The OCC strives to be the most sustainable convention center in the world — and the first choice as a venue for green meetings. A renovation of the Oregon Convention Center is underway and expected to be completed by early 2020. The project includes numerous upgrades to the center’s public spaces and ballrooms, as well as a reconstruction of the north plaza. The new designs, inspired by Oregon’s landscape, will include lichen-like carpets and forest canopy ceilings. The north plaza will be renovated to provide more flexible and usable space and to improve wayfinding for adjacent hotel guests and transit commuters. These upgrades will allow the 28-year-old center to continue to provide world-class service for today’s meeting and event needs.

Hotel Modera is an oasis in the heart of downtown Portland, tucked away in a little-known neighborhood called the Fountain District. Their vision of Portland isn’t a “best-of,” a “top-ten,” or a ”must-see” they found on some blog. They’ll connect you with a different Portland story — a story you can find only if you know where to look. Zen out in the nature-filled, living wall–covered courtyard, or get wild in the play-inducing game room. Fresh, local and seasonal describe not just the food at the on-site restaurant, Nel Centro; they describe Hotel Modera’s whole approach. Come stay at Hotel Modera and rediscover Portland.

From drag racing and land-speed records to open-wheel racing and NASCAR, World of Speed Motorsports Museum celebrates it all. The educational museum features historic race cars, boats and motorcycles that tell the story of motorsports culture and provide visitors with a behind-thescenes look at the racing world. If you love motorsports, stop by and check out the featured exhibits like “Harley-Davidson: America’s Motorcycle” or “Mario Andretti: Racing Royalty,” which opens in late March 2019. Other special exhibits include the Daytona Banking Wall, the Wall of Sound, Women in Racing and the History of Northwest Drag Racing. The museum also celebrates road racing, motorcycle racing and hydroplanes in exhibits that are constantly changing – there is always something new to see and learn at World of Speed! While you’re on-site, take a spin (or two) in one of three simulators that put you behind the wheel of an iconic Formula, Indy or NASCAR race car! World of Speed has lots of family-friendly exhibits and activities, including the Super Service Center, a kid-size replica car and service garage that’s a hit with the preschool crowd. The museum offers summer and winter break camps and workshops for children that teach STEM concepts through the lens of motorsports. World of Speed also hosts automotive classes for nine area high schools during the week and has behind-the-scenes tours of the educational Learning Center on most Saturdays. The museum can be rented out for any type of event – everything from children’s birthday parties to intimate gatherings in the Atomic Lounge (a midcentury-modern marvel) to a party for 800 of your closest friends or clients. The on-site Orbit Event staff will help you curate an event your guests won’t soon forget.
