Backpocket Taproom

THE ONE WITH DELICIOUS FOOD.

THE ONE WITH A RETRO ARCADE.

With the mission to produce world class craft beer alongside unique cuisine in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, the folks at 7 Hills pride themselves on their ability to continue brewing traditions that once permeated Dubuque’s landscape.

This is the third expansion location for Backpocket and the first dedicated taproom. Their goal is to spread their beer to all areas of Iowa so whether you live in a small town or a big city, Backpocket will be within a reasonable reach.

Dimensional Brewing Company THE NEW KID ON THE BLOCK.

Opened in 2018, Dimensional Brewing Company is a seven barrel brewery in heart of downtown. With regulars in rotation and something new on the horizon, you'll find good brews and a crew who is passionate about beer.

River Ridge Brewery

THE ONE WITH GRASS ROOTS.

THE ONE WITH A HISTORY.

THE ONE ALONG THE RIVER.

Jubeck New World Brewing is a small microbrewery located downtown. Their mission is to create interesting and delicious craft beer while providing a social space that cultivates conversation and comradery. Community is important to them - it literally funded their startup.

Founded in 1852, the Potosi Brewing Company became the fifth largest brewery in Wisconsin and was distributed coast to coast. The brewery survived prohibition but closed in 1972. Following a $7.5 million restoration, the brewery reopened in 2008.

River Ridge Brewery is a family owned and operated, community driven nanobrewery. It was started by passionate craft beer lovers. Some of them have a background in the craft beer business, some in brewing, some in money, and some just love beer.

07 08 Catfish Creek

Dubuque Bier

THE ONE WITH RIVERSIDE DINING.

THE ONE YOU FIND ALL OVER.

This restaurant along the river has long been a Dubuque staple. After converting a corner of their space into a microbrewery, they now proudly serve their own craft brews.

While they don't have a location, you can try this brew at many local bars, pubs, and restaurants or stop by a local grocery store to take some home with you.

Rich History

Dubuque has had a long history in the brewing industry. Whether with the castle like structure standing on Jackson Street that was the Western Brewing Company (circa 1850s) or the Dubuque Star Brewery (circa 1860s) that was once located at the Historic Star Brewery Building in the Port of Dubuque. WE TALKED TO:

Kelly Hueneke Local brew master at River Ridge Brewery in Bellevue, Iowa.

Tell us about yourself. I have been in the craft beer industry since 2012. I've always loved the culture but never did I think that would lead to me one day owning a brewery! What do you love about being a brewer? I love creating something that people get to enjoy. There is nothing better than someone drinking your beer and loving it. It also allows me to be creative. I get to play around with different recipes and try new things. Where can people find you on the weekends? On nice Iowa days you can find me boating on the mighty Mississippi or enjoying any of our beautiful parks. I especially love the new trail at Felderman Park in Bellevue that connects to Bellevue State Park. On those not so nice Iowa days you can find me shopping and supporting local businesses or cozying up with a coffee at A Corner to Fill inside Potter's Mill.
