Anthony J. Delmonte, Jr. There is nothing like Summer in Western New York. The festival season is upon us, graduation parties are a regular occurrence, and Transit Valley is a hive of activity. Before you know it, the Erie County Fair will begin which always signifies that the end of Summer is near. But, we have much more ahead of us before the season concludes. Please make sure you take advantage of everything the club has to offer in the coming months. The fourth of July was another huge success, from the day at the pool to dinner and fireworks, everything was spectacular. I want to thank the entire staff for all their hard work. This was an extremely long day for them that requires much planning. I am truly grateful for their passion and commitment to make the member experience the best it can be. As many of you likely heard by now, the Irrigation and capital funding plan passed by an overwhelming majority at the member meeting on June 30th. In preparation for the start of work, a good share of the materials has been purchased so we lock in the best prices as possible. As a reminder, work is expected to commence in the Spring of 2023 for a duration of about 8 to 16 weeks depending on the conditions. There should be minimal disruption of play on the golf course. Adam and his team have done a great job getting the course ready for work to begin next Spring. The membership survey from earlier this year, in addition to priorities for capital, identified areas of focus in terms of service. Tina, and the department heads, completed their review of the comments and survey results and created action plans around top priorities. I received feedback that we are out of pull carts. We did receive eight new carts in late Spring. After querying the golf shop, it was determined that while we have enough carts, they are all in use when people arrive and are warming up on the range. By the time the members are ready to play, carts are available. Jonathan will work with the bag room staff to ensure members get carts as they come off the course. Jonathan and the golf shop staff will monitor this closely. Please feel free keep the golf shop apprised of any issues. This has been a fantastic Summer so far and I want to thank all of you for making TVCC a special place.

Where did the summer go...? As I write this article, we just finished our final home swim meet, which was a tri-meet with Brookfield Country Club and Wanakah Country Club. We had 350 people at the pool complex and all I can say is “the place was rockin’!!!” Congratulations to Joe Wilkie, and his team, along with all the kids on the swim team. The team finished the season with winning 4 out of their 5 swim meets. Special thanks to all the parents for their support, cheering the kids on and for getting the kids to all the meets on time! We are also in the process of putting the finishing touches on our Ralph Haas Invitational and our Summer Bash. This is by far, the biggest event that we plan; there is a lot of detail and special touches involved with making this tournament successful. Looks like the golf gods are going to be kind to us! As we say in the club business, we are now halfway to Labor Day. Time sure is flying and our team is now starting to focus and prepare for the Fall season. Here are a few highlights:

Food and Beverage Update We hope you have had an opportunity to experience Chef Dan’s new summer lunch and dinner menus and Joe’s Summer Specialty Cocktails. Rumor has it that, the Coco Lemon Drop is “to die for.” If you are looking for a delicious and relaxing dinner on Sunday evenings, please consider joining us for our Grill and Chill which will be featured for the month of August. Feedback was it’s the best kept secret! Look for the emails every Friday evening and Sunday morning which will provide you with the menu details. A couple of months ago, I talked about improving your experience in all departments and how we developed five core values consisting of Community, Teamwork, Family, Pride and Fun. We continue to work on these values and building programs which keeps our members engaged along with focusing on our mission of providing exceptional service, outstanding facilities, and first-class amenities. I also talked about the differences between service and hospitality. We are continuing to work with our team on becoming “Hospitalians”. At this time, I would like to recognize, our employees of the month, Olivia Klein who is one of our lifeguards and Ava Casell who is one of our tennis professionals, as true Hospitalians. Both of these young ladies go above and beyond their duties, they think of others, not themselves, and they make a difference. Congratulations and thank you for being extraordinary members of our staff, and we hope you know how much you are both appreciated! On my way home for the day, I met up with some new members in the parking lot, we talked about how they are enjoying their membership and how they sometimes spend the entire day at the club. Before saying goodnight there was one comment, they made that really impressed me “This place is like a vacation”!!! My though was “mission accomplished!”

This has been a fantastic summer of tennis and pickleball at Transit Valley. We have had so many adults and juniors enjoy our programs and activities, making this one of the best years ever at the club. But there is still plenty of time to learn these lifetime sports. So, come out and let us show you how to play! The junior recreational programs continue to grow in numbers. Our Junior Tennis Clinics have 75 kids participating on Tuesdays and Thursdays! This number equals the highest number of juniors enrolled in the last six years. In addition, the number of kids in our junior pickleball, junior basketball, and junior tennis team continues to surge. In short, our junior recreational programs are flourishing. ATTENTION ALL JUNIORS INVOLVED IN CLINICS AND THE INTERCLUB TEAM!!! We have a schedule change for August. The Junior Interclub Tennis Championships will take place on Wednesday, August 3rd ONLY. They were originally scheduled for both August 3rd and August 4th. This means the Junior Tennis Clinic scheduled for Friday, August 5th to accommodate this tournament, is now moved back to Thursday, August 4th. Unless we have a rainout, all tennis clinics will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Our Down the Line Tennis Clinics begin Saturday, August 20th.. These clinics will help juniors who want to continue to learn how to play and improve their skills. These clinics will run for five consecutive Saturdays at the following times: 4 - 7 year olds 7 - 9 year olds 10 and over

So plan on enjoying a night of tennis and/or pickleball with your fellow members. Our Wednesday Morning Drill Clinic will continue through August 3rd.

We can’t believe August is already here! Hopefully you’ve been able to take advantage of our pool amenities in this beautiful summer weather. So far this summer, we have had the pleasure of sharing many “firsts” with your children at the pool. Many of your children went in the water for the first time during our Water Babies class, others went underwater for the first-time during lessons, and some even went off the diving board for the first time! Some of our older swimmers even participated in their first race! Our growing swim team has performed very well this season, winning 3 of 4 swim meets. We hope the pool staff has been welcoming and accommodating to you and your families. Our goal is to make the pool a getaway for parents to relax and unwind, and a fun place filled with games and good times for the kids. Swim lessons will wrap up on Wednesday, August 10th, but we will continue to offer private lessons for those that would like to continue. It’s hard to believe we’re already heading into our final month of summer. I hope you and your family have been enjoying the beautiful weather and all the activities taking place across the Club. We are proud to offer two more child-centered activities in August. Please find additional details below. In addition, our fall planning is well underway. More information will be coming in the next divot regarding pumpkin painting and fall fest! I wanted to take the opportunity to thank of all our camp families for their support and allowing us the opportunity to make memories with our youngest TVCC members. We are proud to be able to continue to create a safe and engaging program that keeps our kids coming back year after year!

It seems impossible that we are approaching the end of the summer, but what a wonderful summer we had. The weather was perfect, and there was a lot of activity at the club. Maybe it is me, but the club seems busier than ever with families taking advantage of all the club has to offer. Thanks to Tina and the staff for all they have done to make the summer so enjoyable. Thank you also to the Women’s Committee for their commitment and dedication to women’s activities. There has been a lot of engagement in the women’s social activities and entertainment – I have been hearing, “more women than ever have participated.” The committee chairs have worked diligently this year to create a welcoming environment for all ladies of the club. Their efforts have certainly been noticed. I encourage all ladies to participate in the many events/activities planned. You will truly form new friendships and be glad you did. Always a highlight of the summer is the charity golf tournament. A huge thank you to all those who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the success of the tournament. Thinking of next year . . . DO YOU HAVE A CHARITY YOU ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT? Many of us sit on boards or have a particular passion for a local non-profit charity. If this rings true to you, please let me know as we are looking for a new charity to sponsor next summer. There is a team of volunteers behind the charity golf tournament. Therefore, submitting a charity does not mean that you have accepted all the work needed to put the event on. We are looking for a connection to a charity, and then will work directly with that charity. Enjoy the remainder of your summer! See you at the club!

A Message from The Golf Professional Jonathan Decker, PGA

August is finally here, which means club championships for Men, Women, Couples and Juniors. We look forward to some great competition and excitement in just a few weeks. Please consider registering on ForeTees to play if interested. As we near the end of the month, many outside golf staff will depart for their respective universities, so please say farewell before they head back to school. One departure will be Jennamae Lipiarz as she will be moving on to attend SUNY Binghamton for her last two years of college. Jennamae has been a vital part of the Golf Shop staff for the last three seasons and her easy going and friendly demeanor will be missed. Her dedication to the club and her position while maintaining a near 4.0 GPA at Canisius College has been greatly appreciated. The topic of pace of play will likely never go away, so for this month I was asked by a member to politely remind everyone to keep up with the group in front of them! Your place on the golf course is directly behind the group ahead of you, not directly in front of the group behind you. As we have a high number of walking players at the club, please be sure to place your bag or pushcart behind the green or on the side closest to the next tee box, this will allow for a prompt exit to the ensuing hole and prevent the group behind you from waiting for you to retrieve your clubs.

Reciprocals For those interested in playing a round of golf at one of our reciprocal clubs, please reach out to Eric Borchert either by calling the golf shop or sending him an email, eborchert@transitvalley. com. Please plan ahead and allow for a general time of day to obtain a tee time. As a rule of thumb, most clubs will not allow outside groups until the afternoon on weekends and holidays, which is also the case at Transit Valley. The fall aerification will close the course on Monday, September 12th and Tuesday, September 13th. Please reach out to Eric in advance if you are looking to secure tee times elswhere that week.

ForeTees Lottery System To help create a better understanding of how the ForeTees tee time lottery system works, we would like to provide the following information: • The order groups have their requests selected is based on the average point value for the players within each group. Groups with the highest average will have their requests honored first, and so forth from there. • Points are allocated to players based on the number of minutes they are assigned away from their desired request. One minute equates to one point and can be carried by a player for up to 30 days. Guests and ‘X’s do not have any point value. • As players accumulate points, their priority or standing in the lottery is likely to improve depending on the point values of the other players in their group. • Priority is based solely by point values, as neither Member/Spouse status nor Male/Female designation factor into the equation. • Default time variance for each lottery request is 60 minutes before or after the selected time. • Group size does not impact lottery standing as it is the average points for the players that will determine priority within that specific lottery. • With an active membership and a substantial increase in play over the last two seasons, demand for tee times during peak times may outpace supply at certain times. An example would be on Wednesday and Friday mornings on the days we have junior golf, for there are oftentimes six to eight groups requesting to play at 10:00am (the earliest available). A Message from the Greens Superintendent Adam Mis I can’t believe it is August already. We have had one of those great Buffalo summers. I hope everyone has been able to get out and enjoy the club. The course has held up well during the drought conditions. The lack of rain is very apparent with the low level of #1 pond. The pond when built, we should have installed a commercial liner or applied heavy clay to the bottom. TVCC soil conditions are on the sandy side, so the pond water leaches back into ground during dry conditions. We will investigate lining of the pond in the future. It will fill back up once we get rain. We are extremely excited about the approval of the new irrigation system. This was an infrastructure item that was due. This system will be a fantastic addition to the club and the materials and installation should help us continue in the right direction to improve the overall club property. The materials have been ordered and will be arriving over the next six months. The supply chain issues have been a challenge with most items, so it is good we have ordered now because items may take months to arrive. We hope to have everything on property for an efficient install next spring. We started mobilizing soil to the new forward tee locations that our architect positioned on the property last fall. Our architect Mark Mungeam will be visiting in August to check locations, sizes, and distances of these tees. This should help make the course more women friendly and improve the forward tees. He agrees that TVCC is a long course for the women players. Tees will be added on #5, #9, #15, and #18. We will renovate #4, #10, #12, and #13. A middle tee in front of the back tee #2 will be added because there should be a tee for the white and silver markers. The rest of the tees will be addressed in the future. Mark will also look at the contour adjustments on #14 pond and possible green adjustment on #18 green. As you see, the grounds crew has taken on these projects, with that, we can only do these projects when we have time to accomplish while also maintaining the golf course. It’s an exciting time at the club. As these projects continue to finish, the course will continue to get better and better for years to come. We want to thank all the members that are filling their divots with the sand provided and fixing their ball marks. It has helped the grounds crew with divot recovery and provided great conditions for the golfers playing behind you. The course has been busy and any etiquette items that you can do will help us continue to be the best club in Western NY.

Dress Code and Denim Policy Grill Room, Patio, & Simulator Lounge

Country Club appropriate denim is defined as properly sized, in excellent condition, and dark in color(white or black denim is also acceptable). Country Club appropriate denim does not include holes or rips, fading or stonewash look, frayed material, denim shorts, jackets, skirts, dresses, work type denim shirts, or jeans that are worn extremely low cut. Tasteful and appropriate shirts and shoes must be worn. For men, denim must be paired with any tucked-in and collared shirt, sport coat or sweater. Country Club Attire is also deemed appropriate which is defined as: Bermuda length shorts, sundresses, collared shirts for men and appropriate women’s attire.

Country Club Attire will be acceptable consisting of collared shirts for men and appropriate women’s attire. Sport coats are optional but encouraged. The intent is to not allow denim. However, denim will be permissible if the Grill Room has reached its maximum capacity.

Dress codes will be defined for all Club/Special Events and will be communicated in the newsletter.

Members are encouraged to consider common sense when making casual-attire decisions. We prefer our members dress-up rather than dress-down when visiting the Club. While we expect that members will use good taste and judgment, the Board has directed Club Management to discreetly review any inappropriate casual attire decisions directly with the member to ensure that the Club maintains a casual environment that is enjoyable for everyone.
