Breast implants are medical devices that are used to increase breast size or to reconstruct the breast. Breast implants come in several sizes and shapes mostly round and oval. Growing desire to look good and fit has resulted in increased demand for breast implant procedures. Worldwide around 5 to 10 million women have breast implants surgeries. Breast augmentation has been top cosmetic surgical procedure since 2006. Silicone implants were used in more than 88 per cent and saline implants in 12 per cent of all breast surgical procedures in 2018. Improvements in the technology and developments in the design of breast implants have increased the demand for the product in the world. North America dominates the global breast implants market. The region has most number of breast augmentation surgeries. In 2019 around 299,715 breast augmentation surgeries were performed in the region (American Society of Plastic Surgeons). The growth is accounted to the prevalence of breast cancer and number of cosmetic surgeries.
