OUR RESEARCHERS Dr. Havy Nguyen, PharmD, ABAAHP Dr. Havy Nguyen is a Board Certified Anti-Aging Pharmacist who has redefined the Anti-Aging approach. Through her South East Asian heritage, Dr. Nguyen grew up learning about the applications of Integrative Medicine, and quickly transitioned away from traditional allopathic medicine by opening up her own compounding pharmacy. Dr. Mary Hall, ND, Lac Dr. Mary Hall is a licensed naturopathic physician and acupuncturist in northern Vermont. She started her medical career working on an ambulance, licensed as an advanced emergency medical technician, while obtaining her B.S. in Biology at Saint Michael's College. This experience shifted her interest from traditional allopathic medicine towards a more integrative, holistic approach, leading her to obtain both her Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine and Masters of Acupuncture at the University of Bridgeport, in Connecticut.

Dr. Van Pham, DPM Benjamin Van Pham, DPM, provides experienced and knowledgeable foot care to patients of all ages. Dr. Van Pham and his team pride themselves on taking a proactive approach to foot health that doesn’t just encompass diagnostics, but expert care. He graduated from California State University, Hayward with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry in 1990. From there, he went to the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco, where he earned his medical degree in 1995. From 1998 to 2001, he served as an assistant professor at the California College of Podiatric Medicine where he enjoyed training and mentoring future podiatrists. He has also spent time working at the wound care clinic at Sutter Roseville Hospital. Since 1997, Dr. Van Pham has been licensed in California as a doctor of podiatric medicine. He has practiced in Placer County for over 18 years. He currently has hospital privileges at Sutter Roseville Hospital and El Camino Hospital.

Dr. Edward Yuan, Pharm D Edward Yuan earned his B.S. in biochemistry from the University of California at Riverside and later received his Pharm.D. degree from Creighton University. He has been a practitioner for 24 years in his field of pharmacy. He has a personal interest in biohacking and optimizing the human body to extend lifespan and health span. He is very passionate about teaching his patients on learning about living a healthy lifestyle and taking the upmost care of themselves.

Theresa Nguyen, B.S. Podiatry Resident Theresa is currently studying to receive her doctorate in podiatric medicine at the California School of Podiatric Medicine in Oakland. Prior to medical school, Theresa graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she received her bachelor’s of science degree in molecular and cellular biology. She has worked alongside various podiatrists and has been involved in several hours of research and development for private podiatry practices.

Monica Moelk, B.S. Monica Moelk received her B.S. in Biomedical Biology from CSU Sacramento and went on to furthering her career as a CCMBA in the dermatology field for the last four years. Her passion truly lies in the east meets west concept of preventative functional medicine. She handles everything from education, medical procedure training, payroll, appointment setting, and making sure our clients feel welcomed and well taken care of.

VITAMIN C Vitamin C is an essential part of skin health both as a small molecular weight antioxidant and as a critical factor for collagen synthesis. Vitamin C contributes to photoprotection, decreases photodamage, and is needed for adequate wound healing. Oral supplementation with vitamin C may help prevent UV-induced damage, especially in combination with supplemental vitamin E. Dietary vitamin C may also provide photoprotection, but the extent of the protective effects will require additional research. Topical application of vitamin C appears to be an effective route for delivering ascorbic acid to the skin because ascorbic acid appears to be taken up readily at an acidic pH. Despite inconsistencies in vitamin C preparations and study design, the data suggest that vitamin C is most effective in protecting against damage induced by UV light and also has utility in the treatment of photodamage and/or skin wrinkling.

VITAMIN B

Vitamin B is a key nutrient that helps your body's blood and nerve cells healthy, and helps construct the genetic material that makes DNA. B12 has also been studied to prevent anemia which is a blood condition that makes patients fatigued and feeble.

Vitamin B has been shown to be metabolically significant in the methylation process of DNA which helps create nerve and vascular endothelial cells. These cells' formation and maintenance are very important for a diabetic patient because they play a role in the severity of diabetic neuropathy and skin re-epithelialization. Both of these complications can severely effect the way of a life for a diabetic patient and Vitamin B12 supplementation has the ability to minimize neuropathy and promote healthy skin reepithelialization.

In studies, Vitamin B has also shown to decrease somatic symptoms such as nerve pain and paraesthesias, which can cause tingling and a "pins and needles" sensation in diabetic patients.

It is also known as an antiinflammatory agent because of its critical role in enhancing immune function. Vitamin A plays a huge roll in the immune system by regulating cellular immune responses and critical immune processes. Vitamin A has demonstrated many therapeutic effects in the treating of a wide range infectious diseases.

Vitamin A has the ability to influence cells to behave in a way that they regenerate themselves to become younger, healthier, creating a radiant glow on the skin. It also reduces the dark spots and pigmentation as well as promotes fibroblast production that is the key cell that produces collagen in the skin. Vitamin A also has the ability to promote faster healing and promote the body's natural ability to provide moisture to the skin.

ZINC Zinc plays an important role in skin health. It is needed for protein synthesis and wound healing and is a vital antioxidant. It also helps break down substance P, transports vitamin A from the liver and helps in the metabolism of omega 3s. Even mild deficiencies in zinc can impair collagen production, fatty acid metabolism and wound healing.

Zinc is needed for building keratin and for the formation of the skin’s structural protein – collagen. In fact collagen in the skin is produced by zinc-dependent enzymes called collagenases. Zinc is essential not only for the enzymes producing type 1 and type 3 dermal collagen but also for the cross-linking that gives collagen its durability and stability.

Human studies have shown that decreased zinc results in decreased total collagen. Skin contains a relatively high zinc content (5%), primarily found within the epidermis. Because of its abundance in the epidermis mild zinc deficiency rapidly leads to roughened skin and impaired wound healing.

GRAPE SEED EXTRACT Grape seed Extract has been proven to be beneficial for a multitude of cardiovascular diseases as such as chronic venous insufficiency otherwise known as poor circulation, and lowering cholesterol. It has also been studied to reduce swelling in diabetic patients. Grape seed extract contains the powerhouse of antioxidants, Vitamin C & E, which helps to improve skin texture and reduce signs of aging as well from UV light.
