Welcome to our sixth annual bull sale. It is a pleasure to have you! Your support enables us to continue to do what we are passionate about and we The Beechinor Family are so grateful for that! We are very thankful to continue to do what we are passionate about and without everyone’s support it would not be possible. Every year we aim to improve, and once again we feel that this may be our best set of bulls yet. Ultimately, we want to provide the commercial breeding industry with bulls that are on the cutting edge, in pedigree and type. As you will read throughout the comments, we are pleased with some reduction in birth weights, making these bulls more user friendly, but also extremely impressed with the growth these guys have attained. This being the heaviest set we’ve weaned to date. Our first calving heifers really shone this year and you will see the major influence of these cows not only on the 2018 edition of the bull sale but for many years to come. Even with the consistency in this set of bulls there are a variety of bulls for every unique need. In order to keep on the cutting edge of genetic progress, as well as offering a few new pedigree options to our loyal repeat customer base, we have added some exciting new sires to our existing, popular bull battery. These include walking herd bulls that grace our pastures as well as a few bulls that we purchased exclusive semen packages on. We take pride in the consistency throughout the pen as well as among sire groups. It makes viewing the bulls more enjoyable, but footnote writing difficult! We continue to put a major emphasis on strength in cow families, which is a common theme this year. All Fullbloods have been tested for the dilution gene. A non-dilutor bull will not throw grey calves when crossed on black cows. The bulls are being developed on a TMR of first cut hayledge, chopped grass hay and a starch free pellet. Our aim is to develop these bulls to maximize ADG without sacrificing longevity as best we can. This year we welcome the young breeder, Amanda Steffler of Skyline Simmentals to the bull sale. She’s a keen, hard working girl and her two bulls fit right in with the pen genetically and in type. Joining us once again is also Daryl and Roberta Renaud of DGR Cattle Co. They have been great friends and supporters of ours for many years. The female side of the sale has increased in numbers with a wide selection of heifers that will go forward and show great return on investment. These females are managed like we manage our own replacements. With the sale only being weeks before breeding season we want them to have the best chance at conceiving, so you won’t see much extra condition. On the commercial side it is likely the best set of females ever offered. We once again would like to thank everyone for their continued support through buying or bidding, neighbours lending a helping hand or our fellow purebred and commercial breeders that offer advice through their years of experience. All bulls and heifers that are remaining to be housed after the sale must be insured. Bulls will be housed free of charge until April 15, 2018. Animals will be delivered free of charge to points across Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. This will be done at the buyer’s convenience, however, if the truck is in your area you may be asked to take your bull early. We will do our utmost to deliver your bull to your yard.

EPD Explanation

EPD’s are “Expected Progeny Differences”. They are a useful tool in selection. EPD’s incorporate the individual animal with its ancenstry performance. EPD’s do no compare across cattle breeds. They are individual-based per breed. EPD’s indicate a probably variance above or below breed average for that trait for a given bull’s progeny. The accuracy of EPD’s for calendar year bull calves is generally about 20% (one out of five times) so use it cautiously as one of several selection tools. Welcome to the Beechinor Bros 6th Annual Sale - a great sale hosted by great people. The Beechinor’s have a way of making you feel welcome and comfortable all the time. They’ve become great friends and I’m so happy to see them have great success in something they are so passionate about. The huge benefactor of their passion is you, the buyer. The Beechinor’s are relentlessly searching for animals that will improve their herd in one aspect or another. That is why you will benefit from coming and purchasing bulls and females at this sale. I speak from firsthand experience here. I have bought bulls and heifers from this sale before working for Transcon. The bulls have improved my weaning weights substantially putting more money in my pockets, and the heifers are becoming top cow families in my own herd. The Beechinor’s have worked hard at raising maternally-strong bulls that will produce highly-regarded females and males, which are easycalving and possess tremendous growth. They have constantly and consistently sourced genetics through both walking and AI herd sires that meet these qualifications and more. The Fleckvieh bulls include Titanium, Climax, and Magnum with a few from Vicking, Philosophy and a Clancy. On the black side we have Reckless, Skors High Roller and Missile. The red herd sires include Missile, Cliffhanger, Deputy, Erixon High Roller and Commotion. The boys mentioned that the Fullblood bulls have been tested for the Non-dilutor gene, but what they didn’t tell you is that 31 out of the 33 are non-dilutors! They wouldn’t tell you because that’s how they are, humble. However I will tell you, that’s my job. John and Stefon have spent a lot of time, effort and money into improving their herd, especially their black and red cattle. Two years ago I believe the Beechinor’s offered the strongest set of black bulls they’ve ever had. Those bulls don’t hold a candle to the ones in this sale, in my opinion. How do you know a program is moving forward? Check how the heifers are producing. Just a quick glance at the black and red side, over a third of the bull calves are out of heifers! Very, very impressive! Just a note to the wise, do yourself a favour and check out lot #42…that’s my lil buddy Bob’s bull! Once again consigning to the sale are the always smiling Daryl and Roberta Renaud. The newbie to this year’s sale is Amanda Steffer, a young lady who has a good eye for cattle and maybe an even better work ethic. Welcome Amanda! Starting the catalog off we have this big performance Titanium son. Alloy is a large-framed, long-bodied bull who maintains good depth of body. He is a sire that will add growth to your bull calves. Solid pigmentation pattern with a great hip and strong top line. If you want to add maternal ability, look for Impact in the pedigree. He is mothered by one of these strong cows that we purchased from the Eagle-Ridge program. Ube is a dark red, deep-bodied cow with a nice udder. A very versatile bull here that is certainly one to circle. Non-dilutor

Zirconium is a soft-made, loose, hairy bull that is deep from his front shoulder through his flank. Like all the Titanium sons, he tracks out well on a nice set of feet. His dam is a productive cow with two daughters in the herd and a feature heifer calf that sold through this sale a couple years ago to Randy Ward. We purchased Titanium in partnership with Black Gold for $54,000 with the hopes that he would moderate birthweights but maintain growth. He met those expectations with his first calf crop. Cobalt is an intriguing bull, both on paper and in the flesh. His dam, Patricia, continues strong at the ripe age of 14 with a great udder and feet. She weaned Cobalt off at over 800lbs in the middle of August. Patricia might be most notable for being the mother of She Devil, however she has raised many top end progeny throughout her long life. Cobalt is extremely deep-bodied, with a big hind quarter, thick hair coat and smooth structure. He’s a personal favourite and a bull that will go on to be very influential however he is used. The consistency in type on these Titanium sons has and will continue to impress. Iron Ore is an eye appealing herd sire prospect that checks off all the boxes. From his strong pigment, hair coat and color to his overall mass and depth, he’s hard to fault. He’s a natural calf off a cow with one of the strongest production records in the herd. Sons have sold to Grinalta/Alta Genetics and Mullen Land & Cattle as well as one we retained for our own use. A daughter was our feature in 2016 Equation selling to Lone Stone as well as two daughters we retained after ranking them at the top of their respectable age groups. A 3/4 sibling to Iron Ore, Lot 4 (26E), Titus is a moderate-framed, thick bull with a very docile personality. Like the majority of the Titanium sons, Titus has a small birth weight and a smooth calving ease look to him. His dam is a photogenic cow that has produced many productive daughters in the herd. A feature heifer calf Lot 64 (707E) is mothered by one of these daughters as well as the previous Lot 4 (26E). Like I said before, if you want to add maternal ability into your herd, look to a bull with Impact in the pedigree. A larger-framed, longer-bodied Titanium son that is the youngest among this sire group. Iron Man packs the muscle onto this frame which led to him having one the heaviest adjusted 205 day weight in the sale. This is a bull that can add some jam into his calves but maintain a certain amount of calving ease to remain user friendly. His Tallahassee-sired dam is a farm favourite stemming from the Hendrika cow family, a maternal line that backs many of the top bulls in the sale. Iron Man will be Tinker Belle’s fourth consecutive bull to sell through the sale going to Gary Bieber, Willow Creek Colony and last year’s to O Double E Simmentals. Nickel is a well-balanced bull out of a top-end Viper daughter, purchased by DGR, out of the first sale we held on the farm. Viper sons were always popular in the bull sales and now his daughter’s ability to produce is being noticed. Ruby is a big-bodied cow with an excellent udder. Steel is a rugged-made bull with bone, big quarter, wide top and spring of rib. This loose-hided bull was picked out as a favourite by many visitors this summer. His dam was the high seller out of the inaugural Western Harvest. She’s a massive-barrelled cow that’s already showing she has the knack for raising the good ones. Her first bull calf sold to Watergrove Ranches in 2015 and this past December Skywest Simmentals selected her daughter for $19,500 out of Fleckvieh Equation. In what we feel is our strongest sets of bulls to date, Thorium stands out. He is super long-bodied, extremely smooth-fronted with a ton of natural muscling ability. Thorium is docile with a “look at me” attitude and a bull not to be overlooked by a little less pigment than some of his penmates. He’s the real deal. An embryo calf that weaned off at nearly 80% of his recip’s body weight, he has natural muscling in abundance. His mother is our outstanding Unbelievable 1U that has had previous high selling sons - Valor going to Anchor D and Ballistic to XRC. Non-dilutor

A super eye appealing, cherry red, fully-pigmented herd sire that catches the eye every time. He is extremely fluid in his movement with correct structure. You might recognize him from the cover of the sale catalog; clearly he is good from every angle. Smooth from the front, soft from the side with a wide hind end from the back. He’s the perfect blend of calving ease with doability. Lithium’s dam is an impressive dark red Radium daughter with a fancy, feminine build and square udder, out of a great cow family. A daughter was selected by Rosefield Simmentals. Non-dilutor

A flush mate brother to Lot 9 (301E). Both similar styles of bulls just in a bit more moderate package. He drew a shorter straw on the recip quality but is a strong prospect in his own right that’s made up some ground since weaning. He’s long-bodied with a strong top line, smooth-fronted with lots of hair and pigment. We can’t say enough about the quality of this cow family. Many of the top prospects in the sale (152E, 301E, 311E, 336E, 1E, 46E) go back to the Hendrika line. Non-dilutor

Titan is a ruggedly-built young bull with bone, thick muscle expression, sweeping rib cage and a cherry red, thick hair coat. Granum Colony purchased a maternal brother to Titan in 2016 that had many of the same attributes as this guy. Their dam is a dark red, large-framed, young power cow with a good udder and feet. We didn’t get a lot of Jericho daughters but the ones we did get look like difference makers. Much like his brothers, Titan shows great spread from birthweight to weaning weight.

Carbon is a moderate-framed, squarely-built, tanky bull that’s loaded with pigment and hair. His softness and build is very reminiscent of his sire, Titanium. Small birthweight and, like a couple of his other brothers, a bull that might deserve consideration in a heifer pen. Titanium was purchased to be used on mature cows but after consistently bringing birthweights down 20-30 lbs, we have been confidently using him in our heifer pen. He may be one of the easiest calvers we have utilized. Cabon’s dam is an attractive Bambam cow with a tidy udder. Non-dilutor

In terms of performance, Apex is a pen leader. One of the longest-spined bulls we’ve raised with a hind quarter and top typical of the Climax sire group. Heterozygous Polled - Heterozygous Black Dare Devil is a moderate-framed beef machine with a sharp, attention-grabbing blaze and a docile temperament. His small birth weight is combined with a rugged pound producing build and he is loaded with thick hair. A great calving ease prospect with a little 78lb birthweight but still an adjusted weaning weight over 800lbs. Skors High Roller was a $40,000 low birth weight bull that Robb Farms purchased from Skor Simmentals. We were very fortunate to get one of only two semen packages they offered. We could not be more happy with the results. Small birthweights with lots of growth. Roller 508E is no exception. A calving ease bull but with frame and length, which equals pounds. Great calving and birthweight epds right near the top of the breed. His dam is a large blaze faced first calver with a perfect udder and out of the Pixxy cow family we have had such success with.

As part of an education fund each child gets their pick of the bred heifer pen when they first go to school. Bob certainly knows how to pick them. Black Jack is the number one ranked bull for adjusted weaning weight at a whopping 943lbs. He is a smooth-structured bull with excellent conformation, muscling ability and tracks freely on the move. RPM is a big-framed, long-bodied bull that will not only leave a growthy set of steers, but daughters that will be able to raise those same types for years. Once again this fall we saw the heavy calves bring a large premium over their smaller counterparts. A good way to add some growth onto moderate cows is to use a bull like RPM. He is smooth-made and has a moderate birthweight. Revolution was a successful show bull for us but, more importantly, his calves rose to the top of both the bull and female pens. We have just a few straws of Revolution semen left, so here is a great opportunity to own a son. RPM’s dam is a greatuddered cow that goes back to our Pixxy 95P donor cow. Bootstrap 299E is a cherry red, blaze face bull with lots of hair. He’s smooth through his skull and shoulder with a little less bone, which all indicates calving ease. However, with a weaning weight pushing the mid 800’s, he’s not just one dimensional. Bootstrap is mothered by a tanky half Fleck cow. Despite being one of the youngest bulls in the sale by a couple of weeks, Mountain 357E is one of the fleshiest. He has a huge top, a long back and a large rear quarter. He is very sound moving. Homozygous Polled Destruction is a stylish, large-quartered, dark red bull that certainly gets noticed. Correct in his movement and in his makeup, it is no wonder this thick, long-bodied bull has been a favourite. Commotion did a great job for us with sons always being in high demand by purebred and commercial breeders. His daughters are really coming to the forefront and his legacy will continue to be felt for many years. Destruction has an interesting pedigree that would be outcross to many.
