Tramadol pain killer for the effective treatment of migraine headaches
Migraines are severe and painful headaches that tend to come and go and are often associated with nausea and sensitivity to light and sound. In 2005, a study was carried out to compare tramadol and a placebo for the management of acute migraine pain. The study involved 305 participants who suffered from migraine headaches and 154 were given tramadol while the remaining 151 took the placebo. The researchers found that the treatment response for subjects in the tramadol pain killer group was considerably higher after 6 hours with 64.9 percent likely to respond well. The conclusion of the study was that tramadol reduces the severity of pain and sensitivity to light and sound associated with migraine headache. How does tramadol work? Tramadol works by changing the way pain signals that travel between the nerves and the brain are processed. It binds to opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord which are responsible for pain relieving effects. The second important mechanism of tramadol is that it increases levels of serotonin and norepinephrine. These neurotransmitters act as messengers between nerve cells by enhancing the effect of them, allowing pain to be reduced.
Tramadol drug dosage guidelines The tramadol pain killer dosage should be adjusted according to the intensity of your individual pain sensitivity. Take one to two capsules three to four times a day for acute pain. For chronic pain, take one or two capsules at first, followed by one to two capsules every four to six hours depending on the severity of your pain. 
Do not take more than 400mg in 24 hours as this may increase the risk of unwanted side effects.

If you forget to take a dose, do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
