TRALEE GETS INTO THE HABIT OF WINNING! GARVEY’S SUPERVALU TRALEE WIN NATIONAL STORE OF THE YEAR CROWN Retail Excellence, Ireland’s largest retail representative body, announced Garvey’s SuperValu Tralee as the National Store of the Year at their 20th Annual Retail Awards in association with Barclaycard last weekend.

They also won the Supermarket of the Year Award. The glittering Awards ceremony took place in the Malton Hotel, Killarney.

TV personality Hector Ó hEochagáin presided over the evening’s events as host where 600 top Irish retailers converged on Killarney for the event.

The Retail Excellence Annual Awards were established in 1997 to promote best practice and encourage the highest standards in the Irish Retail Industry. They are now the largest and most prestigious of their kind in Ireland.

A total of 9 main awards were presented at the event in categories varying from Store of the Year,

Website of the Year, Supplier of the Year and a Lifetime Achievement Award and further awards were given out to the sectoral winners.

Commenting on the win CEO of Retail Excellence, David Fitzsimons said “Winning the title of National Store of the Year is a huge endorsement for any retailer and is recognition of all the hard work and dedication from the winner, Garvey’s SuperValu Tralee. TRALEE CROWNED OVERALL WINNER AT BANK OF IRELAND’S NATIONAL ENTERPRISING TOWN AWARDS Winner presented with €23,000 cash prize to further develop enterprise in Tralee Tralee has been announced as the overall winner of the 2017 Bank of Ireland National Enterprising Town Awards. Tralee will receive a €23,000 prize fund to invest in the further development of enterprise in the town.

The judges chose Tralee as the overall winners due to the immense collaboration they experienced while visiting the town from local business groups and the wider community along with an overwhelming sense of purpose and pride from those living, working and doing business in Tralee.

Other winners of the National categories were Docklands (Dublin) Cootehill (Cavan) and Carrick-on-Shannon (Leitrim) who received €8,000 each in funding for their town.

Bank of Ireland’s National Enterprising Town Awards aims to assist in the promotion of enterprise across the country by bringing business and community groups together to showcase to a panel of judges the spirit of enterprise in their local area. A total of 38 towns shared in the prize fund on the night.

Bank of Ireland launched a national competition to find the country’s most enterprising town following the success of a pilot Enterprising Town competition last year.

Bank of Ireland’s National Enterprising Town Awards aims to assist in the promotion of enterprise across the country by bringing business and community groups together to showcase to a panel of judges, the spirit of enterprise in their local area.

awards in total, plus trophies (total prize fund €110,000), with the overall winning town or city village/area awarded €23,000 plus trophy and the significant title of Ireland’s Most Enterprising Town.

The local authorities assisted in the nomination of towns, cities and villages/areas on

behalf of their own city or county. Entries were accepted throughout May and June with nominated towns announced last July. The judging panel then visited all nominated places throughout the month of September before announcing the winners at the awards ceremony last night

With everybody’s mind switching to full on Christmas mode and trying to sort out presents and decorations it’s so important to pick items that are suitable and safe, especially for young children.

Toys with the CE mark are the only ones you should consider as retailers are meant to ensure that the toys they sell are safe and if it doesn’t have the CE mark, don’t buy it! The CE mark shows that the toy meets the required safety standards. It is the responsibility of retailers to ensure that the toys they sell are safe. There are exact and comprehensive rules in Ireland and the EU to protect children from playing with unsafe toys. Since 1990, legislation has been in place in Ireland which prohibits the placing of toys on the market unless they meet minimum safety requirements.

The following information should be visible when choosing your toys : The CE mark, Name, trade mark and address of the manufacturer, the agent or importer within the European Union, Instructions for use, advice on the safe use of the toy (such as unsuitable for children under 36 months). In relation to buying online It is clear that only buy within the EU. Check out these tips when buying toys. Watch out for the age range – especially the all-important 0 to 3 years. Watch out for easily broken or detachable small parts – these can pose a choking hazard. Watch out for toys with sharp edges, long cords or cables. Toys with foldaway parts or small holes can be dangerous to a child as they can trap little fingers. Watch out for chargers – these are all over a modern household and you need to be aware of the risks. Poor quality chargers can cause electrocution, rick going on fire, or damaging electronic equipment. When you buy a charger, if it feels very light, or if the USB port is up-side-down or if any words on the charger are spelled incorrectly then avoid!

Decorations are an integral part of Christmas but can be a hazard too.

Only buy decorations from a reputable dealer, ones that break easily can be sharp and cause a nasty cut.

Never put a naked flame near a Christmas tree, the tree will be very dry from being in your house and will be easily combustible.

Christmas stocking on the fire place are a lovely festive tradition but it’s so important to keep them out of reach of children and well away from the fire.

It is the middle of November and many of us are already panicking about all the temptation during Christmas,how we will cope and have already given up in our minds. If we truly think we will fail, well then we certainly will.

Surviving Christmas is all about sticking to routine and being consistent in the lead up to it. Believe me food is there to be enjoyed and if we demonise food and see it as BAD or GOOD ,those labels will mess with our thinking and in our own head when we then eat these so called BAD foods we feel the damage is done,we may as well keep going as it is hopeless ,so we keep eating, throw caution to the wind and continue to eat until we are ready to explode!!

I prefer to rate food as how it makes me feel..energised,full,satisfied,bloated,tired, giving me cravings... It is said what we eat today will determine how we feel tomorrow, so not all food is equal. My advice is that if you want a mince pie,eat a mince pie, but eat is slowly, savour it,enjoy it,choose the best quality and when you are finished do not feel guilty. To be mindful of food at Christmas is very important. Always be aware of what you eat rather than mindlessly dipping your fingers into the box of Roses every time you pass by... as this gives zero satisfaction and does not actually register with us .

At the end of the day Christmas is only a few days of the year,it is a time to relax, enjoy good food and the company of friends and family and should not be feared in any way. For a better Christmas I would advise starting each morning with cooled boiled water and lemon,eat a good breakfast,do not skip meals and never go to any function hungry and drink your water.If you try to follow the 80/20 rule you can still have your treats and enjoy a guilt free Christmas so when January rolls around you are continuing your fitness journey rather than trying to loose that pesky 1/2 stone you gained by pure mindless eating and over indulgence.

So for me and all in Nutrifit for Women we wish you and your families a Happy,Healthy and Safe Christmas.

Windows 10 Is a great improvement on the previous versions but if you go through the Microsoft’s 12,000-word service agreement , we’re pretty sure it says you can’t steal Windows or use Windows to send spam, and also that Microsoft retains the right to take possession of your first-born child if it so chooses.!! And that’s only one of several documents you’ll have to read. For example, it says 'we will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content '(such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in private folders. So how do we protect ourselves? First, you will want to open Settings and click on Privacy. There, you will find 13 different screens — yes, 13 !— to go through, and you will want to disable anything that seems worrying. The blog notes that most of the important settings can be found on the General tab, though other tabs are important as well. For example, you will definitely want to adjust what types of data each app on your system can access. You can also download a program called Spybot Anti-Beacon, which will help you turn off the most important ones.

My Saorview TV Signal keeps going off

I had a lot of calls during the week about loss of signal from Saorview ......the reason for this is that their essential maintenance been carried out on the Knockmoyle transmitter which covers the Tralee area. The works should be completed by 17 November according to the Saorview website. Saorview is launching a new set top box called “Saorview Connect” which will enable you to watch on demand content and also will have a 7-day EPG Guide for Saorview,. You can also get 'free to satellite' but at present the EPG for the satellite will only give you 'now' and 'next.' There will be a software upgrade in mid 2018, which hopefully improves the EPG for satellite.

Over the past few decades, it’s been rare to see a modern day home that doesn’t use open-plan living to create a sense of space, sociability, functionality and versatility for cooking, dining, entertainment and the likes. This type of living serves it purpose but has its downfalls, from heating the space, lacking privacy, looking messy to cooking smells and high noise levels.

The solution is Broken-Plan Living. It is all about clever use of space to still offer versatility and connectivity, but at the same time privacy.

This works by creating separate zones within the living space by utilising various floor finishes, split-levels, low level walls, free standing furniture such as bookcases or screens. These clever divides still achieve connectivity and the spacious feel of the open-plan arrangement, but provides a greater sense of separation, for those people still desiring their own space.

Here are three main factors in Broken-Plan Living Light – whilst it seeks to solve the noise dilemma, preserving the same flow of natural light as open plan is key. Roof-lights are a good way to allow the sun to reach all areas of a house, as are glazed screen doors.

Levels - Mezzanines are a beneficial way of creating extra room in homes, but they can also act as a visual distinction between zones that serve different purposes; working particularly well for kitchen and living areas.

Look - If making permanent, structural changes is not an option, décor and furniture can help achieve a broken-plan layout. They can play a key part in how the spaces in your home are used.

HEARING LOSS IN CHILDREN: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Nothing can quite prepare us for a serious health problem or condition, particularly when it comes to our children.

Hearing difficulty or loss can be particularly baffling and frustrating for parents – if you can’t communicate properly with them, how are you to know what they are feeling or thinking?

The important thing to remember, however, is that there are professionals and services who can help you and your child. Remember diagnosing and dealing with your child’s condition doesn’t have to be so daunting.

How will your child’s hearing loss manifest?

Hearing difficulty can be classed into four main categories: 1. Mild: A child with mild hearing loss is likely to display difficulty following speech, especially in noisy situations. It can also be difficult for them to hear certain speech sounds ...as a result, their speech development may be affected.

2. Moderate: A child with moderate hearing loss displays much the same symptoms as a child in the ‘mild’ category, only here, they may also have difficulty hearing other quiet noises.

3. Severe: A child with severe hearing loss may struggle to hear speech, They may also be unable

to hear environmental noise such as traffic, and could find it difficult to develop speech without amplification.

4. Profound: A child with profound hearing loss is unlikely to be able to hear most sounds, unless they are very loud. The child will be unaware of speech sounds, and will be unable to develop speech without amplification. As some patients find hearing aids to be less effective, they may need to consider cochlear implants.

Getting diagnosed: If you are concerned that your child may have hearing difficulty ...The best option is to book a hearing assessment for your child, with a trained professional.

After listening to your concerns, the audiologist will explain what is going to happen during the assessment in simple,terms . They will then carry out an age-appropriate tests, providing feedback and recommendation as well as a list of resources for your own reference.

How you can deal with the diagnosis: While your child’s assessment results can be overwhelming, it’s important to know that there is plenty you can do to help them and the family with the next step.

7. Don’t cover your mouth, speak clearly, and use normal lip movements as well as natural facial expressions and gestures.

HELLO MY STRONG STRONG FRIENDS, I HOPE YOU’RE ALL HAVING AN AMAZING WEEK!

it’s now just over 5 weeks until Christmas… and we all know what that means…

I’m 100% in the spirit and no one can stop me! My first ‘Christmas night out’ is this weekend so I thought this would be pretty apt.

Yes, it’s Christmas Season. Yes, you might have 7 different nights out with 50 different people you haven’t seen in years, and yes you might have one(or 7) too many, stay up way past your bedtime and insist on getting curry chips on the way home. It’s the Festive Season it happens. What is very important, is that you have some sort of fitness balance and you don’t go into, “feck it I’ll start in January” mode from now on.

Here are my top tips to ensure that doesn’t happen…

Plan your “big nights”: You’ve your annual lunch with the girls, the staff party, couples night out and you’ve been invited to more things than you can count. You know you’re going to be going hard and do every single one of those 12 pubs, and Jesus, John is feckin home from Oz after two years next Tuesday so we’ll have to hit the pub then, and we all know it’s just plain rude not to go out St Stephen’s night.

So, pick your “big nights”, and

stick to them. During the day before them stay hydrated, eat a good breakfast and monitor what you have during the day better(1 pack of taytos instead of 10), and try to get some form of a workout in, 20 mins HIIT cardio, a walk with the dog, ANYTHING. Stay active: Do not, I repeat, Do NOT, walk out of the gym(leave behind your exercise regime) because “Feck it, it’s Christmas now” and return on the second of JANUARY… well you can but 1) The gym will be packed the second of January and 2) You will not thank yourself, trust me. We all know Christmas is coming, it’s cold and dark and you’re tired, and yes you don’t have to go to the gym for 2 hours everyday, no one is asking you to, BUT, that doesn’t mean you can lie on the couch with a can of roses for 4 weeks, get out, walk the dog, do a few squats, a workout video on YouTube, go ice skating, anything to keep active at least 3 times a week. It’s not much and you will thank yourself in January when everyone is starting their new stupid lettuce diets and freaking out that bikini season(lol Ireland) is only a few months away!

HYDRATE: WATER WATER WATER. The least you can do in between the 12 pubs and mulled wine is drink AT LEAST 2-3 litres of water a day. It will help your body, skin, and energy levels. Dehydration is pretty on nobody.

Don’t wait ‘til January: ‘Ah sure Mary it’s basically December now, too late anyway to start sure it’s practically January we’ll start then”... NO MARY. If you have that mindset you will 1) Eat yourself into a food baby, 2) Put off starting in January ‘til February(Sure isn’t it Women’s Christmas the 6th), 3) Put on lots on unwanted weight. I’m not saying you should skip out on Christmas dinner, but you can make on conscious effort to not eat a 20 pack box of cheese and onion taytos whilst dreaming of the tin of celebrations for dessert after downing a good two bottles of wine since yesterday. And I know it’s Christmas and I know it’s a time for fun, but that doesn’t mean you’ve to let yourself go like kid in a candy store. If you have a little too much one day, balance it out by watching what you eat the next day, it’s all about moderation.

I hope you enjoyed my light hearted tips on how to not completely lose the run of yourself this year, but if you do… You better have a kick ass plan for January, next summer is going to be ALL about the fit toned gym bodies with amazing bums, just remember that before you eat that third helping of Christmas pudding!

Sweets for my Sweet!!!

With December nearly upon us, its a time when family and friends start calling . So its good to have a few desserts to hand or ones that are quick to make! here are a few ideas to impress the neighbours and friends .

MINI CHOCOLATE-HAZELNUT CHEESECAKES INGREDIENTS • • • • • • • • •

15 cream-filled chocolate sandwich cookies 2 tablespoons raw or roasted hazelnuts, skinned 2 tablespoons butter, softened 8 ounces cream cheese 3/4 cup hazelnut-chocolate spread, preferably Nutella 1/2 cup sour cream 2 large eggs 2 tablespoons sugar 2 tablespoons mini chocolate chips

METHOD Preheat the oven to 160. Line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners. Spray the liners with vegetable oil spray.

In a food processor, combine the cookies, hazelnuts and butter and process to very fine crumbs. Divide the crumbs among the cups and, using a flat-bottomed glass, press on the crumbs to compact them. Bake for 5 minutes.

Meanwhile, wipe out the food processor bowl. Add the cream cheese, Nutella, sour cream, eggs and sugar and puree until smooth. Spoon the filling into the cups until it nearly reaches the top; there may be a few tablespoons of leftover batter. Sprinkle the chocolate chips on top and bake for about 20 minutes, until the cheesecakes have risen and the surfaces are lightly cracked. Let the cheesecakes cool slightly, then transfer the muffin tin to a rack and freeze for 10 minutes, until the cheesecakes are slightly cooled. Serve chilled or at room temperature.

BERRY FOOL WITH BLACK PEPPER INGREDIENTS • • • • • •

1 1/3 cups fresh raspberries (6 ounces), or the same quantity of frozen raspberries, thawed 1/2 cup sugar 1 teaspoon fresh-ground black pepper 3 tablespoons Grand Marnier or other orange liqueur 1 1/2 cups heavy cream 1 punt strawberries (1 pound), 4 reserved, the rest hulled and halved

METHOD In a small saucepan, combine the raspberries and sugar. Cook over low heat, covered, stirring occasionally, until the berries are soft and the sugar dissolved, 5 to 10 minutes. Strain into a medium bowl, pressing the berries to get all the juice. Stir in the pepper. Chill until completely cold, about 20 minutes. Stir in the Grand Marnier. In a large bowl, beat the cream just until it holds firm peaks when the beaters are lifted.

Fold in the raspberry mixture and the halved strawberries until just combined. Serve in stemmed glasses or bowls, topped with the reserved whole strawberries.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: COMPLAINTS ABOUT HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE PROFESSIONALS Question How can I find out whether a particular health and social care professional is regulated? I’m not happy with my treatment and I would like to make a complaint.

Answer CORU is the regulator for health and social care professionals. It sets standards that practitioners must meet and maintains and publishes a register of practitioners who meet those standards. This register is currently under development. The system of statutory registration will eventually apply to 15 professions, regardless of whether the practitioner works in the public or private sector or is self-employed. CORU also handles complaints about the fitness to practise of registered practitioners – for example, complaints of professional misconduct or poor professional performance.

Currently, the registers for the following professions are in effect: • Dietitians • Dispensing opticians • Occupational therapists • Optometrists • Physiotherapists • Radiographers and radiation therapists • Social workers • Speech and language therapists You can make a complaint to CORU about a practitioner registered in one of these areas. You can check the registers at coru.ie. Once all registers are open they will also include clinical biochemists, medical scientists, orthoptists, podiatrists, psychologists and social care workers.

You can get further information about the fitness to practise complaints process on the website coru.ie. To make a complaint about a registered practitioner, you need to download and complete the Fitness to Practise Complaint Form. For information about how to make a complaint about practitioners of health and social care professions that are not regulated by CORU, see the website, healthcomplaints.ie.

TORQUING CARS! TESLA OPENS SECOND SUPERCHARGER ...

AND THERE ARE TWO MORE ON THE WAY

TESLA has just opened the country’s second supercharger at the Applegreen, Birdhill site on the M7 - one of the busiest motorway service stations in the country.

The Junction 27 site has eight bays, which means you should easily be able to drive a Tesla from Dublin to Limerick and well beyond without worrying about battery charge. The supercharger will replenish half a battery in 20 minutes.

Also being lined up are superchargers at Enfield and Lisburn in the North.

The Tesla move follows the separate announcement, revealed last week, that up to six more high-power charging (HPC) stations will be built here next year with as many as six charge points at each ‘super’ site.

It is part of a major agreement to substantially expand the charge network across Europe. In Ireland, the deal involves Topaz installing between four and six HPCs at strategic locations(Indo Motoring).

WHY DIESEL ISN’T DEAD ... AND HOW IT’S GOT YEARS LEFT IN THE TANK

TOYOTA say diesel has had its day. Their ad says simply: “Diesel is dead”.

Toyota sell a lot of petrol and petrol-hybrid cars.

Peugeot say diesel is NOT dead. Not by a long shot.

If it is dead, they ask, how come Toyota are using Peugeot diesel engines (1.6-litre and 2-litre) in their PROACE van range?

Peugeot sell a lot of diesel and petrol cars and vans.

The opposing viewpoints are shaped by different products and visions of immediate as well as longer-term trends.

And they came into sharp focus this week when, by any standards, Toyota’s claim got a serious shaking by Colin Sheridan, sales and marketing director at Gowan Distributors, who import Peugeots.

Mr Sheridan, highly respected within the industry, fired the withering broadside at the launch of his company’s new (Peugeot) 5008 SUV sevenseater. The new car has, among other engines, a 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.6-litre diesel (no, it doesn’t have a hybrid - not yet anyway).

Diesel, Mr Sheridan argued, remains hugely important - vital even - for those living in rural areas and for anyone doing 15,000kms a year. Petrol is fine for city dwellers and those doing under 15,000kms, he said.

Then he fired another broadside. He claimed the taxes we pay on new diesel and petrol vehicles (an average of €8,000 to €9,000) are subsidising the rebates and grants on hybrids and electric vehicles.

His argument, and tone, were those of someone calling a reality check.

Sure, he said, there will be and should be a drift to electrification. That is the way of things. But there are major, and key, roles to be played - for eminently practical reasons - by both diesel and petrol for a long time yet(Indo Motoring)

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR DANISH PASTING LEADS SOUR TASTE: As most people know my involvement in soccer administration it is expected that I comment on our crashing out of the World Cup at the hands of Denmark.

We all know that sport can be cruel and that when you think things are going your way something very small can swing things totally against you.

We were 1-0 up and had two great chances to make it 2-0 which would have certainly made it much more difficult for Denmark.

Then the players done something that had not done during the qualifying group or the first leg in Denmark – gave away poor defensive goals.

Cyrus Christie was on the post for the corner but when the ball came across the box he had taken a step to his right and therefore was unable to get back to prevent the ball trickling over the line. Indeed before the ball ever got across the box Ireland made the cardinal error of sending one defender out when they had two players over the corner.

We then needed a leader to galvanise the squad as there was almost an hour to play and we just needed to score one more. But we went gung-ho and Stephen Ward lost the ball. In a split second Eriksen had the ball in the net and we were in big trouble.

But still if we could equalise it was game on again. However Martin O’Neill took a gamble with his formation and then with his changes at half time and we all now know the outcome.

It was tough to watch and hard to take afterwards but in truth they exploited the space, were more skilful on the ball, loved the perfect pitch at the Aviva and were Eriksen was clinical. Couple that with the fact that Seamus Coleman, Jonathan Walters and James McCarthy were unavailable and it turned into the perfect tsunami and the dream was over.

We did well to get to the playoffs from fourth seed in the group. We showed all the heart and commitment that Irish teams always do but this game was one

too far and we now join Italy, Holland, the US, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland on the couch next summer as the biggest show on earth goes on without us.

2018 will be a rebuilding year with no competitive games – bar this new European League – so this will give the management time to blood new players ahead of the Euro’s in 2020. And of course the big carrot here is that if we qualify at least 2 games will be played in Dublin at the tournament.

FRANCE SPRING TO THE FRONT AND GET RUGBY WORLD CUP 2023: All the work by the Bid Committee led by Dick Spring in putting together the bid to host the Rugby World Cup 2023 has been in vain as France have been awarded the tournament. Once we came third in the report by the Technical Committee which criticised our stadia and broadband infrastructure the hope was that we could still put things out of the hat at the vote by the rugby coutries.

Ireland pinned their hopes on South Africa not getting the required 20 of the 39 votes and therefore with France going out as the third country we could win a run-off vote against the South African’s. Again our Bid Committee read this all wrong and it was France the obviously got more than the 20 votes required. Indeed from the social media site it seems we got just 8 votes in the first round – yes 8 from 39. The first round saw France with 18, South Africa with 13 and our 8. We were then eliminated and in the second round it was France getting 24 and South Africa 15.

With France hosting in 2023 it means that it will be pointless for us to bid for 2027 as the tournament won’t be in Europe twice in succession.

I said in a previous article that we dodged a bullet in not getting this tournament and I still believe this. Credit to the GAA for putting forward their stadia for the bid but do we really need to spend multi millions to make them all seated for a three week tournament. This and the other big investments needed in my opinion would not Friday 17th November 2017

give the legacy value some say after the tournament. And I bet that the summer of 2023 will be just a busy tourist wise and we will not miss the tournament too much apart from the hype of the week or two it would have been in the county.

GRUELLING TRAINING SESSIONS MEANS ORTHOPAEDIC PROBLEMS FOR YOUNG PLAYERS: Anyone involved in underage sport or any parent of a teenage player should read the Irish Independent article by Dr. Patrick Carton where he make the point that ‘gruelling’ training sessions for growing numbers of teenage GAA, soccer and rugby players are forcing them to have hip surgery at a very young age.

Dr Carton works out of the Whitfield Clinic in Waterford and is concerned about the amount of training 12 to 17 year olds are doing.

He says that he operated on a 15 year old who had to have both hips done. The teenager is on the county minor panel. Personally I believe this is very wrong. Minor at the moment is under 18 so this player – the Doctor did not say what county he was from – is three year younger than those that are tackling him.

Doctor Carton says that there is nothing wrong with training for an hour three or four times as week but many are training up to four times a week at full intensity and coming home feeling broken and are stiff for the next two days.

It is certainly something that needs further investigation as does some of the worrying testimonials that is now coming out from soccer players regarding heading of the ball. This is something that we will return to at a later date.

ALWAYS NICE TO SEE THE BOOKIES BEATEN! Having only reported on a Kerry punter who turned their €1 EuroMillions bet into €33,0001, another Kerry native has hit the jackpot, this time from their racing bets.

TRACK SUPPORTERS CLUB FINAL THE HIGHLIGHT AT THE TRACK: This Friday night at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium it’s the final of the Track Supporters Club A3 525 yards plus the first round heats of the Red Mills Open Unraced Bitch Stake. The normal SIS meeting takes place on Saturday night with the first of 8 off at 10.03am.

There is no racing on this Saturday night but the Stadium will be open to show all the racing from Shelbourne Park for the Night of the Stars with full tote and bar facilities.

The track is now taking entries for the T Nolan CVRT Test Centre Kingdom Derby for 36 AAO Greyhounds which starts on December 1st with a winner’s prize of e7000.

TOP KERRY CREW THIRD IN BANNA: Kerry debutant Cavan driver Garry Kieran and co-driver Keith Moriarty from Limerick enjoyed an almost perfect Banna Beach Winter Stages Rally to win by nearly two minutes. This excellently organised days rallying saw Tom Relihan and Maurice McElligott take third place in their beautiful Ford Escort Mark 1. This was a special day for Car Number 17 as they won the Donal O’Flaherty memorial trophy for their first time in 17 years of trying.

Their fellow Kerry driver Tim Enright took 4th and won his Class but was pipped for the overall Top Part West Coast Championship by Maguire who he had to finish in front of.

Mike Quinn and Tony Healy took 5th and won Class 15 and Mike will also be happy that his daughter Katie also made it to the finish in only her second drive.

GARVEY’S TRALEE WARRIORS FEEL THE FULL FORCE OF SWORDS THUNDER: Griffith College Swords Thunder 88 Garvey’s Tralee Warriors 59 This was another disappointing result according to club PRO Alan Cantwell. Warriors hoped to bounce back from their previous defeat but apart from Pemberton with 24 and Donaghy 18 points the rest of the team did not contribute as much as they and coach Bernsen would hoped they would.

The home side were coming off the back of the defeats so certainly needed to get a result against Warriors and led 21-19 at the end of the first quarter and had the gap out to 17 points at the break. Swords led 50-33 and in truth the game was well over at the end of the next ten minutes as Tralee were down 32 points 7038. Warriors never gave up and did make some inroads in the final quarter through Quigley, Pantovic, Pemberton, Dusan Bogdanovic and a three from captain Darren O’Sullivan but it was too little too late. For Warriors Trae Pemberton top scored with 28 followed by Kiernan 18 and Goran Pantovic 7.

Next up for the Garvey’s Tralee Warriors is the visit of last season’s League champions Black Amber Templeogue including the likes of Jason Killeen, Mike Bonaparte, Neil Randolph and Lorcan Murphy next Saturday night in what promises to be another evening of drama and excitement at the Tralee Sports Complex. Tip off as usual is at 8 o’clock.

ST BRENDAN’S BASKETBALL NEWS: In the Lee Strand Academy Boys Division 1St Brendan’s beat TK Bobcats 13-10. The u11 boys showed some great skills and were 9-2 ahead at the break. The Tralee boys increased their lead in the third quarter but had to withstand a Bobcats fight back in the fourth.

St Brendan’s were too strong for Tralee Imperials in the Lee Strand u18 Division 1 as they won 70-38.

Both sides were fast out of the blocks with St Brendan’s leading 16-11at the end of the first quarter and continued to build the lead. In other results St Brendan’s won away to TK Bobcats 46-35 in the Lee Strand Boys u16 Division 1 while it was the other way round in the Lee Strand Academy Girls Division 1 as Bobcats won 38-8.

FENIT POLAR PLUNGE: Saturday December 9th between 11am and 2pm sees the Polar Plunge taking place at Fenit. The

Plunge is in aid of athletes who take part in the Special Olympics across Munster. TRALEE DYNAMOS NEWS: There were over 60 young players at the Academy session in the IT College despite the wet and windy conditions. The Academy will train again this Friday evening from 6 to 7pm at the North Campus.

BALLYMAC THE BOYS: Ballymac Galaxy were the winners of the Tralee Inter Firm soccer tournament which saw 18 teams taking part and the proceeds going to the Kerry Cancer Support Group’s Kerry Cork Health Link Bus. In the Shield final Continuum Commerce Solutions got the better of a Naries team while Na Gaeil Northsiders were the runners up in the final that was played in the legendary Low Field.

KERRY NOT TAKING PART IN MCGRATH CUP: Defending McGrath Cup champions Kerry will not take part in the McGrath Cup as they feel the schedule would interfere with their League preparations.

Tipperary have also opted out.

this week at the death of Club President Eileen Cotter (nee O’Connor) who passed away peacefully in the Bon Secours Hospital Tralee. Eileen had been our Club president since 2012 and as well as being a great supporter of the current Parnells club Eileen’s father (Jerry ‘Unke’ O Connor) was part of the Parnells team that won county hurling championships almost a century ago. Tralee Parnells were honoured to have members of our Club Executive provide a Guard of Honour at the funeral, in recognition of the strong links between our club and the Cotter and O’Connor families. Our club will remember Eileen Cotter at our upcoming awards night and AGM this month.

The Club Awards Night will take place this Friday night in the Rose Hotel for all the clubs hurling and camogie players and their families.

The AGM of Tralee Parnells will take place on Friday the 24th of November 2017 at KOR GAA. Officer reports for the year to be forwarded to the secretary as soon as complete.

Tralee Parnells amongst first official GAA Healthy Clubs to receive national recognition.

The award winning Healthy Clubs Project (HCP) aims to turn clubs into hubs for health in their communities. The club and Kerry’s only other accredited club Beaufort can fly a flag above their grounds.

Winter hurling for boys and girls is underway every Tuesday at the Complex and runs for the next four weeks with the cost per child being e10.

Parnells Anti-Bullying workshop takes place on Wednesday November 22nd at 7.30pm in Na Gaeil.

Workshop For U14, U16 Club Coaches: Athletic Development Coaching Workshop for U-14, U-16 club hurling coaches in the Green CBS Hall, Tralee on Monday 20th November from 7 to 8 pm, further details available from David O Dea, Games Development Administrator for Hurling in South Kerry.

KERRY CAMOGIE NEWS: Clanmaurice are celebrating their AIB All Ireland Junior Club semi-final over Athleague from Roscommon. The girls are now through to the All Ireland Junior Club final in two weeks – surely the first Kerry side to do so since Kerry won an All-Ireland back in the 30’s? In the final on November 26th they will face Kilmessan from County Meath.

The Kerry Camogie County Board AGM will take place on Monday December 4th at 8.30pm in Austin Stack Park. The Board is holding a Christmas Draw and will welcome all support.

HISTORIC DATE FOR ST BRENDAN’S NS: As we go to print St Brendan’s will be playing their first ever Cumann na mBunscoil final as they contest the Plate final in the 4/5 teacher category. They have already beaten Abbeydorney, Kilmoyley and Glenderry plus Novahal in the Shield semi-final. Their captain Donagh Murphy and his squad are looking forwards to an exciting game against Loreto NS. ST PAT’S NEWS: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 1,24,25 and 26 and the next Jackpot this Sunday will be e4,900 in Keane’s Bar. The clubs Juvenile AGM will take place on Friday November 24th at 7.30pm in the Community Rooms and all interested parties are invited to attend.

The clubs Senior AGM will take place on Sunday, the 3rd of December at 3pm in our Community Rooms. All motions and nominations for officers can be sent to Conor Culloo.

All registered club members are advised to attend.

KERINS O’RAHILLY’S NEWS: Senior AGM: Club AGM will be held on Friday night 1st December at 8pm in the club house. Any nominations or motions must be lodged with the Secretary by no later than 5 pm on Friday this 17th November. The Juvenile AGM was held last weekend with all outgoing officers returned unopposed.

Mental Fitness in Sport: The opening night in conjunction with State of Mind Ireland takes place this Friday night 17th November in the Healy Rooms at 8pm. The club are delighted that co- founders Drs Martin & Susan Lawlor will be present to speak on a variety of topics relating to mental health.

The u12 Girls enjoyed a great day out in Cork while the u14’s were presented with their medals for the County, North Kerry and Town Leagues. Clodagh Donnelly was named as the Player of the Year at u16’s.

There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn with the Jackpot now reaching a sweet e10,000.

ON THE GREEN – TRALEE: In the Der O’Sullivan sponsored 14 hole Hamper the winner was Sean Carmody with Pat O’Donnell second and Michael Leahy third.

In the Ladies section Kathleen Finnegan was the winner of the Singles Stableford. Mary Fitzgerald was second and Catherine McCarthy third. Sunday’s 14 hole tournament was won by Emma Morrissey who was just ahead of Sandra O’Sullivan and Mary Savage.
