NOISY NEIGHBOURS Heather and Phil have been living in their estate for 7 years now, they are very happy there as it is such a great place to raise their children, unfortunately their neighbour has rented out his house and new tenants have moved in that are making noise all night. What exactly are Heather and Phil’s options in this matter?

Miriam says ; The first thing they should do is talk to their neighbour about the noise and explain how it is affecting them and their children – it may be wise to keep a diary of any contacts including date and time, content of the conversation, tone of the conversation etc. Keeping a noise diary is important for them also, it can help to build a better picture of the disturbance if they include times, length, and the effect it had on them, like if it disturbed their sleep, if other neighbours heard the noise, if it woke up their children. Their isn’t really a need to involve the Gardaí at this stage so after direct contact with the tenants Heather and Phil should contact the owner of the property and if the owner/Landlord does not sort it out they would then go to the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB). The RTB has been invaluable for taking pressure off the the Courts for the vast majority of Landlord and Tenant disputes. It has a quasi-judicial role, so the RTB remains strictly impartial and does not provide advice to either party in dispute beyond general information, in relation to the Residential Tenancies Act, but they will deal with dispute resolution in mediation, getting both parties to communicate with each other to find a common resolve and adjudication where both parties tell their side of the story in a courtroom like setting and a decision is made by the RTB on the best plan of action.

Making a complaint like this really is a civil matter but if the situation takes a turn for the worse, that is and the neighbour’s behaviour causes fear, danger, injury or loss, in other words anti-social behaviour then is it time to phone the Gardaí.

Heather and Phil could also bring a complaint to the District Court.

By and large, the general public does not realised that people with learning disabilities also need to feel useful and valued.

They want to have some agency over their own lives rather than rely on services decided solely by other people on their behalf.

EVERYTHING’S COMING UP ROSES! RUNNERS TAKE NEW ROUTE ON FESTIVAL 10K THIS SUNDAY

A record number of participants will take part in this weekends Kerrys Eye Festival 10K run . THe new route will start at Tralee Bay Wetlands It continues towards Dan Spring Road, down to the Ballymullen roundabout and up the River Walk at the back of The Rose Hotel.

Runners will exit the River Walk and head for the Canal and the Lock Gates. At the Lock Gates, runners will head to Lohercannon, Ashgrove, Kerin’s Park, Knockmoyle and down past the Bon Secours to the slip road by Tralee Garda Station.

Runners then turn up to Rock Street and turn right at the traffic lights, onto Maine Street and past the Ashe Hotel exiting on to Ashe Street, down past the courthouse and down to the finish line in Denny Street.Number collections take place on Sat 19th in the Ashe Hotel and the run starts on Sunday morning at 11.30 in Tralee Wetlands .

HELLO MY BEAUTIFUL FRIENDS, I HOPE YOU’RE ALL HAVING AN AMAZING WEEK! As we all know, The Rose of Tralee has began and the town is buzzing! I absolutely love it, always have and always will.

What I want to talk about this week though is counterfeit or ‘fake’ makeup. As it’s the festival, there will be lots of stalls around selling various goods, as there is at any festival. Sometimes these stalls can be selling makeup brushes or products at a quarter of the usual retail price, which you may think ‘great i’m getting a bargain’ - but you’re not.

Counterfeit makeup is very dangerous - it is manufactured in non sanitary conditions and has been reported to contain high levels of bacteria. It can also contain harmful ingredients that is illegal to use in makeup sold in a store that is harmful to your health.

Reactions from using fake makeup products can include acne, psoriasis, serious skin rashes and eye infections. These reactions also take a few days to appear so you may not even think it was the fake product you used.

I know the temptation to buy these products, you think ‘sure what harm can a lipstick/lashes/ makeup brush do’ I was surrounded by them in Thailand, I could have got the most amazing looking fake palettes, lashes and brushes for my kit as a Makeup Artist(apparently that’s what some Artists do). But putting those unknown chemicals and bacteria near my face, or a clients’ is a huge no no for me!

You don’t have to spend 50 euro on a Chanel foundation if that’s out of your budget, but rather than buying a fake for a tenner, get a pharmacy dupe. Brands like L’Oreal, Revlon, Rimmel, Floramar, Note Cosmetics and more do really high quality products for low prices with ingredients that won’t harm you.

So next time you’re at a stall that sells makeup - if it’s being sold at a stall it’s not real.

Remember the points I made today, it’s not worth it, it harms your skin, it’s not

sanitary, WALK AWAY! That’s what I had to tell myself over and over again in Thailand. Yes it’s annoying that they’re selling Mac lipstick for 5 euro, but it’s not real, not good for you and will harm your skin!

FITNESS!

HELLO MY STRONG STRONG FRIENDS! I HOPE YOU’RE ALL HAVING A FANTASTIC WEEK! This week i’ve been getting back into the swing of things fitness wise, not putting too much pressure or being too strict but just easing myself back into it. After 3 weeks of not training, lots of alcohol and food I need it.

I got back into the gym, because I’m now back in Tralee I’ll be training in my favourite, The Brandon Hotel Gym. I trained legs Friday and had the most insane DOMS for at least 3 days, it was rough.

Food wise I have been making better choices, which wouldn’t be hard but still. I’ve been absolutely living for pancakes since I’ve came home - don’t ask why. So I thought I’d share my fool proof recipie for both training and non training days.

TRAINING DAY PANCAKES: serves one.

• 40g oats • 1 egg • 50g egg whites • Vanilla extract • Almond milk - 1 or 2 tbsp as needed.

Blend the oats into a powder consistency in a nutri bullet or something similar. Add all the other ingredients and mix well. Cook as normal using extra virgin olive oil.

NON TRAINING DAY PANCAKES: • • • •

100g egg whites 1 large egg 20g protein powder 2 tsp chia seeds

Blend all of the ingredients in a blender.

Cook as normal in extra virgin olive oil -

or any oil you prefer.

Of course you can eat the training day pancakes on a non training day too! It all depends on your macros, if you track them. Enjoy & never feel guilty about food!

Just because you are working out and watching what you eat doesn’t mean you can’t have yummy pancakes!

Here are two separate recipes that I like to use, one is higher carb for training days, and the other is higher in fat and protein for non training days, both are delicious! Although I do prefer the training day ones better cause they’re fluffier.

MY FAVOURITE TOPPINGS: Bacon medallions/turkey rashers & myprotein syrup.

Blackberries are in all their glory right now and so easy to find and pick, What better way to spend a lazy afternoon than spending it with the family picking some. Here at Croí restaurant we are using them in an Eton Mess dessert and a sauce for Duck.

So here are two easy ways to enjoy them

BLACKBERRY-ROSE ICE POPS

WITH CITRUS VINGARETTE

INGREDIENTS

9 1/3 tbsp. cane sugar 6 1/2 c. blackberries 1 tbsp. fresh lemon juice 1 tsp. rosewater

baby rocket leaves fresh blackberries crumbled gorgonzola or blue cheese citrus vinaigrette

CITRUS VINAIGRETTE INGREDIENTS:

METHOD Make Simple Syrup: In a small pot over medium-high heat, bring sugar and an equal amount of water to a simmer. Stir until sugar dissolves.

Set aside until cool, about 10 minutes.Meanwhile, purée blackberries in a food processor. Transfer to a jug then stir in simple syrup, lemon juice, and rosewater.Strain mixture through a sieve into a medium bowl, pressing pulp with a ladle. Transfer strained mixture back to jug.Pour mixture into ice-pop molds leaving a little room at the tops. Insert sticks and freeze until solid, about 5 hours. Unmold and serve.

1/3 cup good-quality olive oil 1/4 cup freshly-squeezed orange, lemon, or lime juice (I used blood orange juice) 1 tsp. Sea salt 1/2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper Whisk together all vinagrette ingredients until well-blended. Toss with rocket and blackberries, and then serve topped with crumbled cheese.

MAURICE FROM ‘CASTLE’ FEATURES IN LATEST GUINNESS TV ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN As the 2017 GAA All-Ireland Senior Championships enter the final stages, GUINNESS has launched its latest TV advertising campaign, ‘Behind Every Great Town’ featuring life-long Castlegregory GAA club volunteer Maurice Spillane. The captivating 30’’ film celebrates the everyday GAA volunteers, who willingly give their time in communities across Ireland all year round.

The advertisement, which will go live on digital channels on 10th August and debuts on TV on 13th August across the Island of Ireland, features Maurice Spillane and three other real GAA volunteers from Inishbofin, Co. Galway, Slaughtneil, Co. Derry and Ongar, Dublin 15. Together, they represent the thousands of people throughout the Island of Ireland who find enrichment, enjoyment and a sense of community by immersing themselves in their local GAA club.

Maurice Spillane has been helping as a volunteer with Castlegregory GAA Club for fifty years. He took on the role of Chairman of Castlegregory

GAA Club at the age of 23 and has been helping out ever since. Maurice has also been treasurer, helped to run the GAA Lotto, was senior player registrar and his block-building skills can be seen all over the re-developed Castlegregory GAA grounds, which was reopened in 2003.

Speaking about his passion for the GAA, Maurice said; “The GAA was a social outlet for me as a young adult. I was quite shy growing up and the GAA helped me in a way to get the shyness out of me. I remember it was 1970, I was 23 years of age and I was asked to go to a GAA meeting in the old Pearse Memorial Hall in Castlegregory village. Things were bad with emigration at the time. It was the AGM and there were only five or six people at it. Somebody said to me, ‘Maurice, will you do chairman?’. Up to then, I had never been involved in any type of administration, but I said ‘OK’ and I’ve been knee deep it the club ever since.”

field with his ride-on mower, a job he has done on many occasions through the years.

The viewer is then transported to Galway’s Inishbofin, where Islander, Simon Murray, and those before him have a dedication and conviction to succeed, having seen the people leave their neighbouring island Inishark in 1960. Although the island does not have a club team that regularly plays on the island, their GAA pitch is a physical symbol of their identity.

Eddie Cunningham from The Indo’s Motoring section tackles the ‘charging for air ‘ debate ...

“We’ve had people on - again - complaining about having to pay €1 to put air in, or check, their tyres. For some reason their criticisms have been aimed at Topaz outlets. Motorists say it is ridiculous to be charged for something that was always free. It is also claimed that resentment for having to pay is putting them off checking their tyres. However, this isn’t a new phenomenon; some outlets have been charging for a long time. But in view of the fact that Topaz was picked out, I asked them to explain. There are always two sides to a story so I’ll leave you to make up your own mind on what they had to say: “As part of Topaz’s ongoing commitment to offering customers the best possible experience at Topaz stations, we are investing in a new state-of-theart car valeting area across our network which includes vacuum, fragrance and compressed air. For a usage charge of €1, customers can use any of these services for five minutes and it is possible to switch between services at any time during the process.”

MORNING AFTER DRINK TEST: WHY YOU MAY STILL BE OVER THE LIMIT

Most of the discussion on drink driving in recent months has centred around the new Road Traffic Bill. It aims to introduce a mandatory disqualification for those detected with alcohol levels of between 50mg and 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood. But one issue that has come up frequently during this discussion is drink driving the morning after.

Some expressed concerns about the effect the new law would have on those caught the morning after. Some questioned the unfairness of such Garda tactics.

They said people were doing the right thing by leaving the keys at home the night before, so it was unfair to then get breathalysed the next day on the way to work at 7.30am, when they only have a small amount of alcohol in their system?

And this is the issue. You may still be over the limit without realising it.

If you have been on a heavy drinking session and got to bed in the early hours, you may not be safe to drive until lunchtime the next day.If you didn’t get a good night’s sleep, this will magnify the impairment effects of even small amounts of alcohol in your system, meaning regardless of whether you are under the limit or not, you are simply unfit to drive. The bottom line is that drink driving is drink driving no matter what time of the day or week it is.

The gardai are constantly reminding every driver that drink driving will continue to be targeted by them on a 24/7 basis, including the morning after.

CHINESE FIRM ALIBABA TO OPEN A ‘CAR VENDING MACHINE’ NEXT YEAR

Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba is to open its own car “vending machine” next year in a bid to make buying a car “as easy as buying a can of Coke”.

The launch follows used car seller Autobahn Motors’ opening of its futuristic 15-storey showroom in Singapore last year, which was billed as the “world’s largest luxury car vending machine”.

Autobahn’s vending machine displays vehicles in 60 slots, with customers on the ground floor able to choose from a touchscreen display the car they wish to see.The car arrives within two minutes thanks to an advanced system that manages vehicle retrieval.According to the Financial Times, Alibaba will follow in Autobahn’s footsteps with the launch of its own car vending machine. It will allow buyers to browse cars on their smartphones and press the buy button, which then releases the car from a vertical display tower.

US company Carvana also uses vending machine-like towers to sell used cars.

In March, it opened an eight-floor structure that holds up to 30 cars in San Antonio, Texas.

Yu Wei, general manager of the automotive division on Alibaba’s e-commerce platform, told Alibaba’s news service that the era of online car shopping had arrived and the new automotive retail model “will make buying cars as easy as buying a can of Coke”.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS: SPRINGBOARD Question I’ve been at home caring for my children for a number of years. I want to return to work. Can I get help to develop my skills so that I am more employable?

Answer Springboard provides places on courses from certificate, to degree, to post-graduate level – Levels 6 to 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications. There are many different courses available that lead to qualifications in areas where there are employment opportunities. Most of the courses last for one year or less.

If you are a homemaker with a previous history of employment you don’t have to be getting a social welfare payment to qualify for Springboard.

To qualify, you must have been a homemaker for a minimum of 12 months prior to your Springboard application and be ordinarily resident in the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland for at least three of the five years before your entry to Springboard.

You must also provide supporting documentation to show you meet these requirements. You can do this by signing a declaration before a Commissioner for Oaths, attesting to your status. Further information about this is available on springboardcourses.ie.

You do not have to pay course fees or charges while you are unemployed.

FAI NATIONAl P.R.O. OF THE YEAR CYCLING OFFICER’S REMIT SHOULD INCLUDE CLUBS: It is not often we start this column with politics but this week Councillor Michael Cahill’s motion to Kerry County Council to employ a Cycling Officer is an interesting one. The Fianna Fail County Councillor said that the number of people cycling in the county has increased dramatically in recent years with Kerry hosting some of the biggest cycling events in the country including the Ring of Kerry.

He said that this is golden opportunity for the county to become hugely important in cycling terms and that the Cycling Officer would work on projects like Cycling Lanes, Road Re-Design and the prioritising of ‘Health and Safety’ on the counties roads.

The reply he got from the Council says that as part of National Bike Week, through Kerry Recreation & Sports Partnership a number of cycling initiatives are coordinated countywide. An example of these initiatives includes the Pedal in the Parks, which are rolled out in conjunction with local cycling clubs and organisations during the week.

This year the inaugural Cycle the Canal in Tralee took place.

In addition during the academic year, the Kerry’s Safer Cycling programme is rolled out to a number of primary schools countywide. This programme is a collaborative initiative to help primary school children of all abilities to learn how to cycle in a safe and appropriate manner on our roads. In the past year a total of 14 schools representative to 373 students took part in this programme. Since the programme inception a total of 1464 students have participated in this programme.

The Council does not have any plans currently for the introduction of bike stations in the County.

This sector of the leisure tourism market is well catered for by businesses that are providing private bike rental services.

In this Municipal District, the Council is advancing a number of schemes where dedicated cycle facilities are being provided including, for example, the N86 Dingle to Annascaul & Gortbreagoge to Camp scheme

which is currently at construction stage.

All of this from both sides is worthwhile and important but it was interesting that there was no mention of the huge increase in the sporting side of cycling. Doing PR for the County Road Race League and Time Trial League I see first-hand the huge numbers taking part with the underage sections particularly strong. Also if you read the cycling columns in the papers or on-line you will see the successes Kerry is having from u12’s to seniors.

And of course at a higher level we have the Annual Ras Mumhan and have had number stages starts and ends of the Ras plus South Kerry has hosted the Ras na mBan for a couple of years.

For these riders to be in the shape to compete they must all train and all the clubs in Kerry also run ‘fun’ spins for those who want to take part at a rather less hectic pace!

Credit must go to all the cycling clubs who put safety as a paramount feature in all activities they take on. The clubs are fortunate that there are so many in the sport who are willing to volunteer as marshals for events.

Cycling clubs now often ask members to miss one round of a series to marshal that round thereby spreading the load evenly.

Of course accidents do happen and the county has had its fair share of tragedies with cyclists losing their lives and at this point we take a minute to remember them and their families and friends.

If the county had a Cycling Officer part of their duty should be to work with the organisers of these events and the clubs to give them whatever resources are necessary to make sure their events stay as safe as possible. Education of riders and club committees could also be part of their remit.

And to finance a Cycling Officer for the county why not have Cycling Ireland and the Local Authority to joint fund the position. We could be a template for other counties to follow.

PITCH AND PUTT: Last weekend the Castleisland Pitch & Putt Club played host to the Munster Inter County Championships on Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday morning the Kerry Junior Gents team got the championships started. The team consisting of Tralee players David Hobbert, Pa Byrne, Tommy Higgins and Padraig Hobbart along with Castleisland’s Sean Hickey and Listowel’s Killian O’Gorman got off to a flyer in the scotch foursomes.

They lead by four shots on thirteen under par from Cork and Tipperary.

In the singles helped by Killian and Sean’s four under par scores they came home two shots clear of Cork to win the Munster Junior Gents Inter County.

The Kerry Junior Ladies team were next and the pairings of Tralee’s Charlotte Blake and Lisa O’Connor along with Deerpark’s sister’s Eileen Switzer and Sheila O’Donoghue brought home a score of sixty points level with the Cork team and five points behind eventual winners Tipperary.

On Sunday morning the Kerry U16 team got things underway against Cork and after the opening scotch foursomes Kerry trailed by seven shots behind Cork’s fourteen under par total but a spirited singles display by Cillian Courtney, Robbie Harnett, Erin Moloney, Darragh O’Callaghan, Adam Kelly and Jack McCarthy leveled matters and a three hole play-off ensued for each member of both teams, the Kerry lads prevailed in the end by a four stroke win.

Then it was the turn of the Kerry Intermediate Gents team who after the initial scotch foursomes lay in third on seventeen under ten shots behind Cork and one behind Limerick. In the singles Cork pushed on and the Tipperary over took the Kerry and Limerick teams in the end the Kerry team finished third. The team consisted of Tralee’s Alan Hobbart, Castleisland duo John Clifton and John Fitzgerald, Derrpark’s James Fleming and Listowel pair Chris Curran and Richard Bunyan.

Now it was the turn of the Kerry Senior Gents team, hopes were high because the last time Castleisland hosted this event

back in 2010 Kerry won by two shots from Cork. Now Cork were going for their seventh Munster title in a row. Kerry got off to a flyer in the scotch foursomes posting a twenty-nine total to lead with Limerick on the same score two ahead of Cork. In the singles Limerick posted the early total of seventy-two under which would have won the title back in 2010 by two shots but things were changing on the course and the Cork started to score heavily in the closing six holes to post an overall total of eighty under to win by eight from Limerick and left the Kerry team third on sixty-five under par.

The weekend was full of debuts for several players across all grades and some marvellous scores by some in this event and with the Kerry U16 and Junior Gent team prevailing the future is bright in the pitch and putt world.

GOLF: Tralee win the Munster Barton Shield – In the competition Cork were the first opponents for Tralee and the home side made no mistake and saw of the Rebel golfers – playing without the sight of a Confederate flag!. Tralee face Castletroy in the final and it proved to be another convincing win for the Barrow based golfers. Darren O’Sullivan, Eoghan O’Donnell, Graham Spring, Fergal O’Sullivan and Ger Deegan were the winning golf team.

Staying in Tralee and in the 9 hole competition Richard Rafferty and Michael Maunsell were the winners from David Spring and Niall Sheehy. Paddy O’Donoghue and Derek O’Brien were in third place. In the Ladies section in the Mounthawk Stroke medal competition Gorretti O’Connor was the winner from Noran Sheehan.

On Sunday Laura Rafferty took the win from Maureen Tiplady.

FIRST OUTING FOR THE U15’S IN 12 MONTH SOCCER SEASON! Soccer is a twelve month game now with different sections playing at different stages of the year.

While the Kerry District League season is coming to an end – the Domino’s Pizza final between Mitchel’s Avenue and QPR has gone to a replay this weekend – the League of Ireland campaign for the u15’s is just beginning.

Last night (Thursday August 17th) they will have played Cork City in Bishopstown while their first home game is on Monday August 28th at 7pm versus Wexford at Mounthawk Park so hopefully we will see a big crowd to cheer on the boys.

Staying with the League of Ireland the Kerry u17’s brought home a well-deserved point from their game at Cabinteely in Dublin. It was one of those exciting 0-0 draws with Kerry going closest when Dillon Robinson did everything right only for the ball to take a last minute bobble and hit the foot of the post. The home side were awarded a last minute penalty but Robert Osbourne made a great save in the Kerry goal to secure the point.

TALKING SPORT WITH THE TRALEE ADVERTISER Irish Referees Society who are celebrating 40th of whistling this year. They have announced a celebration Gala Dinner at the Rose Hotel on September 8th and also have the honour of hosting a National Council Meeting that weekend that will be attended by the National President of the Soccer Referees Society and members of the FAI. It is an important anniversary to celebrate not just for those still involved but also those who did the job over the years. Kerry soccer has always had a very high standard of referees which all those who play and played that game were very appreciative of.

For anyone thinking of becoming a referee there will be a beginners course run jointly by the Kerry District League and the Limerick Desmond League and is open to men and women over 16. PRIZES GALORE AT THE PARK: St Brendan’s Park inaugural fun run over 5k was a huge success with over 170 taking part. The running side of the event was organised by Randall Wharton and Park Secretary Colm McLoughlin said that there was a huge club effort to ensure the event was a success. “It was a big undertaking and all the sponsors and club volunteers stepped up to the mark.

We also had great cooperation from the Gardai, our first aid crews and Director of Football Padraig McCannon and the committee put in a huge effort to ensure the whole day went well.”

At the end of the 5K Derek Griffin took the win from Arthur Fitzgerald and Joe Renoylds. Sean McGrath won the u16 race with Sarah Abdulla the fastest u16 Girl. From the Academy Eoin McGivern was the winner.

The Park also presented their underage Players of the Year Awards and all the details of the winners are on their Facebook page.

KERRY CAUGHT SHORT AT THE OVAL: North Kerry hosted UCC at Oyster Oval. UCC batted first and cautiously worked their way past 50 with no wickets lost. It took a superb catch from Michael Pickett who made a great job of wicketkeeper to break the shackles.

UCC paced their innings very well and got to 175. North Kerrys most successful bowlers were Eddie Garczynski (2 for 28) and Jonathan Boulding (1 for 28).

In reply North Kerry never kept up with the required run rate and put themselves under pressure Boulding (22), Wyer (39 not out),Garczynski(16) had a dash but at 141 they ended up well short.

Kerry’s semi-final against Limerick in the Munster Senior Cup was rescheduled as a T20 game and they put up a good score of 162.

Kerry thought they had Limerick out for 151 but the senior Umpire

pointed out that Kerry were penalised 12 runs for slow play when bowling and Limerick took the win. Limerick were well beaten

by Cork in the Cup final.

TIME TRIAL TITLE FOR RICHARD BY 2 SECONDS! After taking their 4 best results over the 6 Time Trial League rounds Sliabh Luachra’s Richard Cleverley and George Doyle of Tralee Manor West iBike could not be separated.

They both won 3 rounds and had one second place as they ended the League on 46 points.

After count back on times set Cleverley was the fastest by just 2 seconds with his 27.05.06 the quickest of the 2 over the 6 weeks.

The rest of the top 5 places were filled by Sliabh Luachra’s Sean Dineen in 3rd followed by Tralee Manor West riders Tom Gentleman and Ciaran Slattery in 4th and 5th.

Suzanne O’Sullivan was the top lady in the League with Eoin Moloney the top u16 who also raced over the 20km.

The Galvin Brothers Shane and Patrick are having a summer to remember and won the u12’s and u14’s sections respectively.

The final Time Trial event of the season will be the Kerry County TT Championships on August 31st with the League prizes also been given out following racing that night.

ST BRENDAN’S / OAKPARK COMMUNITY GAMES: All roads lead to the national finals this weekend, it promises to be a super weekend of track and field events and who knows the next Thomas Barr or Ciara Mageean might be discovered.

On behalf of the committee and the St.Brendan’s/Oakpark community games area we extend our best wishes to Mervyn Shalemba who runs in the U16 100m and Seán Quilter who goes in the U16 200m.

Both athletes, together with Niall Fitzmaurice, Basit Oyebanji and Jordan Kissane should be a force to be reckoned with in the U16 4 x 100m relay.

NOT THE LIGHTHOUSE SWIM BUT STILL A COUNTING SWIM: Round 6 of the Tralee Bay Swimming Club took place in testing conditions – a regular factor this summer unfortunately. And while it was too rough for it to be the Lighthouse swim it was still a count swim in the overall World Series.

Maeve Ryan was the fastest swimmer on the night with the Group winners being Cathy Fisher, Dominic Rollo-Walker and Paudie McQuinn.

MAYO IN THE WAY: The game that no one wants to lose is a semi-final and that will add to the spice of the latest Kerry versus Mayo encounter

this Sunday. Mayo have taken the scenic route to this stage while Kerry’s has been much more straight forward.

The good news for Kerry is that they are injury free for the game and while it is expected to be a tight encounter I believe if Kerry play to their ability they will come through.

The Kerry minor success over the last three years has been amazing and I think that this side will have the measure of Cavan. Forecasting how minor teams perform on the day is always tricky but this side has the winning mentality starting in their underage days and they will hopefully reach another decider.

Last weekend Kerry’s u17’s,Junior camogie and minor B hurlers went down but there were great wins by the u21 B hurlers and the Kerry Ladies who have progressed to their TG4 All Ireland semi-final.

PARNELL’S ON THE ROAD: Parnells under 8 and under 9 players and parents enjoyed a great day out in Limerick and the players will have learned lots for their games.

The Abbeydorney/Parnells Minors played a useful challenge match away to Milford in North Cork Saturday evening. Good match practice for some of the younger players, with a few older lads not available.

Parnells needs 12 volunteers (over 16 years of age) for the Rose of Tralee ‘It’s a knockout’ Competition in the town park, Sunday the 20th of August at 3.30 pm. Please text 085135566 if you/ your child/ friend want to take part in this fun event. Please note this event is on the same time as the Kerry game.

The u15 Girls head to Cork to take part in their Avondhu Camogie League game. Some drivers are still needed so please contact any club committee members if you can oblige.

YOUNG STACKS STORIES: The young players are taking a break for the Kerry game and the Festival and are back next Thursday from 5.45pm.

The u12 A’s and B’s defeated Ardfert in their Central League games. The u13’s are at home to Ballymac on Thursday in the Town League with the Oaklands Daybreak Rose Cup next weekend.

The u14’s defeated John Mitchels while the u16’s drew with Dr Crokes in the Lee Strand County League.

The Tralee u16 team been drawn against Shannon Rangers in the ¼ final of the County Divisional Championship.

The club was delighted to welcome Bishop Ray Brown and a number of priests who blessed the Nuns Field.

CAMOGIE NEWS: The Junior team bowed out of the Championship going down to Dublin. The girls put in a good performance but were edged out in the end. The girls and the management and back room staff did the county proud in their run to the semi-final.

The Cillard u10 camogie side had an enjoyable 4 games against Friday 18th August 2017

Mungret, Thomas Davis and Abbeyside as well as Killarney.

Cillard will host an u8 and u10 blitz at Kilmoyley on Saturday August 19th.

BALLYHEIGUE U16’S MISS DOUBLE: Having secured the u16 League title the Ballyheigue hurlers were looking to secure a double when they took on Crotta O’Neills in the County Championship Final. They were missing a few players and while they gave it their all it was Crotta that took the win 3-12 to 0-07.

ST PAT’S NEWS: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 14,19,20 and 23. The next jackpot will be e3,400.

The u12 girls will be competing in Division 2 of the Town League with their games starting next week.

The u12 mixed are playing Laune Rangers C this week.

The u13’s are in the Tralee Town Board League and are in Division 2. They play their first game at home to Na Gaeil next Thursday while the u14’s are in Town League action against Austin Stacks B. The 16’s were beaten in the semi- final of the Division 6 County League by Fossa 2-12 to 3-03.

The senior team resume their County League campaign this Friday evening at 7.30pm when they play away to Beaufort. All support will be most welcome for the lads in this very important match.

KERINS O’RAHILLY’S NEWS: The Seniors defeated St Mary’s 2-16 to 2-12 in the County League.All the team played their part in securing this win but special mention to Con Barrett, Tom Hoare, John Ferguson and Danny O’Sullivan who were all outstanding on the night.

The Juniors are in the Coiste Tra Li League semi- final this Friday night when they take on Stacks at 7.30pm. The Minors went down to Laune Rangers in the Central League by 3 points, 2-17 to 2-14 with their next game against Dingle on Monday August 21st.

The Junior Blues are in the Rose Cup while the Academy players put in a great session and well done to all who were named Players of the Week. They have the weekend off to cheer on Kerry.

The u12 and u16 boys enjoyed wins over John Mitchels and Listowel Emmets while the girls teams are training and playing in their various competitions.

The Minor Ladies had a challenge match against Na Gaeil and will take on Dingle in the coming weeks.

Lotto: There was no winner of the Lotto from the numbers drawn 6,17, 25 and 28. The next jackpot will be e8,800.
