COURSE SUMMARY:

This intensive training is an in-depth, practical training designed to provide clinic assistants with the essential skills required for supporting patient care and clinic operations. Covering five modules, this training program includes patient communication, medication handling, equipment usage, infection control, vaccination protocols and basic first aid. Through hands-on exercises and interactive discussions, participants will gain the knowledge and practical skills needed to deliver high-quality patient care effectively.

MODULE 1: CLINIC BASICS AND PATIENT COMMUNICATION

Kemahiran Komunikasi dan Pengurusan Pesakit (CEKAP)

This module covers the basics of patient communication and clinic workflow, emphasising patient registration, medication disbursement and wound dressing with a focus on clear communication and patient care.

MODULE 2: MEDICATION MANAGEMENT AND PHARMACEUTICALS

Pengurusan Ubat dan Farmaseutikal (URUS)

This module trains participants in safe medication handling, storage and patient education Basic vaccine management, including side effect monitoring, is also covered.

MODULE 3: EQUIPMENT HANDLING AND INFECTION CONTROL

Pengendalian Peralatan Klinik dan Kawalan Jangkitan (SELIA)

Focused on infection control and safe equipment usage, this module includes hand hygiene, PPE handling, specimen collection and training with essential clinical equipment like ECG machines and nebulizers.

MODULE 4: VACCINATION AND DAILY CLINIC MANAGEMENT

Vaksinasi dan Pengurusan Klinik Harian (LINDUNG)

This module covers vaccine preparation, administration and patient follow-up, along with daily clinic management tasks, including patient records and inventory control.

MODULE 5: BASIC LIFE SUPPORT

Bantuan Kecemasan Asas (CEMAS)

The first aid module provides clinic assistants with essential skills for responding to common injuries, focusing on wound care, burn treatment and managing minor trauma.

CLINIC BASICS AND PATIENT COMMUNICATION CEKAP

Master patient registration, effective counter communication and professional handling of patient complaints. Emphasis on clear communication throughout procedures.

LEVEL 2 TASK:

Individual: Practise counter communication

Group:

Role-play patient interaction scenarios at counter with feedback from the facilitator.

LEVEL 2 TASK:

Individual:

Organise all necessary wound dressing items in a tray and list each item to reinforce understanding of required materials.

Group:

Role-play wound dressing and patient counselling for medication collection and care instructions.

MEDICATION MANAGEMENT AND PHARMACEUTICALS

Properly handle medications, understand dosage forms, optimise clinic workflow, manage patient records

LEVEL 2 TASK:

Individual: Classify common medications by dosage form and purpose. organise in storage (cabinet).

Group:

Practise documenting medication in a patient file and explaining dosage and administration to a “patient.”

Individual: Perform handwashing using KKM guidelines.

Group: Demonstrate proper donning and doffing of PPE.

Practice specimen collection for blood, urine and sputum, ensuring correct labelling and handling of each sample.

Identifying correct containers for blood, urine and sputum samples. Do proper labelling and handling for each type.

Familiarise usage with supervision for ECG, Nebulizer, Oxygen

EQUIPMENT HANDLING

LEVEL 1 TASK:

Individual:

Measure BP, PR and RR on participants using provided equipment. Rotate stations to practise on different “patients” and log readings.

ADVANCED EQUIPMENT HANDLING

LEVEL 3 TASK:

1 Course Skill Levels

Level 1 (Basic Skills):

Fundamental tasks like hand hygiene, PPE usage, patient registration and vital signs measurement. Essential for daily clinic operations.

Hand Hygiene: Practice handwashing using WHO protocol

Vital Signs Measurement: Measure blood pressure (BP), pulse rate (PR) and respiratory rate (RR) on participants.

PPE Usage: Demonstrate proper donning and doffing of PPE

Level 2 (Intermediate Skills):

Skills requiring more interaction, such as patient counselling, medication disbursement and wound dressing. Focus on communication and care protocols.

Patient Registration: Practise registering a patient in a simulated system.

Medication Collection & Disbursement: Practise collecting, organising and disbursing mock medications with clear patient communication.

Vaccination Handling and Administration: Learn vaccine storage, preparation, basic injection techniques and side effect monitoring.

Level 3 (Advanced Skills):

Complex tasks under supervision, like administering injections, using ECGs and collecting specimens. Involves technical knowledge and precision.

Injection Techniques: Practise administering IM (intramuscular) and IV (intravenous) injections and IV bolus under supervision.

IV Drip Setup: Learn IV drip setup and saline (NS) administration.

Specimen Collection: Collect blood, urine and sputum samples with proper labelling and handling.

Nebulizer and ECG Use: Operate a nebulizer and practice ECG setup and monitoring.

Basic Life Support: Overview of basic CPR and AED usage.

Lab Familiarisation: Introduction to lab equipment and sample containers, such as blood and urine bottles.

Individual: Prepare and administer mock vaccine injections (IM) on training dummies, using correct dosage technique.

Group: Practise creating and updating vaccine records, monitor and explain common side effects and practice follow-up scheduling.

Apply basic first aid techniques for cuts, burns, nosebleeds, fractures, trauma and choking incidents

BASIC LIFE SUPPORT

Lecture:

Instructor-led overview of basic first aid practices for managing minor injuries and preventing infection.

LEVEL 2 TASK:

Group Task:

Demonstrate and practise basic wound care, burn treatment and nosebleed management in groups.

Each group performs one of the three first aid tasks and presents their approach to peers for feedback and discussion.
