DSO & Cyber Security East of England Welcome to the East of England DSO & Cyber security directory.

The UK is a world leader in creating advanced innovative solutions and products to satisfy the global need for defence and security.

The East, already a leading player in technology sectors such as life science, pharmaceutical and biotech, is becoming a key region for defence and cyber start-ups and already has some of the defence sectors largest companies located here.

It is my pleasure to be involved with supporting companies in the East of England region and my association with the region goes back a long way when I spent a few years working at Sizewell B Nuclear Power Station as a project engineer.

I have a particular interest in defence and security having served in the Royal Air Force and before taking up my current role I spent 14 years working in Cyber Security in the UK, Middle East & Asia.

The East of England has a long tradition of great educational establishments but its military association particularly with the RAF and USAF was, and still is, strategically important to the future security of the UK and is home to the F35 Lightning Fighter aircraft which is creating £Billions in benefits for the region.

All the data we collect (such as date/time/location, SOS alerts, geofence breaches, gunfire reports) is 256-bit encrypted both ways for live communication with our Angel Web Servers. So an Angel monitoring service can operate either from a traditional callcentre and/or via mobile users on the ground, at the same time.

Customers may choose secure 3ARC Angel Web Servers on the Internet backbone, or use their own servers running Microsoft SQL (we can also help develop other bespoke MS software applications).

Current Applications 3ARC customers include medical, military and other security providers.

Existing products include Offender Trackers, GunFire detectors and non-contact Drug Analysers …plus smartphone apps.

For example, the 3ARC GunFire tracking system features a small device that fits upon the standard

accessory rail of any gun. This provides instant reporting of not only the gun location (time/date and breaches), but also holstering/ unholstering or SOS alerts and gun firing. The system can also collect gun kinetics and bullet acoustics data for forensic analysis, with gunfight reconstructions.

The same Angel platform can also display other assets (e.g. support teams and ambulances) and assist incident management, showing evolving relationships in real time.

A built-in IP telephony exchange allows concurrent handling of data and voice calls, with many-to-many conversions between voice and data without opening any other applications (especially handy on a smartphone).

It is the ability to retrieve dust shoe marks from floors, carpets, upholstery where photography and conventional adhesive lifting film would be ineffective.

The benefits of footwear lifting at crime scenes is fast becoming identified as the way forward especially as many criminals today are ‘forensic aware’ and take precautions not to leave fingerprints or DNA at the scene. However they must leave footprints which is where the CSI Pathfinder has proved most invaluable.

The problem with ESL machines currently on the market is that they are bulky, costly, lack power when needed and often do not work because the connecting probes or leads have been damaged by the

previous user. They can also be very dangerous to the operator because of the high voltage that is put out.

The Pathfinder eliminates all these problems as it is small, lightweight, runs from a single PP3 battery available anywhere and does not use probes or leads. It also has built in safety features inasmuch that should the operator accidently receive a shock it will not do any damage to him/her even if they have a heart pacemaker. This makes this unit the safest ESL machine on the market today.

M-VAC DNA Collection System The M-Vac DNA Collection System is a wet-vacuum based forensic DNA collection device that is helping investigators solve more crime.

It has been used on dozens of cases and has produced DNA profiles numerous times when traditional methods such as swabbing and cutting have failed to produce viable results.

It is ideal for touch DNA scenarios and can capture many times more DNA material than other methods from porous surfaces like clothing or other fabrics as well as rough surfaces such as rock, brick or concrete.

Luminaire Conversions As we are ISO 9001:2008 audited, we are able to convert existing lighting products to emergency operation use and re-CE mark it afterwards. We can convert any light fitting – fluorescent, tungsten and LED – whatever the light source. If products are too small to enable internal fitting of the conversion components we can fit via a remote box. Conversion of mains fittings for emergency lighting operation is a fast and efficient service that is undertaken in a thorough and systematic manner. Upon delivery of the product it is inspected for damage prior to any work being carried out. The product is then converted by specialists using our high-quality, tried and tested components. The finished fitting is then thoroughly tested, including for heat issues, before being repacked.

Testing • End of line testing is undertaken on every single product that we manufacture. This involves electric-strength tests and function tests. Earth continuity tests are also undertaken on class 1 luminaires. These tests ensure each product is functioning properly and safely.

• EMC testing takes place to ensure that EMC performance complies with EMC directives.

This applies to both standard and converted products. It is particularly relevant when converting from mains to emergency operation.

• Temperature testing is undertaken to ensure that both existing gear and conversion gear, including batteries, do not exceed maximum operating temperatures. Excessive temperatures will reduce the working life of the components.

This applies to emergency control gear, emergency luminaires and re-engineered luminaires.
