The reasons behind those individual votes are as varied as the voters themselves. But every one of our Best of Tracy winners has one thing in common, from the mom-and-pop shops, to the über-volunteers, to the big-box superstores: They’ve all found a way to make themselves an integral part of our community that our readers wouldn’t want to live without. And that’s about the greatest honor we can imagine. So, congratulations to this year’s Best of Tracy victors, and especially to the Best of the Best. You’re what helps make Tracy the place it is — a place worth calling home. — Tracy Press

There is one name that is synonymous with volunteering in Tracy, and that’s Gene Birk, the founder of Brighter Christmas. Priding himself on the creation of an outstanding team of hundreds of volunteers, who work hard each year to make the holidays just a little bit happier for underprivileged children and their families, Birk has handed the Brighter Christmas torch over to Steve Abercrombie. Birk recommends that everyone volunteer at least once in their life. “We will use more than 300 volunteers at Brighter Christmas this year,” he said. “I know Steve will be happy to put you to work. I became an Edward Jones financial advisor because I wanted to be part of a firm that truly puts its clients’ needs first. I believe our long-term investment philosophy, conveniently located offices and personal, face-to-face approach show our commitment to helping the people n the communities we serve every single day. On behalf of Edward Jones and my branch office, it gives me great pride to have been named Best of Tracy 2011 by The Good People of Tracy. This recognition wouldn’t have been possible without your support, and for that I’m grateful. John F. Dyer, AAMS® Financial Advisor www.edwardjones.com
