JACKSON HOLE WYOMING
Jackson Hole’s breathtaking natural beauty, diverse ecosystems, and abundant wildlife are so extraordinary that the area has been designated a “World Heritage Site” by the United Nations and the U.S. Department of Interior, highlighting its global significance. Nestled within 2.7 million acres of protected land, Jackson Hole boasts stunning mountain ranges, pristine wilderness areas, wildlife refuges, national parks, national forests, glacial lakes, meadows bursting with wildflowers, and wild rivers like the Snake River.
The majestic Grand Teton Mountain Range rises prominently to the north and west, while the Gros Ventre Mountains frame the valley to the east. Serving as the gateway to both Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, Jackson Hole offers unparalleled access to some of the most spectacular natural landscapes in the world.
RECREATION
Jackson Hole is a premier year-round recreation destination, renowned for its endless opportunities, including downhill and crosscountry skiing, world-class fly fishing, hiking, mountain biking, climbing, horseback riding, big game hunting, snowmobiling, hot air ballooning, whitewater and scenic rafting, boating, and golfing on five championship golf courses. Whether you prefer guided or self-guided adventures, the Tetons offer an abundance of activities that ensure you’ll never run out of things to do.
WINTER
WINTER RECREATION
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is renowned for its abundant snowfall, lengthy ski runs, expansive vertical terrain, and smaller crowds, resulting in shorter lift lines compared to most premier ski resorts. The season typically runs from Thanksgiving Day to the second weekend in April.
As the only ski resort in the town of Jackson, Snow King— affectionately known as “the Town Hill”—is a perfect spot for beginner skiers and boarders. The brand-new gondola offers a bird’s-eye view over the town, making it a great option for a scenic ride as well.
Embark on a guided snowmobile tour into the Wyoming wilderness. Head south towards Hoback and ride out to Granite Hot Springs for a warm soak as the snow falls around you, or venture up to Togwotee Pass for the thrills of backcountry riding.
The iconic Grand Teton National Park provides unparalleled access to snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and backcountry skiing and snowboarding. A professional guide can highlight special features and ensure a safe trip in the backcountry.
SPRING
SPRING RECREATION
Biking or walking in Grand Teton National Park, once the snow has melted and before the interior road opens to motorized vehicles, offers a fantastic way to experience the grandeur of the Tetons without traffic. An added bonus is that pets are allowed, but must stay on a leash! The park officially opens on May 1st, after which dogs are not permitted.
Hot air balloon tours offer an unparalleled way to see the valley from above. With breathtaking views of the Teton Range and the Gros Ventre Wilderness, you’ll be awestruck in every direction. Tours begin in mid-May.
As the snow melts, explore the back roads of Jackson with a side-byside or ATV. These roads can be muddy and challenging to navigate with a car, making renting one of these specialized vehicles a fun and adventurous way to get out and about.
With minimal light pollution, stargazing in the valley is a breathtaking experience. Whether you step out into your backyard or venture to the National Park with an expert, the views of the night sky will leave you in awe.
SUMMER
SUMMER RECREATION
Floating down the Snake River, whether on a scenic or whitewater section, is one of the most enjoyable activities on a hot summer’s day. The Hoback Canyon is teeming with wildlife, and being on the river offers a front-row seat to all the action. In the National Park, floating from Deadman’s Bar to Moose Landing provides amazing views of the Tetons and plenty of wildlife sightings as well.
The valley offers endless mountain biking opportunities. Jackson Hole Mountain Resort provides an official bike park experience, Teton Pass offers adrenaline-pumping downhill trails, and Cache Creek provides in-town access for cross-country pedaling.
Experience world-class fishing on the valley’s many rivers, including the Snake River, which is home to the revered native Snake River spotted cutthroat trout. Hire a guide and drift the waters for the best fishing and incredible views.
Enjoy a round of golf on one of the five championship golf courses in Jackson Hole, or venture over the pass to nearby Teton Valley, Idaho, where five more courses await. While some golf courses are limited to members only, others, like Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis, are open to the public for play.
FALL RECREATION
Put on your sneakers or hop on your bike and make your way to Emily Stevenson Park in Wilson for a leisurely and beautiful stroll or ride along the Snake River. The impeccably maintained levee is an ideal spot to get some exercise and enjoy some of the best views of the Tetons in the valley. This dog-friendly path is a local favorite!
Astoria Hot Springs, situated along the banks of the Snake River, offer a relaxing and enjoyable experience for all. As temperatures begin to drop in October and November, it’s a great time to fully appreciate the natural warmth of the hot springs.
Embark on guided horseback riding trips for a wonderful immersion in the fall foliage—riding through an aspen grove is an experience like no other. Horseback riding can take you to new corners of the valley that may not have been accessible by foot, allowing you to fully experience the surrounding wonder of Jackson Hole.
Jackson and the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem offer tremendous opportunities for wildlife viewing. This time of year, bears are out and about, elk enter their rut, moose are shedding their paddles, and bison return to the valley floor for winter.
